Eto’o praises boss Benitez

Serie A top scorer Samuel Eto’o has expressed his gratitude to Inter boss Rafael Bentitez for turning him back into one of the world’s most lethal strikers.

Eto’o struggled to impose himself in front of goal last season after he was asked to make tactical sacrifices for the good of the team by then boss Jose Mourinho.

“I thank Benitez,” he told La Repubblica. “When he arrived I told him that I would like to get the fans and my teammates more excited about my performances.

“He told me that he would look to find a solution and today I am happy. I play on the left, with less defensive responsibilities and this allows me more freedom in attack.”

The Cameroon international has responded with five League goals so far, including a brace against Bari on Wednesday.

Teammate Diego Milito also found the net twice in that game much to the relief of fans and teammates.

“It was important for us that he returned to the scoresheet after three or four games where he had chances but didn’t score,” continued Eto’o.

“At Palermo during the interval I told him to remain calm because all us strikers suffer from these moments.

“I knew that he just had to stay concentrated because the most difficult thing in this game is getting into scoring opportunities.

“Then when you get those sooner or later the ball will go in. That finally happened against Bari.”

Milito also used the interview to express his admiration for Lionel Messi, his former colleague at Barcelona.

“He is a great footballer, but an even better person,” he added. “I admire him as I do Iniesta, Xavi and Valdes.

“Before the game against Barcelona last season, I told President Moratti that if you buy people like that then they will become symbols for the club as men and players.”

Sneijder rescues woman

Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder performed an act of kindness last weekend when he called an ambulance and stayed with a lady who had been involved in a road accident.

La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that Sneijder witnessed a 29-year-old woman lose control of her scooter on a street in Milan and crash after hitting a pothole.

Instead of turning a blind eye, he went over to see if she were in fact OK, called an ambulance and waited with her while it arrived, making small talk.

Sneijder apparently told the lady “he feels comfortable in Milan and how he felt it was his duty to do what he was doing, out of respect for the fans.”

His comments come amid speculation that talks with Inter regarding a contract extension have stalled amid interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Chivu and Maicon: 'Egotistical Inter'

Cristian Chivu and Douglas Maicon reveal their irritation at Inter’s forwards. “There was too much egotism in attack.”

The Nerazzurri were defeated by a 92nd minute Mirko Vucinic goal at the Olimpico last night and the backlash from that surprise setback to Roma has begun.

“We had the opportunity to get three points, but the attitude we took to this match was not good,” slammed Maicon.

“It was better to lose 3-0 than to fall in stoppages. Unfortunately, we made so many mistakes and Roma took advantage. This was not the same Inter seen against Bari.

“We must focus on getting back on track. This time we lacked a cool head up front and I saw too much egotism in attack.”

Chivu was visibly angry during the match and went to the touchline demanding a tactical switch.

“If it keeps going like this, then I’m going,” he reportedly told the Inter bench. “Either you make them run or take me off.”

The Romanian was playing at left-back and unhappy with the performance of those who were meant to track back.

“He wanted more protection,” admitted Rafa Benitez. “He was always being left one-on-one with Jeremy Menez and already had a yellow card. That’s why I introduced Sulley Muntari, to help Chivu out.”

It is certainly not the first time Chivu has complained at playing left-back, as he much prefers to be a central defender.

Eto'o accused of selfishness

There are reports that some members of the Inter dressing room are unhappy with Samuel Eto'o for his selfish style of play.

The Cameroon international has requested that he play in the middle after operating out wide under Jose Mourinho last season.

He has started the campaign on fire, scoring six goals, but his antics are rubbing some up the wrong way.

Wesley Sneijder and Goran Pandev both looked frustrated after Eto'o sent another shot wide against Roma on Saturday evening.

Speaking after Inter's 1-0 defeat, Douglas Maicon said: “I saw a little egoism up front.”

Rafa Benitez has a crisis on his hands ahead of this week's clash with Werder Bremen, as Diego Milito and Goran Pandev are unfit.

Milito has a muscle strain in his right leg while Pandev has a badly bruised ankle.

La Gazzetta dello Sport understands Benitez will play Sneijder behind Eto'o in a 4-4-1-1.

Gents, no word back from Dejan? I emailed him but haven't got a reply. Hope everything is ok with him. We're doing a bit of a mod reshuffle at the moment in an attempt to bring a bit of fresh life to the forums (changing Milan and Roma mods), so let me know what you'd all like to do in here. If your happy with things as they now and want to keep Dejan as your mod (and indeed, if he wants to continue) its cool and no problems, but if someone else what like to step up to the role its also cool. Personally I think perhaps MI would bring a bit of energy and freshness to the role. As always, totally up to yourselves and whatever way you'd like to do things here in your forum is what shall be done. Sure let us know, thanks lads.

Zanetti aims to return against Juve

Inter captain Javier Zanetti says he would be like to be back in time for this weekend’s Derby d’Italia against Juventus.

The veteran Argentine was hospitalised after suffering a pain in his chest following Inter’s 2-1 win over Palermo on September 19.

He hasn’t played since, but aims to make his comeback sooner rather than later.

Speaking to Sky Italia, he said: “I am fine. I am recovered and I hope to be there against Juventus.”

Inter are unused to life without Zanetti, who has been at the club for a staggering 16 seasons.

In March this year he played his 137th consecutive game for the club in Serie A, making him an ever present for 12,707 minutes.

One question guys, why did Cordoba get the armband ahead of Cambiasso against Roma. I thought Cambiasso would be the direct replacement as leader of the side once Zanetti retires?
