De Ceglie was doing well before the injury. He finally looked like a Serie A standard left back.

It's just shit stirring about Buffon, I think, because he hasn't been spending much time around the squad when he's been injured. He's probably just keeping his distance to let Storari work in peace, rather than reminding Storari he'll be out of the team no matter how well he does.

Juve will move for Cassano, I would think. They just need to be careful not to be seen to be getting involved when there is the disciplinary matter ongoing.

Marotta was in Madrid over the weekend, supposedly to speak to Real about the fee they are to recieve (5m, apparently) when Cassano leaves Samp.

I'm not so sure that Gigi Buffon isn't thinking of a move. You guys will know better than I what his salary is right now. If he is thinking of a move we can be sure he is thinking $ signs, given his age and a possible recurring of injuries. The back is not something which can be continually abused even after surgery. If he leaves, and that is a big IF, I hope he chooses well. Hell, the guy is an Italian icon. Seeing him play for turds like Man City for dropouts like Mancini is a horrifying thought!

What I fell apart laughing at was once again the story of The Waterboy being welcome at Milanello. Oh he'd fit in all right, with their squad the age factor alone tells us that! But he's as likely to leave Juve as he is of poking his own eyes out!

He's on about 5m per year.

We'll see how Buffon is when he comes back. The previous things have been quick fixes. This is meant to be the major op and long rest to really try and sort things long term.

And I'm sure he'll choose well. Buffon seems a decent guy, so he'll move to experience a new country and win things, not for cash, if he moves.

I think we need Benzema more than we need Cassano, but both would be amazing, especially if we could offload Amauri in January. As for Palermo players, the only player I'd pick up from them is Cassani. Pastore is a great talent, but so was Diego, we don't have the players to support a trequartista right now, plus you'd have to outbid chelsea, Inter, man u, barca, and I'm sure Real think they could use another CAM. Motta will get us through this season, but we shouldn't take up the option to buy him. I also hope this new look Juve will convince Criscito to abandon the genoa ship at the end of the season.

^ I agree. A prima punta is vital for us. Amauri is trash, and Iaquinta is always crocked. Cassano would be great and all, but we have two in-form support strikers in The Waterboy and Quagliarella. Dzeko seems like a very likely buy next summer, so I really don't think we're going to make a move for a striker this winter.

Motta has been disappointing, and I wish we'd kept Caceres. De Ceglie's improvement really surprised me. His injury really sucks.

Finally, I don't think we're going to sell our youngest goalkeeper, who also happens to be the best in the world, our vice-captain, and a symbol of the club.

I can see us making a loan-to buy move for Benzema in January and see how it works out, then evaluate our options in the summer. He is younger than Dzeko, and probably cheaper.

Don't think it's a done deal quite yet.

If he's non-EU, as I believe he is, that would be the end of the Dzeko pursuit, unless Juve pull the sort of scam they did with Mutu.

Well, we did tell you about Motta but you didn't want to believe us. This is from an interview with Pepe today: Io terzino? “Se dovesse ancora servire, non avrei problemi a adattarmi. Una trasformazione definitiva? Se il mister me lo chiedesse dovrei pensarci, ma non ci sarebbero comunque problemi. Con la buona volontà si può riuscire a fare qualsiasi cosa". He's spent his whole career being eased into increasingly defensive roles where his work-rate can be used without his lack of technical quality being exposed. Poor fella.

I didn't realise that about Zambrotta. Pepe was a forward throughout his time at Roma, I believe - more so even than when he was at Udinese.

Zambrotta played as a striker at Bari in the beginning of his career, then to a central midfielder, then to a left or right winger, then to fullback.
