The preference for Aabar is probably based on the wealth and capacity (serious business interests, billions in reserve, and - as an indicator of their wealth - they paid 1.4bn euros to buy a big slice of UniCredit in June of this year) and the fact that Marcel Vulpis, the respected director of the Sport Economy website, said yesterday they will have definately submitted an offer and are very serious about acquiring Roma, something he has maintained since the debt-settlement agreement in July.

It makes sense too because Roma probably represents the biggest margin for on and off-pitch growth among European clubs.

Yes, I remember the story of Angelini's daughter trying to dissuade him from buying our club. Angelini knows an offer made at this point is still unofficial because it is not legally binding but neither is anyone else's offer and if it really is so that there are a half dozen interested parties, then we are about to see a bidding war which would explain his act. The alternative to me is unthinkable, that the head of a very wealthy pharmaceutical concern, who is also a locally and individually powerful man, is just seeking free publicity for his existing business from the football team he personally loves.

I don't doubt the Aabar credentials, it's just as I say, know nothing of them.

Hmm, if this is true. Don't know how reliable the site is. Also there are stories in Arabia that the interest of Aabar is real in Roma. Why I'm backing them? Sure they got deep pockets etc. but with them we can also realize a new stadium, marketing would be a lot better plus the players we want. Hopefully we don't turn into a new Man City and just buys buys buys with no thoughts behind it. Just pry away Baldini, let him run things, fire Prade, keep Montali and let Bruno run the youth sector. Oh and hire Ancelotti for next season haha. Just dreaming guys. Few things could be done tho.

Claudio Ranieri feels that Roma have the edge in the derby. “Lazio know that sooner or later they will lose. Their biggest fear is that it will be against us.”
The Giallorossi are trailing badly in the Serie A standings, a full 10 points behind their arch rivals ahead of the Sunday afternoon showdown.

“I won’t talk about Lazio or make comparisons,” warned the Coach. “Roma are Roma, I have never been remotely interested in anyone else.

“There isn’t any difference in quality between the two sides, it is merely down to this moment in the standings. They are two teams battling for the top spots and we’ll see who is up there come the end of the season.”

The Biancocelesti are the surprise leaders and are unbeaten since the opening weekend, but Ranieri believes it is only a phase – and they know it.

“Lazio know that sooner or later they will lose. Their biggest fear is that it will be against us. They will be extremely tense.

Jeff, the part of Signor Claudio's statement that packs the most punch for me is, "Lazio know that sooner or later they will lose. Their biggest fear is that it will be against us. They will be extremely tense!" I'd rather see this kind of comment than those for example from Ciccio Graziani who has long since turned into a parody of himself. Still, better seeing that than the predictable and repetetive opposite from Paolo Di Canio, the segaiolo lazialo!

Gio, you know that Angelini is my preference too. We could talk all night of what he has in his favour, a local boy with his heart in the right place, quite apart from his business expertise. It's for these reasons I find it hard to accept he may only be time wasting and in fact I don't believe it! I'd rather see a man with his credentials installed and taking three or four years of steady growth to build us into a proud Roma with all our values intact than see us become as you described it, unrecognisable! We must however face the fact he could be outbid...

Deini, if this part is true... "Il fondo Aabar offre €500 milioni per la Roma," they would indeed be capable of financing Roma's future, stadium complex et al! Yes, as you point out, there is the very great risk of becoming another Man City or worse. We have to hope and trust in those people within Rothschild, Unicredit, Italpetroli, etc. that they would take all aspects into consideration before accepting a bid such as this reputed one on financial merits only. The problem could be of course, as so often happens in the face of so much money, that the integrity is swept aside.

Pocari, that's what I'm here for, updating the threads! I prefer to leave the tactics to guys like yourself, Fahad, and Tommaso who read them well. For example, I never really considered until you mentioned the fact that Adriano could in fact be used as a late substitute, a time waster to lock down a game. A very fair suggestion. I don't think Adriano sees himself in that role but it may very well be the best he will get from il mister unless, and it's not looking likely, there is a marked improvement in his condition! On that issue, did you notice Cicinho the other day getting in "Big Fatso's" corner and saying he will come good? Maybe he meant after January for Santos who supposedly want him.



Now this is the kind of "gossip" I call worthwhile. Although Carlo Ancelotti is saying that if Chelsea want him to, he will renew his contract, but he is also insisting he will not spend his entire career there, as Roma stays in his dreams!

We may not get him for next season, but perhaps the following?

Angelini is my first choice too. Wasn't he looking for people to invest with him in Roma last year? I don't know if his interest is real or not. Time will tell. When there was this cda meeting last week or 2 weeks ago there was this one guy saying he rather didn't want Angelini nor Angelucci getting their hands on Roma.

Deini, yes, I did a copy/paste from my Thursday post of the formation to save time and I forgot to change the Juan part! I edited the above post to read correctly.

I remember Angelini back then looking for financial backers which suggested one of two things...that he hadn't suffient funds of his own, or far more likely, he didn't want to risk any more of his own money than he has to and since the financial world appears to operate on the rule of using other peoples' money if you can, then that seems the probable explanation.

I read of some of Angelucci's activities when Gio first drew our attention to what a shady character he is, this "The King of the Roman Clinics" who is up to his ears in matters we wouldn't want the Roma name associated with. There was a situation not unlike his, here in the UK back in the 1980's when known criminals and "wide boys" took advantage of lavish Government funding to open clinics and retirement homes for the sick and elderly. Quite aside from irregularities (financial and other) involving patients, there were the matters of defrauding both the Customs and Excise and Inland Revenue Departments on the buying of properties well below market values.

He has his own version of those activities. Both he and his father owing large amounts in taxes...I needn't continue, I'm sure you get the picture if you don't already know what is happening.

I don't know why this man you mention would not appprove of Angelini though.
