Dea'cent enough performance from the boys. Some good passing and all round play and we haven't felt Pizarro's absence too much. De Rossi is playing well in that respect. Our front 'three' have linked up well and Vucinic is electric out on the left (although its not quite the left-midfield role he's playing, its more a left-wing forward). Unlucky not to have got at least one on the scoreboard so far, then again we have had a few lapses in concentration at the back too so we're lucky not to have conceded too. No need to panic, keep playing like this (and tighten things up at the back) and the result should come.

WTF... Totti gets sent off for the dumbest thing, he's refusing to leave the pitch and now we're fucked against Lazio. Vucinic finally scores but WTF, he could've nailed that free header or gotten it to Borriello. watching Vucinic is becoming increasingly frustrating, he's becoming a whiny goal whore who doesnt play with the team now

Bravo Nico! I agree we are better with than without Mexes but anyone who doesn't think we also need Nico Burdisso is kidding himself...

I had to make do with Rai's Radio Uno commentary because I became too pissed off, fucking around with 'net streams which I hate at the best of times. I therefore won't say much other than mention that on the whole, the commentators thought we conceded too much space both in midfield and in defence to Lecce in the first half, and were struggling up until Nico Burdisso headed us in front.

It was aggravating to hear of how both we and Lecce hit the crossbar, and to not see exactly why Totti was sent off, but at least I was in touch with what had happened. I'm glad that Vučinić made the game safe though again it was frustrating wondering just what was involved in his missed opportunities! It's not the same when you can't see for yourself.

I'll see the Rai and Mediaset highlights shows later, and if I can I will post more, based on that...but one thing's for sure. We are still a team in difficulty. It doesn't matter that Lecce have put together a few decent performances this season. We all know this is the kind of game we ought not to make such heavy weather of to get the win! That said, I'm bloody glad we got it!

After seeing the highlights I have to say, I wondered once again how frustrating it must be for a player, as Borriello was, to be onside when he scored a goal, only to have it ruled out because a team mate was offside at the time as De Rossi clearly was. To say it's bad enough for we fans is an understatement!

Julio Sergio made a couple of terrific saves as usual. Nico Burdisso's headed goal was a cracker, and Vuci's cool finish after his run up the left wing was just what you'd expect from him. He, Ranieri and Rosella were all predictably non-committal when interviewed over the Totti sending off. That was one really angry guy, and apart from De Rossi having to guide him away from trouble on the pitch, I counted five who were all struggling to restrain him from going after Oliveira as they went down the steps to the tunnel. So he is out for the derby and because we must, we will find a way to manage without him as we have done before...

My apologies, I can't remember who mentioned here, Daniele Corvia, one of our discarded youth players now with Lecce. Don't we just have a knack over the years of doing that same stupid thing, time after time, letting better go than we replace them with!

For once I'm actually grateful the management is continuing with the media blackout except for what is deemed as absolutely necessary public speaking. Like I said before, I for one would not enjoy reading OTT comments by one of Rosella's "yes-men" on how great this win is, though heaven knows we needed it badly enough!

Nico Burdisso was voted migliore in campo yesterday evening for his headed goal and all-round performance which included twice saving our asses from our ex youngster Daniele Corvia. A good way to make a comeback, and this is exactly the Burdisso that Ranieri demanded we buy in the summer calciomercato!

Nico too was notably very non-committal on the sending off of our Capitan' Francesco, telling Sky Italia in his post match interview, "I didn't see it," meaning the incident which led to the red card...

Of course, "her highness" will appeal against the ban but it's the "afters" more than the actual original incident, as we all know, which will hang Francè. So, as he is to miss the derby, it's a safe bet he will play against Basilea in the CL this Wednesday.



Just a thought after seeing Palermo lose at home to Lazio today...we are all used to Zamparini's rantings and ravings down in Sicilia and I'm sure some of you guys will have noticed he recently insulted his players by calling his team the "worst in Italy." However much we criticise our principessa, and deservedly so for her lack of business ability, as a woman her heart is in the right place. She'd never say that about Roma.

Of course we're better off having both Burdisso and Mexes. Any top team competing in three competitions needs at least three quality centre-half's, we which are fortunate enough to have. All three are getting good playing time and so there is no need for anyone to be unhappy, and so long as the Tinkermans selects the players who are in form for each game there should be no problem. To my mind, Mexes is looking in better shape than Burdisso at the moment and, crucially, our defensive unit looks more solid when Philippe is in there alongside Juan.

this morning are saying that Mexes has recovered and so will be available for Basel on Wednesday. One man who won't be making that trip is Cassetti who got a knock to his ankle against Lecce, so Cicinho is likely to start (lord help us). The midfield and attack are likely to be the same.

Totti rails against injustice

Roma captain Francesco Totti claims he didn't deserve to be sent off against Lecce on Saturday evening. The 34-year-old was dismissed after he clashed off the ball with Ruben Oliveira, who was also red carded.

Andrea Gervasoni, the referee, noted in his match report: “He raise his hand to the opponent's face. I couldn't but take out a red card.”

However, both players insisted that they didn't touch each other amid speculation that a slap was thrown. Totti was furious with the decision, as it means he misses this weekend's derby against Lazio.

“I didn't do anything,” he said. “I have not given anyone a slap. I didn't deserve the sending off.” Il Corriere dello Sport understands Roma will appeal Totti's suspension if it is for any longer than one match.

I was away and have only seen highlights of the game, which didn't really give a good view of what happened between Totti and Oliveira. It's possible that what happened there wasn't red card worthy, but Totti's actions after may have earned him a longer ban.

Three points next weekend would be a good start to healing this team's woes, but I can't help thinking there are serious problems in that dressing room.

For Pocari and thredzo, from the pagelle on romanews, some of which I'm inclined to disagree with:
Vucinic 7 : Semplicemente fondamentale questo giocatore. Quando sta bene come oggi spacca la partita. Primo tempo fantastico, sfiora il gol, fornisce assist e si danna l´anima che è una bellezza. Nella ripresa cala un pochino complice la stanchezza ma trova comunque la rete della sicurezza. Strepitoso. Mezzo punto in meno per la poca concretezza sotto porta.

Vooch was doing a lot of whining on Saturday, thredzo; there is also, as you say, such an infuriating superficialita' to some of his play (the carelessness with which he gives the ball away; the inaccuracy of his final ball; the profligacy of his finishing). On the other hand, particularly in the first half, he was uncontainable. He seems finally to have learnt what Spags kept trying to hammer into him: profondita'. Sure, pick the ball up short at times and run at your defender and carry a threat that way. Equally, keep making those runs in behind and creating passing options for others. I thought DDR did look lighter than at any stage this season and was tempted to draw a link with the fact that his passing was much better than it has been for a while and he certainly enjoyed knocking Vooch in down the left. Nice to see Cicinho getting another bit of a chance, though a pity it suggests Ranieri really doesn't have much faith in Rosi at this stage. Ridiculous refereeing on the red card.
