Juventus Coach Claudio Ranieri is lining up a shock move for veteran ex-Italy international Luigi Di Biagio.


The horrific injury sustained by star defender Jorge Andrade is not only likely to keep the Portugal international out for the rest of the season but there are reports that it may end the player’s career.

Andrade suffered a suspected snapped knee ligament early in the second half against Roma yesterday and the injury has left Juventus with a crisis in defence.

The Bianconeri are in desperate need of a central defender and had to make do for almost the entire second-period against Roma with the rather shaky-looking centre-half partnership of Nicola Legrottaglie and Alessandro Birindelli.

Although Juventus seem certain to bid for Serbian youngster Branislav Ivanovic during the January transfer window, La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Ranieri is looking for an immediate solution in the form of Luigi Di Biagio.

The 36-year-old is a free agent and would be available to join the Bianconeri immediately. Di Biagio spent most of his career as a midfielder but switched to a centre-back after joining Brescia in 2003.

The Lazio youth-product has had a long and distinguished Serie A career, representing the likes of Foggia, Roma and Inter in Italy’s top-flight. He also won 31 caps for the Azzurri playing in two World Cups and one European Championship. However a move to the Bianconeri at this stage of his career would be an almighty shock.

The Waterboy headed for Juventus exit door?

MILAN, Oct 2 (Reuters) - Alessandro The Waterboy could leave Juventus after talks over a new contract stalled again, the club's sporting director Alessio Secco has said.

The 32-year-old striker joined Juve from Padova in 1993 and has gone on to become one of the club's greatest players, winning a European Cup in 1996.

The Waterboy stuck with the club when they were relegated to Serie B last year because of a match-fixing scandal and helped the Turin side gain immediate promotion back to the top flight.

'There is a risk of losing him but we are doing all we can and there is an intention to find an agreement,' Secco told SKY television.

'The details must stay within the club. It is a situation that is helping nobody.'

The Waterboy was part of Italy's World Cup-winning squad last year but is not the player he once was.

He was dropped following a lacklustre performance in the 0-0 Euro 2008 qualifying draw against France last month and has since said he only wants to play for the Azzurri as a striker and not a midfielder.

Juventus striker partner David Trezeguet had looked set to leave in the close season after his relationship with club bosses broke down. However, he surprisingly signed a new deal and is now Serie A's joint top scorer with seven goals.

Italian media sources claim that Villarreal have shown an interest in Juventus midfielder Tiago.

Tiago, crestfallen after a difficult start to his career at the Old Lady, recently hit out publicly at the club for his lack of first team opportunities in Turin.

Enraged coach Claudio Ranieri, promptly fired back that the ex-Lyon midfielder was not bigger than the team, and that he'd continue to choose the starting XI as he saw fit.

Consequently, the relationship between the pair is thought to have hit a new low, with the Portuguese international's idea of moving on in January perhaps taking on a new air of seriousness.

Compare and contrast this to Juan Roman Riquelme's current situation at Villarreal. The Liga high-flyers recently restated that the gifted Argentine did not figure in coach Manuel Pellegrini's first team plans.

Indeed, the Yellow Submarine hierarchy pledged that they would do their best to offload the playmaker in January, with a host of top European and Argentinean clubs thought to be interested.

Juventus could be amongst them, and that's why various peninsular papers have speculated about a swap deal involving Tiago and Riquelme.

The move could take place in January and could presumably take the form of a part-exchange deal. Villarreal are thought to be ready to cut their losses with Riquelme, while Juve want to recover some of the 13 million euros that they splashed on Tiago.

For now, of course, this remains mere paper talk. Nonetheless, it's possible that each of the two players would be excited with the prospect of their respective switch..

although.. with under his current BS forum. i think he just might go for it..

if juve can get DROGBA.. that'd be ideal i think... both players have a couple of years left in them.. they could really help juve climb back to the top.
