Guys, let's not make a big issue of this. The fact is 'Tec made a joke which went wrong. That post isn't funny, you only have to read it to see... Tom reckoned deleting all related to it was the best way and I agreed. You have known him longer than you have me. Trust his judgment here.
Don't inflate it Steve. You'd have done the same, probably more, and I confined it to three lines then continued the post with Roma chat...look at my post with the team formation.
Jeremy Menez and Marco Borriello scored fine solo efforts to give Roma the 2-0 victory, but Udinese hit the woodwork three times.
Both sides recovered from difficult starts to the season that saw them propping up the table. The Giallorossi had to do without Daniele De Rossi, Simone Perrotta, Rodrigo Taddei and the not 100 per cent fit David Pizarro, but welcomed Marco Borriello back to lead the attack. The visitors were missing Cristian Zapata with Alexis Sanchez only fit for the bench following international duty with Chile. Roma hadn't lost at home to Udinese in five years.
Udinese had a great chance after just four minutes. A corner was knocked down for Maurizio Domizzi, who clipped the crossbar from six yards and the tightest of angles!
Francesco Totti's fierce free kick skimmed the woodwork from distance, but the visitors were again more dangerous. Antonio Di Natale's angled drive from the edge of the box bounced right in front of Julio Sergio, so he palmed it round the near post.
Moments later the goalkeeper was tested again when a lucky deflection fell to Antonio Floro Flores for a quick rising snapshot that stung his palms from nine yards.
Roma threatened too from a corner on 19 minutes. Totti's shot was beaten away by Samir Handanovic into the path of Juan, whose quick strike was deflected inches past the upright by Kwadwo Asamoah.
The Giallorossi broke the deadlock with a stunning solo effort from Jeremy Menez, his first Serie A goal of the season. The Frenchman chested down in midfield, ran down the left and cut in to dribble past two defenders, curling his finish across the goalkeeper into the far bottom corner with the inside of his right foot.
Di Natale sprung the offside trap to draw out Julio Sergio, but the Brazilian got a foot to prod it round the near post. The Udinese star's cross-shot then clipped the far top corner of the crossbar with Julio Sergio backpedalling furiously.
It was a wide open match and very entertaining. Totti saw Handanovic off his line and placed a perfect lob, but the tall shot-stopper was at full stretch to get his fingertips to it and luckily gathered at the second attempt before it could go backwards over the line.
Udinese needed some creativity between the lines, so Sanchez replaced Gokhan Inler after the break.
Menez was fired up and cut in from the right to fire over the bar, but at the other end Floro Flores spun round for a low drive smothered by Julio Sergio at the near post.
Roma doubled their lead with another solo effort. Borriello had done little so far in the game, but he took his chance very well. The striker gathered just inside the area with his back to goal, spun round and used his strength to hold off Domizzi before squeezing the finish between Handanovic and the near post.
Less than 60 seconds after the restart Floro Flores sprung the offside trap to go clear on goal, but Julio Sergio rushed off his line to charge down the lob essentially with his face.
Adriano made his comeback from a long injury lay-off and was greeted by cheers from the stands. German Denis also came on and robbed Fabio Simplicio only to fire straight at the goalkeeper.
Roma seemed comfortable, but shot themselves in the foot nine minutes from time when Nicolas Burdisso was sent off. He was involved in a scuffle with the Argentine and Domizzi holding each other back, but it ended with Burdisso shoving the Udinese man to the ground for a straight red card.
The Friulani tried to take immediate advantage, but were unlucky when Sanchez cracked the upright with a screamer from 20 metres. It was the third time in this game that Udinese had rattled the woodwork.
Philippe Mexes came off the bench to shore up the defence and managed to charge down a Denis strike. Sanchez's ball over the defence set up an Asamoah volley just past the post.
Deep into stoppages Roma had a let-off, as Denis hit the back of the net, but it was incorrectly ruled offside.
To start...firstly, you asked what I said concerning you and I took that to mean as regards the comments 'Tec put together, supposedly from you. That takes up two and two thirds lines. The rest was merely an obvservation by me regarding your friendship with Ed that you'd do well to consider...
If a friend asked me for help or at least co-operation, it would be given. You on the other hand have made clear your reluctance to post in the threads as opposed to the Shoutbox. Not only that, but from the threads you moderate, to be precise, in Greg's new Folk Music thread you state you would like Tommaso to do as you do, and all but abandon the threads at a time when Ed wants to try to attract new members.
You then continue by saying to 'Tec he should bask in his "shit stirring glory." How becoming is that for the act of a moderator, you who criticise me? As for lazy reading, I can't afford to be a lazy reader, and to give just one example, provide translations from Italian to English of articles pertaining to Roma. I'm the first member/moderator here who has made a regular habit of doing that. It may interest you to know I spend a couple of hours on an almost daily basis gathering what info is available to post because I enjoy it. Ours has now become amongst the more "informed" Roma forums outwith Italy and we can thank all who contribute for that. I would personally do more except it's clear the Romanisti here prefer everything lumped together in one large "Open Conversation" type thread or format.
