And for your entertainment this pearl of wisdom posted on the Offside by one mister AYR. Idiot.
"I know Totti is good and all, but shit, whats with all the love for him? He hasn't even been that important to Roma's (little) success of the last decade or so. He's been about Mancini-level importance. just for a longer period of time."
Priceless huh... just priceless.

LaRoma24.it lists i convocati for the Lecce match:
Julio Baptista Julio Sergio Bertagnoli Marco Borriello Matteo Brighi Nicolas Burdisso Marco Cassetti Paolo Castellini Cicinho Daniele De Rossi Juan Bogdan Lobont Jeremy Menez Philippe Mexes Stefano Okaka Simone Perrotta John Arne Riise Aleandro Rosi Fabio Simplicio Francesco Totti Miko Vucinic
Kick off against Lecce is at 18.00CET in the Olimpico di Roma. Daniele De Rossi, Jeremy Ménez, and Julio Sergio are all now available. As we now know, Pizarro could be out for 6 weeks and Taddei for around a month. Big Fatso Adriano isn't even worth a comment!
Romagiallorossa is at least speaking some sense as regards Vuci and De Rossi being unsaleable under our present management. However, they state that the hope in England is that when a change of ownership arrives, the situation could change.
Further to my post of late yesterday on our finances:
Romanews continues on the topic of unpaid players wages and where I had previously thought the penalties imposable by the FIGC would be along the lines of a fine, they are suggesting we could suffer a points deduction in the classifica, as published in La Reppublica.
La Reppublica: By November 15, the players should be paid their monthly salaries for July, August, and September, otherwise there is the concrete the risk of undergoing a points reduction in the league table. Meanwhile yesterday the accounts figures up to June 30 was accepted by the directors, showing a loss of €22 million. Before the the meeting was convened, Rosella Sensi read a statement that the offers to buy the club were now invited and that she will demand the best for the club from the new owners... (ed.Carlo: could they be any worse than her régime?)
ROMA-LECCE, i convocati: tornano DE ROSSI, JULIO SERGIO e MENEZ – Venerdì, 29 ottobre 2010 ore 12.18.13 - 434 letture
Assenti, come previsto, David Pizarro, Rodrigo Taddei e Adriano. Ecco la lista dei convocati:
Baptista Bertagnoli Borriello Brighi Burdisso N. Cassetti Castellini Cicinho De Rossi Juan Lobont Menez Mexes Okaka Perrotta Riise Rosi Simplicio Totti Vucinic
PROBABILE FORMAZIONI: (4-4-2) Julio Sergio; Cassetti, Burdisso, Juan, Riise; Perrotta, De Rossi, Brighi, Vucinic; Totti, Borriello.
DDR back in to replace Pizarro. Pizza is a huge loss and one which severely limits what this side can do in this 4-4-2 formation. Not much creativity in midfield with Perrotta and Brighi also playing, and Vucinic is wasted on the left. If Menez is fit he needs to play. Mexes also a slight doubt having stopped training yesterday, not sure what's wrong with him, but if he's fit he should play.
Sorry Carlo missed your post. Is Pizza out for 6 weeks? I had read somewhere that it was for only 4. Not good anyway, lot of important games in November which he'll now miss: Basel (a), Lazie, Fiorentina, Juve (a), Bayern, Palermo (a). Feck.
Baptista Bertagnoli Borriello Brighi Burdisso N. Cassetti Castellini Cicinho De Rossi Juan Lobont Menez Mexes Okaka Perrotta Riise Rosi Simplicio Totti Vucinic
No Taddei and no Pizarro? What the hell's Ranieri playing at?
It looks like a black November for us, Ed...a poor run up to the Christmas break altogether. I read Pizza was facing 40-50 days out, but even supposing he is back in quicker time, he is still going to need to get back up to speed. I hope Santa Claus brings us our new benefactor.
But what about this carry on with the unpaid wages again? Unbelievable! To be entering December nearly €50 mil in the red? A new owner's very first move will be to bail us out!
Tom, it's OK, Claudio will play Loria in goal and Julio Sergio as secondo punto to Vuci!
More injuries, more problems and the dramas continue at the Stadio Olimpico. Chilean midfielder David Pizarro broke down in training and looks certain to miss the weekend match against Lecce. The controversial substitutions of Francesco Totti and Mirko Vucinic hinted that further difficulties loomed for Claudio Ranieri and signals from the English Premiershit that the Giallorossi’s players could be ripe for the picking have all provided plenty of writing material for sport journalists. Whether any of these mutterings will turn into something concrete is highly unlikely but we will look at these issues in turn and make our own conclusions.
