Well, Claudio in his turn has been undermined profoundly by the lack of a societa'. He has no authority because no-one thinks his position at the club is for the long term - players like Totti and even Vooch are probably fairly confident that they're more important to the club than the coach and that they're going to be at the club for longer than Claudio. And the same applies to the chairman - even if Rosella had auctoritas she wouldn't be able to use it, given her position on the edge of the precipice as an owner. There is an authority vacuum at the club and we are on the verge of a massive implosion.

I also think we're playing horrible football, though I'm not sure I'd blame it on either the formulation or the personnel. I think we lack fluidity and that almost invariably reflects the number of players a team is prepared to commit forward. We lack profondita' in almost every instance - which, I suspect, is because our players aren't supposed to commit themselves wrong side of the ball. When was the last time we scored a goal with this kind of movement - look at the way Villa's dropping deep draws the CB out (a bad mistake) and Iniesta breaks beyond the ball into the gap that's left. It's so simple but, as Chewna says, it's all about movement - movement off the ball. Some of our gifted players don't seem to be prepared to work - or to be being asked to work - in this way and it's depressing.

Our midfield, especially without Pizarro, lacks the quality to enable the team to play with sufficient flow.

The astonishingly beloved Perrotta is a classic example of this because he is only able to offer covering ability and is useless in possession. For a team like Roma that is wrong to have such one-dimensional players, especially when the team is already lacking the quality to provide regularly good quality service from midfield to players in the final third of the pitch. The same could be said for Taddei in recent seasons and - to a lesser extent - Brighi.

About Ranieri being a lame-duck, that is not necessarily true because if he wins something big this season - remember, he almost won the scudetto last season - there is no reason why he might not be offered a new contract by the new owner.

You won't find other top teams which are genuine contenders to win things using players as limited as Taddei and Perrotta, never mind treating them like precious items of the teams.

If Roma is to become genuine contenders in Europe, they have to go.

Besides, Totti's behaviour's been fine. A few of you seem to me to be falling for the media-generated trap - they spin a big drama out of a few comments and if you spin hard enough you might just be able to turn a minor incident into a big drama. I mean, Totti's comments at the end of the Samp game - seriously? Or after the Bayern game? So far as I could tell almost all of you agreed with him. I'd be more worried if Vooch had been pleased to be subbed.