Seeing that piece by 'Tec, reputedly from you, I wasn't about to reason out the terminology since no-one in this life can ever say for certain that another "would never do such a thing!" I reasoned out that the comments in question ought not to have been there, particularly since I had done nothing to deserve them. Yes I take my position as Roma moderator seriously. Why should I not? Ed knew about me, my ways and my manner when he asked me to take it on...he knew what he was getting. No way am I authoritarian in manner. I'm easy going and I want it kept that way. Neither do I regard the Roma threads as "my" property. I try to give us all something but one cannot please everybody.
That said, posts like this one, yours above, and 'Tec's really have no place here. Tommaso, acting as consiglieri and out of concern would agree, which was why he suggested I delete that part of my above post which relates to this business and now only contains Roma info and a brief aside to Lupa. He suggested I delete his post where he had advised me. The only post of yours I deleted was your original in wondering what had been happening. Ed should be able to recover that. Having seen and worked the admin control panel elsewhere, I know these things.
You haven't said who provided the missing text. I will be told, you can rest assured on that. But even if that wasn't the case it may interest you to know Ed will also have access to that piece from the Shoutbox even though it has gone from view.
I understand Ed wants new ways of thinking here, that no-one can succeed by over continuing old ways, and as for this case, as Tom said in the Shoutbox, it should not be dragged on. It should be buried as being non constructive. Maybe this forum needs a bit more seriousness to grow, and less shit stirring merely because some consider it to be funny. We all need, not just want humour, but for it to work we all have to be able to walk away at the end without feeling a sour taste in the mouth. Now, may we consider the matter finally closed before it is demanded of us?
From Romanews, the ratings with comments by Marco Valerio Rossomando.
Julio Sergio - 6.5: Always punctual and careful in action. Made no mistakes.
Cassetti - 6: Not an Oscar winning game but was tidy and precise. Took no risks.
Juan - 7: A fundamental player. His advanced play was a beauty. He was everywhere. Many high level acts. An authentic wall.
Burdisso - 5.5: Perhaps the expulsion was exaggerated, but today he seemed to be much too nervous. Floro Flores made him suffer.
Castellini - 5.5: Tried to limit damage in a shrewdly played game.
Simplicio - 6: Made mistakes in midfield. Today was not so much present in the opposing half.
Brighi - 6.5: Wasn't so noticeable on the left but played an essential part. Recovered many balls and made good runs.
Greco - 6.5: Another good performance from this boy who now has given us a taste for him. A fighter who shows character and personality.
Ménez - 8: Spectacular. Today was a force of nature. He "cracked" it with his pace and a goal. Always present and alive in the game, he also recovered many lost balls. If he continues thus, he is devastating.
Totti - 6.5: It is in optimal condition and form. Illuminated the game with his inventions, made assists, but still cannot score a goal from open play.
Borriello - 6.5: Sixth goal for him in a most difficult game where he saw little of the ball. A "customary" centre forward, the goal was a compound of force and determination. He is a Bomber!
Julio Baptista - 5.5: Today seemed more lively than usual but contributed nothing to the giallorossa cause.
Adriano - 5.5: Twenty minutes in which he demonstrated there is still much work needed on his physical condition. The wish is there but unfortunately that isn't enough.
Mexes - 6.5: Played just a few but perfect minutes.
Ranieri 6.5: Very good. Took a chance once again on Ménez who repaid him with a super performance. There are still too many defensive "amnesias," but things are now on the right track.
Some alternative pagelle for comparison: http://www.forzaroma.info/le-pagelle/77 ... occhi.html I'm more inclined to agree with the romanews ones Carlo has translated, but I'm sure dibbus will prefer this account of Cassetti's performance.
Tom, they always vary, don't they? Sometimes it's actually quite amusing to read the hopelessly biased ratings. I don't remember offhand just which journalist in Italia even used to go the length of giving a "Tops and Flops" rating for the absolute best player and the absolute worst. I'm suspiciously reminded of the long running Processo di Biscardi tv football chat show from TMC, La7, and now on Italia 7 Gold. Just the kind of thing Aldo Biscardi woulddish up but it's not him in this case.
There's very little to add for now. Hopefully I wiil get online late tonight once the latest Classifica is complete. We have sweated blood over Roma this season and now the repair is looking like it is holding, I'm anxious to see where we will lie after today's matches.
From Romagiallorossa: Yet again the name of Stefan Savic of Partisan Belgrade as we have already discussed here appears, if Mexes should leave. There is now another name also mentioned as a Mexes replacement, Michael Ciani of Bordeaux.
From Forza Roma, irrespective of what referee Orsato thought, Nico Burdisso insists the red card was undeserved. "It was a corner kick and everyone was trying to get the best position. Domizzi and I were forehead to forehead. I did nothing wrong. What most angers me is that I'll have to miss our next match!" (against Palermo next Sunday in Sicilia, 20:45CET.)
...and lastly, from Tifosidellaroma, Jeremy Ménez has had a song dedicated to him, "Se ne ma," in honour of the goal scored! It's not that great but what the hell, it's not everyone who rates one!
