Ed, part of the posting problem will be, as we are all too well aware, that even having won yesterday we are only beginning our recovery. Although nothing compares to success as an incentive, a change or two could inspire more interest...

For what it's worth I think it's time we started making results and league placings info available. In addition to the usual post-match stuff we give, it acts as a point of reference for members to save them having to look elsewhere.

I also think that even though there is a lot to be said in favour of our less formal approach, having our Tana dei Lupi as it currently is, an "Open Conversation" thread doubling up as a Matchday thread, we don't therefore have an easily identifiable opening point to different matchday discussions. Clearly, if our members wanted a dedicated Matchday opener, there would be one by now. Nonetheless it mightn't hurt to make a slightly more elaborate post a few days before a game instead of giving only the possible then probable formations as we do, along with a few accompanying remarks.



Tommaso, I have a nice bandiera ready for when we next knock off Inter and even if it is later rather than sooner, it will keep!

Andrew, I knew you could be counted on to enjoy la città eterna!

Fahad, call this over-optimism if you wish...I watched Bayern play Hoffenheim recently and they were very ordinary. Their late winning goal flattered them. Without Robben they are definitely not the same side, and even though they have Klose, they have been finding goals hard to come by this season. You probably know they are currently ninth in the Bundesliga. Certainly, a lot can change by the 23'rd of November when we next play them.

If Signor Claudio can as you say, "keep it going" for us, then I have hopes of at least not losing to Bayern in the Olimpico. There is reason to be hopeful too that we won't allow Cluj to cause us this Tuesday the problems they did before...

As for the Derby del Sud, Napoli are away to Steaua Bucharest midweek in the EL so the only advantage they will have over us is playing in the San Paolo. If tiredness becomes a factor, it will affect us both!

This time last week I was not at all looking forward to these matches. Now I am!

ROMA - Un compleanno così non lo aveva mai vissuto. Francesco Totti compie oggi 34 anni, alle spalle un Roma-Inter da cui è uscito polemicamente a testa bassa prima che la squadra strappasse una vittoria importantissima. Davanti agli occhi Roma-Cluj, una sfida che può significare immediato rilancio. Forse, però, è il primo compleanno a cui Totti arriva senza avere la certezza che la sua presenza in campo sia indispensabile per la "sua" Roma.

IN BILICO - Quanto è cambiato il mondo da quel 27 settembre 1976. Gli italiani avevano appena confermato il potere politico alla Dc, Bernardo Bertolucci presentava il film Novecento, gli Eagles cantavano Hotel California mentre gli Stati Uniti "sbarcavano" sul suolo di Marte con la sonda Viking 1. Trentaquattro anni dopo, Totti festeggia il diciottesimo compleanno in giallorosso. Quello della "maggiore età", per il capitano della Roma, è anche il campionato che lo mette di fronte ai dubbi. Le 577 maglie giallorosse indossate in carriera, i 245 gol realizzati gli garantiranno per sempre il posto più alto nell'Olimpo romanista. Non possono garantirgli, però, un posto fisso sul rettangolo di gioco. Sabato l'ennesima conferma: Totti esce, la Roma vince, non è un'equazione, ma il risultato di un momento. "Non sarò mai un problema per la Roma", ha quasi urlato ieri sera il numero dieci attraverso il proprio blog.

NUMERI - Oltre alle parole, però, l'umore resta ai minimi storici. Per la prima volta dal 1996 a oggi Totti arriva a soffiare sulle candeline senza aver realizzato un solo gol (era accaduto due anni fa, quando però era infortunato) in una competizione ufficiale. Un motivo in più per sentirsi per la prima volta in bilico, mentre i compagni più giovani - Borriello, Vucinic - segnano e fanno sognare i tifosi. Dalla parte di Francesco ci sono i numeri: 192 reti in serie A - solo 13 meno di Baggio - tutti con la maglia della Roma, miglior bomber in attività. E, soprattutto, i tifosi: in un centinaio ieri hanno dato vita a un corteo di 8 chilometri e mezzo dalla Cecchignola fino a via Vetulonia, la strada dove Totti è nato. Un modo per augurargli il buon compleanno e dirgli "siamo con te". Come alla fine campionato, quando dopo il calcio a Balotelli e le successive polemiche, la Sud - al grido "tutti con Totti" - si è riempita di maglie con il numero dieci. Anche Ranieri, dopo il confronto di ieri che ha di fatto concluso il "caso" di sabato sera, è deciso a rilanciare il capitano romanista nel ruolo preferito, quello di centravanti. Un po' per non costringerlo a rincorse che ne riducono l'autonomia inducendo Ranieri al cambio. Un po' perché un gol ridarebbe a Totti il sorriso e la serenità di cui ha bisogno.

...and on today, it's good to see il mister speak of squad morale being on a new high after the week end. Somewhat predictably we are hearing the tension which existed between he and our Capitan' has been diffused. Looking down the list of i convocati, we ought to be capable of seeing there are no upsets against Cluj tomorrow night and Mediaset is running the text headline that Roma will face "the Italians" of Cluj, two front men and a defender!

As I said in my above post, I'm starting to feel a little of the enthusiasm return. Let's hope it's not misplaced!

Speaking of pics, I'm looking at the latest ones of our presidentessa. I seemed to notice before anyone else here last time she was pregnant and I'm thinking this weight gain now isn't just a craze for midnight snacks, even if she is fast approaching her 39'th birthday...this one today from Trigoria tells me a story and it's more than she shouldn't be smoking!

Nah, he's being helpful, Ed...

No-one is even using the Transfers & Rumours thread so what chance of a dedicated Matchday one, though I agree, for exceptional fixtures such as "Il Derby del Sud" it could be worth a shot. But before we go that far, let's see if we can get some comments from members. You know as well as I that no response can mean no interest, though in some cases can also mean "I don't want to comment until I see the other members' reactions first..."

I had actually already posted a very elaborate header of the kind we see on many other forums including our Juventus threads here, and then edited it out of my post because I think the compromise of keeping our "open coversation" style thread as we currently have with a display of sorts for exceptional games is more worth a try...

Note I'm already acknowledging this header below is a bit too elaborate for our means and is just a guideline as an attention getter and also note the bottom line. if we can even tempt in one new member or a coax a few words from an existing one because of that then it's surely a worthwhile gesture... but before we do anything, I'd like to hear what our friends here think.
