There is no way UEFA can permit a match to be played in Serbia. Any match from here on out if they are not banned from competition. Regardless of the stadium situation, there is simply no way Italy can be held responsible for what happened on Tuesday.

Blatter said if this was in a English all seater stadium it would not have happened? the only thing that would have happened is the nutters would have had easy access to the pitch at least behind the wall of net and plexiglass they were kept off of the field!

What the British police have done well in recent years is liase with foreign police forces so that they know what to expect and how to deal with it.

That lack of co-operation between authorities seems to have been the primary problem in this case.

Serbia are set to ask Uefa for a replay of Tuesday's Euro 2012 qualifier in Italy which was abandoned after crowd trouble in Genoa. Pre-match clashes in Genoa had already delayed the kick-off before the match was called off after only six minutes.

"We will meet with Uefa president Michel Platini on October 18 and ask for a replay," said association president Tomislav Karadzic.
Karadzic blamed the violence on poor organisation by the Italian FA.

"The FSS Executive Board is unanimous in the assessment that it was up to the Italian Football Association to organise the match properly," he added.

"We had information that some fan groups from Serbia were going to cause trouble and we duly notified the Italian FA and police what might happen."

FSS security commissioner Milivoje Mirkov said: "The policing by the Italian authorities was weak outside the stadium before the match, as it was in the riots that broke out inside the ground."

Serbian fans attacked their own team bus before the kick off, focusing on the team's goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic, who played for Red Star Belgrade before joining city rivals Partizan on loan from Sporting Lisbon in August.

The fans also threw flares at Italian players and fans inside the Luigi Ferraris stadium. Uefa's control and disciplinary body has several sanctions available, ranging from a large fine to expelling Serbia from the Euro 2012 qualifiers and future competitions but Karadzic is hoping that the punishment will not be too severe.

"We are not optimistic about the verdict but we will try to present our case and make it clear that the FSS did everything in its power to prevent the incidents," he said. "However, no punishment should come as a surprise."

On Friday, Serbian police detained 16 fans on their return from Italy. It followed the detention of 19 fans on Thursday while police in Italy made 17 arrests and 16 people were hospitalised after the match. The injured included two policemen.

Surely Italy can only be punished if it is shown that they were warned by the Serbian authorities that something like this was going to happen and they failed to prepare?

That doesn't mean Serbia shouldn't still be held to be primarily at fault, even if there were warnings given.

That's it as it was originally written Tom. Those are Uefa updates and not my ideas, other than my objections to what currently looks like a proposed travesty of justice. The facts I'm unsure of, I posted as questions.

As for technology, eventually there will be a limited amount in place which I know you are not in favour of.

La tecnologia sarà utilizzata solo nei casi di gol fantasma per chiarire se il pallone abbia superato o meno la linea di porta. Il sistema dovrà essere accurato e dovrà fornire un responso, da comunicare agli ufficiali di gare, entro un secondo.

Entro la fine di novembre le compagnie interessate a sviluppare i progetti dovranno presentare i loro strumenti tecnologici alla federcalcio internazionale. Prima del prossimo meeting annuale dell'Ifab, in programma dal 4 al 6 marzo 2011 e nel quale verranno definiti i successivi passi, è previsto un periodo di collaudi per un numero riservato di soggetti interessati.

L'International Board ha inoltre esteso l'impiego sperimentale dei giudici di porta alle competizioni che nel 2011 si svolgeranno in Costa d'Avorio, Messico e Brasile. Attualmente le prove coinvolgono i tornei della Uefa, della federcalcio francese, di quella marocchina e di quella Qatar. Si è già svolto, invece, il collaudo relativo alla President Cup, manifestazione asiatica per club organizzata dalla AFC. La Fifa ha specificato che, in linea di massima, la fase di esperimenti durerà fino alla fine della stagione 2011/2012.

Soccer: Uefa has awarded Italy a 3-0 win after their Euro 2012 qualifier against Serbia was abandoned due to crowd trouble on October 12th, the Italian Football Federation have confirmed.

Serbia fans that travelled to Genoa for the game threw missiles and fireworks onto the Luigi Ferraris pitch during the Group C qualifier, which was stopped just six minutes into the contest. Local police made numerous arrests before and after the game.

Uefa launched an investigation and announced the punishment today. In addition to the defeat, Uefa has ordered Serbia to play their next two games behind close doors, although the second match could eventually be played in front of fans.

Italy did not escape punishment as Uefa also handed them a suspended one-match stadium ban.

The Italian football federation (FIGC) released a statement which confirmed the punishment as "a 3-0 victory in favour of Italy and two games behind closed doors for Serbia, of which one is conditional".

It continued: "Italy have been given a conditional one game behind closed doors. This is the decision of the disciplinary commission of Uefa which met today in Nyon, based on the abandonment of the game between Italy and Serbia on October 12th in Genoa following the crowd unrest by Serbian fans."

'How Italy lost Euro 2012 bid'

The former treasurer of the Cypriot FA Spyros Marangos has told La Gazzetta dello Sport that the voting for Euro 2012 was apparently rigged.

Italy's bid received just three votes at a UEFA assembly in Cardiff three years ago, while Poland and the Ukraine got seven.

Marangos alleges that four UEFA members' votes were bought for a total of €9.15m and insists that he has three witnesses and the proof to back up his claims.

“Before April 18 2007, the day of the vote, I noted strange movements,” Marangos told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “I knew that Surkis had an objective: to take Euro 2012 at all costs. And I started to inform myself.

“There are three witness. One has followed the movements of the people involved. The others can confirm the sums paid after the vote in Cardiff.”

Asked how many UEFA members were involved in the bribe-taking, Marangos said: “Four.

“One took €3.15m. The three others received €2m a head - a total of €9.15m. I know that in Germany they are talking about a fifth person, but I don't have the proof.”

Marangos then gave an insight into where and how the bribes were paid.

“I can only say that here in Cyprus €3.15m was in a big fluffy teddy bear.”

Asked to reveal what proof he has to back up his allegations, Marangos said: “Three documents. But one is sufficient to open an investigation.

“I am not scared. I want to go all the way. But I am scared for wives, kids, friends, witnesses, lawyers and also for you journalists.”

Italy: Ledesma and Diamanti called

Cesare Prandelli has called Cristian Ledesma, Alessandro Diamanti, Federico Balzaretti, Andrea Ranocchia, Alberto Aquilani and Mario Balotelli against Romania. The Italy Coach is taking this opportunity to experiment with his squad for Wednesday’s match in Klagenfurt. Ledesma is the one who stands out, as the Lazio midfielder is from Argentina and has made himself available for the Azzurri. He joins fellow Oriundi Mauro Camoranesi and Amauri in recently accepting a switch to the Nazionale.

Brescia starlet Diamanti has impressed so far this season and received his maiden call, joining Palermo full-back Balzaretti and Genoa’s Under-21 international defender Ranocchia. There are also some important returns to the squad, such as Manchester City striker Balotelli following his injury problems. Juventus midfielder Aquilani is back in the Italy side and Davide Santon of Inter also makes his return. The team will come together at the Coverciano training ground on Monday morning.
