You are speaking of L'Imperatore, the Adriano whose football so many people including myself enjoyed watching and will never see him play like that again. Fully fit and with his physique, Adriano was capable of a whole lot else besides just holding the ball up...bring on the new owners! Then we can afford what he once was!

I too, didn't want Motta to leave and no-one is going to tell me that "blind auction" which saw him off was all above board! As for Motta himself, I think we all knew he didn't want to be just a substitute. He was too good for that if not actually being star quality. Having said so, if we read some Juventini comments on him, both here and elsewhere, we see they agree with Ranieri's lesser assessment of him. As it happens, I think Rosi has the talent to be more than Motta but he so obviously still has a lot to learn. I wouldn't give Loria a second thought...unless we need a new lavatory attendant in the Trigoria facilities!

This afternoon we will see a back four of Cassetti - Nico Burdisso - Mexes - Riise, with Rosi as a sub for Cassetti if a later change is needed. If it's an earlier change, then it will be Cici.

Oh and on the seniority...you nut, you know fine well Gio and I share the same distinction of having been giallorossi since back in the 1970's! As for the 2 cents worth, pardon me while I laugh! I give variety, and regularly!

It looks as though Pizza and Burdisso may both be deemed fit enough to start. If that's true, and they are properly fit, that's a huge bonus for us. The idea of Cassetti or the younger Burdisso in central defence today sends shudders down the proverbial and we all know how important the Pizza is to this team. Forza La Magica.

We're doing ok so far, we've been the better team but just couldn't push in the intensity levels and take control of this game. Menez is a big loss, we need him badly today for that bit of creativity in the middle. Simplicio is having a bad game and not only is he looking unfit and sluggish his touch is poor too. Losing Menez so early was a blow too cause we're desperately short of midfielders, and Greco could of come on late in the game for Simplicio who is struggling. I presume Pizarro is not on the bench.

Never offside for Greco's goal. Borriello was in line with the defender.

If Reja's looking for the Zarate kid at training this week he may find he's still in Cassetti's pocket. Brought on to run at the yellow-carded fullback after 20 minutes he had to go and play through the middle because he was getting such a spanking. Greco did terrifically - I can't see how it doesn't, though, just corroborate what I and others have said in the past: surely a fit, enthusiastic kid is a better option at times than a tired, injury-carrying 'titolare'. Why not turn to him when we were so clearly in need of new midfield legs against Bayern etc. etc. And that comment's aimed at Spags as much as at Ranieri. Enthusiasm may not be a substitute for quality in the end, but being able to run and hustle and hustle and run is a kind of sine qua non, surely? Vooch did very well - still some of the frustrating but a better ratio today and I loved the way he skinned Licksteiner in the first 5 mins.

I thought Simplicio did fine again too. He wasn't great but he was fine and he's more technical than any of the other options in there and that makes a difference. A big pity to lose Menez and his chance to shine, but Greco's performance is no small consolation.