Pizarro’s muscular injury is certainly a massive blow to Ranieri. He has been Roma’s most consistent performer in a very incoherent team throughout this troublesome season. During a simple keep-ball exercise on Tuesday, the playmaker felt a sharp pain after completing a short sprint and had to be put on the electric cart and taken back to the changing rooms. There is a risk the injury could see him out for the rest of 2010. If it is a simple sciatic issue, the prognosis is not so bad. The red and yellow half of Rome will be hoping this is the case as the geometric passing skills that Pizarro brings to the team are quite irreplaceable.
We intimated that the Vucinic and Totti substitutions during the Parma game may have caused some ructions but thankfully this has not been the case. Totti certainly has not made any issue of it (maybe he is getting accustomed to being subbed?). Some hot air did appear to come from the Montenegrin camp, as supposedly Vucinic did not accept being replaced with much grace. It was reported he kicked a water bottle on his way to the bench and felt he had been treated unfairly. Those poor water bottles always take the brunt of these disapproving players! His actions were then interpreted as overtures towards a potential split between Roma and Vucinic with Inter and Liverfekkin'wankscum the first in the queue should the striker make his desire to leave public. A series of events that has spiralled into column inches of supposed discontentment. Are we really to believe that one substitution should constitute enough reason to want to leave your club? Such talk has now evaporated as Vucinic looks to be a certain starter against his former club Lecce. Here at Club Focus, we refuse to be drawn into such futile debates. We do not expect the Roma forward to be wearing anything other than the shirt he currently does now, for the foreseeable future.
Daniele De Rossi has overcome his injury problems but still looks likely to miss this week’s match in favour of being fully ready for the derby with Lazio. Calf injuries are notorious for recurring even if all seems well and the Roma medical staff are quite rightly easing him back slowly. It would make no sense for him to play this Saturday and risk tweaking the muscle once more. With Pizarro missing, the sustained return of ‘Capitan Futuro’ is critical. The Italian international has also been subject of enquiries by Premiershit clubs as Roma’s season continues to stutter. Manchester United have been long term admirers of the tough midfielder but for Roma to sell him would be a huge gamble and surely not worth a penny of the millions of Euros it would no doubt take to prise him away. Keeping him is a sign of the continuing ambition of the club and he is a symbol to the fans. It would not go down well with them, not for all the espresso in Italy.
Looking ahead to the Lecce game, Fabio Simplicio could get the start he has been desperately waiting for in the Pizarro role. He did not impress in his position just behind the strikers last week, so maybe he can provide a better performance at the base of the midfield. As we discussed, De Rossi is likely to be spared and so Matteo Brighi will continue to deputise. Laterally, Simone Perrotta is expected to play on the right of midfield and Vucinic on the left. Marco Borriello and Totti will again lead the line, with Er Pupone hoping to finally get on the score sheet as his barren spell in front of goal trundles on.
Julio Sergio could return as he has made startling progress since his ankle micro fracture. A reborn Philippe Mexes should again demote Nicolas Burdissso to the bench following his swashbuckling efforts last time out. A good Roman team really does need an in-form Mexes. The formation looks set to be 4-4-2 again, even though, as discussed in our Club Focus, we do have reservations as to its effectiveness given the players at Ranieri’s disposal. We can judge its effectiveness next week.

So Sampdoria are rescinding Cassano's contract because he offended the President of the club... anybody for bringing that nutcase back to Roma on a free transfer?? I know it won't happen..
Sampdoria Ask For The Immediate Rescission Of Antonio Cassano's Contract
Antonio Cassano's time at Sampdoria is up after the club applied for a contract rescission, according to the ANSA press agency.
MORE: Antonio Cassano to rescind contract and join either Milan, Inter or Juventus on a free deal. Sampdoria have betrayed Antonio Cassano - Agent
Cassano has already been frozen out of the squad following his outburst against club president Riccardo Garrone. Samp confirmed on Friday that they would impose sanction on the player, but no one expected their move to oust him.
Sources close to the club have confirmed that they have already started proceedings to rescind his contract by sending a memo to the Lega Serie A's arbitration panel.
