Carlo, I responded to the post when I read it. I also disagree with any agreement of your post, by that Ed's and Giova's. As I said, I've said my piece about the nationality of potential ownership in the past. I think that most here are aware of my views on the topic. I commented on your post because I disagree both with both the substance and thrust of it. What air is there to clear? I think I have made myself pretty clear.

Okay, that post of Carlo's I anticipate you will have to work quite hard to restrain yourself from ripping into. Carlo, stefano (like a number of us) likes to talk an issue or idea or argument through. It's a way of testing out the ideas and seeing if they hold water. That's why we stick with a single point or post - in the hope that having discussed an idea and discovered it to be flimsy, we can agree to ditch it. You prefer to move on to a new topic rather than being forced to revisit your comments and being held to account for them. There's nothing 'personal' in this - it's about taking seriously the notion that we're weighing ideas and arguments. If an argument is shown to be flimsy it should be discarded - but that's not a personal attack on anyone.

That people are 'about' is, of course, no sign that they have time to post even if they do have the inclination. I am in classes and meetings on some Tuesdays from 10-6. I bet it says that I'm online because I'll have my computer on back in my office.

Tom, I don't want, even for one second as I said to Pocari, an incompetent Italian just for the sake of having one, as opposed to a competent non Italian. In fact I've actually raised eyebrows in my time by giving a preference to non Italians over Italians when their merits justified it. I could never be so single minded, trust me. One of the benefits of age is the knowing that it's a man's heart, the kind of person he is, which most counts. But to repeat, if one of the home team has all the required credentials then that's without doubt where my preference lies.

Steve, I've only known most guys here for two years, and that from a distance as opposed to many of you. Perhaps if I'd known you and your views longer I could have seen this was a post criticism more than any personal attack. You and I both have a "responsive" temperament, I'd say that's clear, but it doesn't make coexistence impossible, fortunately!

Giova, I completely agree that Unicredit will seek Italian ownership as the primary goal. That is simply the way that they do business. If they can find positive Italian ownership I will be elated. If not, I hope they do not drag their feet for too long trying to do so. We need to move on to good ownership regardless of nationality. I'm pleased to read that you think the same.
