aside from today, i thought Borriello spends an awful lot of time wedged between defenders instead of getting in front of them for crosses. differences were played out in midfield and it seemed like a bad call to start Borriello in today's match. what Shield had listed from the newspapers would've been a good line-up to go forward. i felt that our backline held well thanks to De Rossi playing his heart out

Rosi: 'Lavezzi elbowed, then we spat'
Aleandro Rosi explains what happened with Ezequiel Lavezzi. “We spat at each other, but he elbowed me first.”

The two clashed in an off the ball incident during the first half of Napoli’s 2-0 win away to Roma.

“Lavezzi elbowed me when we were off the ball and from there it all escalated,” explained Rosi.

“He got angry and so did I. The referee didn’t spot it, as he was very sneaky to elbow me like that and he knows it.”

Rosi was caught on camera spitting at Lavezzi in retaliation and the two almost came to blows, so video evidence is possible.

“I spat in his general direction, but I did not get him in the face. I accept advice from those who tell me not to react that way, but he elbowed me first and it all started from there.”

Not good for Rosi. He keeps shooting himself in the foot every chance he gets.

I wish Ranieri would have come out and taken the blame for this loss instead of only giving credit to Napoli. They played better but I don't think that's saying much considering how terrible we were. He got the lineup wrong, and there was no reason to sit both Totti and Menez. One of those two had to play from the start.

Video of the Rosi-Lavezzi incident below. Silly from Rosi. I'm not sure when Lavezzi actually elbowed him to get him so worked up? Also, who spat at who first? I'm ot sure, but I think it looks like it were Aleandro. A tough night for him. It was always going to be hard up against Lavezzi, and he got skinned a few times early on and I feared for him, but he came into it a bit more as the game wore on. He didn't cover himself in glory though and I doubt he done much to convince Ranieri.



Oh, both Rosi and Cassetti, along with De Rossi, are suspended for next weeks trip to Genoa, so problems at right-back (and Aleandro might get a longer ban if he and Lavezzi are punished with video evidence). Mexes and Burdisso will be back so the latter will probably be a right-full.

The reports coming out of Roma today are illustrative of internal problems with the club and the coach. Certainly, Ranieri will finish out the season and then this club will move in another direction. As Perrotta said today, there is not longer any room for talk about first place. The objective now is simply to make the top four. So, for all intents and purposes, the season is over. I think we all know this anyway so what else is there to talk about with this team? I think we need to start making a list of those players who will be gone along with Ranieri by next season. We can start with Marco Cassetti.

I agree with you Fahad, when I saw the lineup, I knew the game was lost before kickoff. In fact, I knew this game was lost at the middle of last week. I have not heard Ranieri's post game comments but I cannot see any justification for not starting Menez.

hey Shield, i saw Lavezzi give Rosi an elbow to the back of his head as he was going down before the spitting incident. i dont know how many other elbows Lavezzi gave him, but that one looked like a cheap shot he took on Rosi when Rosi did well to get in front of him.

Juve pull off a win over Inter today, huh. it was only a couple weeks ago we were playing Juve out of the park and they were doing horrid and they show up against Inter. where the hell were we?? Perrotta's comments may confirm internal strife, but i didn't understand to what extent when he mentioned that the club is no longer behind them. i dont think anyone should read Ranieri's post game comments these days, it's too full of humble pile and it's infuriating when you had the team playing so well a few days prior.

Well here's a little trip down memory lane to better times. This blog has a download of Roma v Inter 12, December 1982 the season Roma won their second Scudetto. I haven't watched it yet as I am downloading it now but I thought you guys might be interested especially Gio.

Invece niente, il francese si tira indietro senza lottare, si arrende subito.

E' l'azione che porterà poi al rigore e al vantaggio di Cavani. Eppure Menez era entrato dalla panchina, ne avrebbe avuta di rabbia da sfogare. Che differenza dalla reazione di Robinho all'esclusione, o alla determinazione dei giocatori del Napoli. Apatia pura e pericolosa del francese, ma sintomo del male della Roma. E non è la prima volta: chi ha giocato al calcio è da mesi che vedendo giocare la Roma percepisce che a Trigoria qualcosa non va. Non ci sono segnali da grande squadra, da gruppo che vuole vincere. E quando accadono queste cose le responsabilità vanno dal magazziniere al presidente passando per tecnico e giocatori, con percentuali diverse rapportate alle responsabilità. Ma nessuno è esente da colpa.

E' stato brutto vedere Ranieri accusare la squadra di non correre e di non avere grinta, triste sentirgli dire "è tutta colpa mia". Impensabile solo qualche me se fa quando la stessa Roma ha sfiorato lo scudetto. Si è rotto il giocattolo e la cosa brutta, è che sembra evidente che nessuno abbia voglia o capacità di riaggiustarlo. La Sensi è ormai fuori, i dirigenti pensano solo a conservare il posto e a cercare sponde con i nuovi proprietari. Ranieri sembra in confusione: in questi momenti di difficoltà dovrebbe puntare sui giocatori di esperienza e personalità e invece Totti va in panchina per far giocare un Taddei che è l'ombra del giocatore che conosciamo. E poi, anche tatticamente non convince: rispetto alla passata stagione, la Roma ha il baricentro almeno 30 metri indietro, troppa paura per essere una grande squadra.
Noi possiamo solo essere rammaricati perchè il campionato ha perso una protagonista nella lotta scudetto e che può cercare di salvare la stagione solo con la Champions e cercando di qualificarsi per la Champions. Con la rosa a disposizione di Ranieri è veramente una stagione buttata via.

I think the point is in the balancing of the clauses - sad to see him doing one thing and then coming out (having to come out?) and saying the opposite. Ranieri took all the blame ("it was all my fault"); during the game we got to see him accusing the squad of not working hard enough, not showing enough heart. Both aspects were sad to see; seeing them both was worse still (as it were).

All I'm worried about now is securing third place. I think that should be the objective for the rest of the season, but even that is looking difficult at this rate. Something is clearly broken at the club and I don't think anything can be done to fix it now. Ranieri's situation isn't helping either. I'm guessing that the players know he'll be gone by the end of the season, and he's starting to lose the team as a result.

Fahad, why worry. This team is going no where fast so why should we lose any sleep over it. One thing about Perrotta's statement that bothers me is his reference to last season. They lost the scudetto, they came up short, and it's history. This is a new season so why dwell on what could have been. That, to me, is quite incredible coming from professional footballers and it illustrates the mental instability of this team.