Garrone himself told ANSA there would be a strict press silence until the Lega reaches its decision.
"There is a press silence until the meeting with the arbitration panel of the Lega," he said.
Cassano is alleged to have insulted Garrone with foul language in front of the team during training earlier this week.
Their conflict sparked after Garrone expressed his disappointment with Cassano because he skipped a club event which he was expected to attend.
In the midst of stories that Ranieri has warned the Newco management team not to sack him because teams invariably do worse after he leaves, the fact that the club is in the financial red and that if the players aren't paid the outstanding four months wages owed to them by mid November we face a points reduction in the league table, we get a statement from Gianni Alemanno, the mayor of the city of Roma regarding the sale of our club, given live to Center Sound Sport:
"I have said that I preferred Romans, or at least Italians, but will never hinder a foreign owner from taking control. The important thing is that the new owner is credible and reliable.”
A true politician's speech...
All the formazioni probabile as given by the leading papers today:
LA GAZZETTA DELLO SPORT: J. Sergio; Cassetti, N. Burdisso, Juan, Riise; Perrotta, De Rossi, Brighi, Vucinic; Totti, Borriello.
IL CORRIERE DELLA SERA: 4-4-2: J. Sergio; Cassetti, Mexes, Juan, Riise; Perrotta, De Rossi, Brighi, Vucinic; Totti, Borriello.
IL MESSAGGERO: 4-4-2: J. Sergio; Cassetti, N. Burdisso, Juan, Riise; Perrotta, De Rossi, Brighi, Vucinic; Totti, Borriello.
IL TEMPO: 4-4-2: J. Sergio; Cassetti, N. Burdisso, Juan, Riise; Perrotta, De Rossi, Brighi, Vucinic; Totti, Borriello.
So the media's considered best option will form up as:
Il mister, being who he is, will probably vary this a little. Reading his words on how he is a fighter and that this is the mentality he is trying to instill in "his lads," we know he can be counted on to "talk" a good game...
Gio, that was an interesting piece you posted yesterday. Perhaps Ranieri will do as that journalist suggested and start Simplicio but I think if we see him at all he will be a later second half sub.
Jeff, we now know that Cassano didn't go to that awards ceremony because he preferred to do the more responsible thing and stay home with his pregnant wife. Perhaps, as the media suggests, this is just an excuse and that there is another as yet hidden reason for wanting Cassano out, one other than that he committed the cardinal sin of swearing at the Samp president in public. As things presently stand, we couldn't afford to buy him even if he is put on the calciomercato this January. There was a time where I would have hated the thought of his return to us. I think now it could be different but it won't happen.
Jeff, I will need to read a little more on that. It doesn't seem likely they would give up his assessed €20mil value over a public swearing exhibition. I think he is in for a caning over it though.
Andrew, this seems more to me like the Samp management is just trying to make him "toe the line," a show of strength as it were. A boss (Garrone) showing one of his workers (Cassano) that he cannot be treated so disrespectfully by anyone (irrespective of whether or not he deserves to be) and that if he didn't take a stand, it would be construed as a sign of weakness. That aside, a club like Sampdoria can't afford to just write off Cassano's value as his payoff and kick his ass out the door. Reading about how distraught Cassano now supposedly is over the affair, I imagine he will next kiss and make up with Riccardo Garrone.
You wouldn't think this is a Roma matchday, would you? A eunuch has more chance of getting an erection than there is of finding enthusiasm in here at the moment, which I concede is understandable! We will beat Lecce today. I know for my part I can do without the predictable over reaction there will be from our management to our winning though. I mean, do me a fucking favour. Under normal circs this game would be dismissed almost as being of secondary importance, or to be more precise, where certain key players would be rested to have them fresh for our CL match on November 3...
Yeah doesn't make sense to 'sack' him. If they do want to get rid of him for whatever reason, surely they'd just put him on the transfer mercato and sell him to Man Citeh for £67.5m or whatever. It all seems like a load of balls to me, though, I'd say it'll blow over.
Balls, just realised our game is not on TV here. Fookin some ManPoo-Spurs shite on instead. Will have to make use of that stream.
Also a pity Mexes is ill. It would be good for him to get a good run in the team and concrete his place in our first 11.
It seems Mexes is "feverish." A touch of 'flu. I thought I was getting the same on Thursday but the Reverend Jack (Daniel's) worked his magic ...again!
