Un salto triplo per l'ex attaccante, che ritroverebbe un gruppo che conosce bene, da cui è rispettato, e di cui ha fatto parte fino all'estate 2009. Un azzardo, forse, data la completa inesperienza ad allenare a certi livelli. E, per questo, non più di un'ipotesi, anche se già vagliata dai vertici del club. Un'ipotesi che nessuno spera di dover percorrere. Sempre che le prossime settimane non lo rendano inevitabile.

Ranieri's been awful this season - confused and confusing. The team lacks an identity, a style of play. I think he's been trying to live up to his own caricature.

For me, it's not a question of feeling sorry for Simone et al. The culture within the club is clearly not good - lacking leadership of one kind and another, things are evidently a bit fragmented and not everyone's pulling in the same direction. From my experience, that often happens at sports clubs and has a huge impact on how a side performs. It's almost impossible to pin down, but when the culture is right there's enthusiasm and team spirit and it makes the difference at training, when fighting niggling injuries, when you need to pull a rabbit from the hat on match-day. As far as I see it, Ranieri has been terrible this year. He's not been clear in terms of tactics and style of play. He's shown no consistency in his handling of key selection questions (Totti, Menez, Vucinic). He's shown no consistency in formations. The team lacks an identity and the players lack a sense of how they're supposed to be playing week after week and of their own position within the set up. And then, of course, there's also quite clearly a massive authority vacuum above and behind Ranieri.

I'm already bored and weary of talking about it. I think I shall be at training on Wednesday rather than perched in front of the game.
