When i said team, I meant more in the sense that he has always been a key figure for numerous coaches and 'their' teams.

Perhaps if James was watching that first-half closely it might explain Perrotta's importance to this team. His work-rate and energy and tracking up and down that left hand side has been phenomenal, like it always is. Yeh, he may feck up the odd time when he gets in an advance position and look like a dope when the camera is on him for the replay, but there is more to the game than that. Maicon who?

Solid enough first-half. I feared they were going to open us up earlier on but we held out very well and gradually start to build. We're not over-committing bodies to attacks but thats understandable I suppose. Hopefully we'll take the game by the cuff more in the second-half.

Up to the 20th minute, the most telling points for me were first, Lobont's fine double block early on, and then Lucio kicking the back of Borriello's head. My ass was twittering when I saw both he and Riise down, in pain, given our recent injuries...

I agree Perrotta has worked hard and was unfortunate to not be able to beat Cesar to the ball from close in to score.

The Stankovic shot had me ready to spit fire but luckily it hit the crossbar.

Pizarro has definitely been our best player so far.

I suppose it was predictable in the second half that Inter would have the greater share of possession and would be the ones who would look more like scoring a goal. But Vučinić did what they didn't, and got the ball where it needed to go which is what counts! Totti clearly wasn't best pleased to be taken off to make way for him but he can't argue the point after seeing that lovely diving header by Vuci off De Rossi's assist! I wonder if our Capitan' was watching on the monitor in the locker room which is where he probably was, given that he didn't join his team mates on the bench.

All in all there were eight yellow cards yet it wasn't a dirty game as such. I thought Burdisso's booking was soft. It looked more like a pre-kiss hug, but technically, Morganti had to show the card! Ménez worked hard, never gave up trying, but his finishing seems to have slipped back to what it used to be, a far cry from the improvement of the pre-season friendlies!

On 76 mins my heart missed a beat when Juan's poor pass let Eto'o in and how lucky for us he blasted the ball over the bar.

Lobont got a good block on another Eto'o attempt five minutes later. That concerns me. I'm using the word "block" rather than save because he seems to have more faith in parrying the ball away rather trying to catch it. Tonight however, in his defence I have to concede he did the right thing. He could not risk failing to hold the ball, and to his credit, all his punches sent the ball out of immediate danger.

We all must have thought Big Fatso was getting a shot of the action, but then Baptista came on with Brighi instead. I wondered if our big beast was fated to score for us but as Ed remarked in an earlier post, " With Vuci on the bench, there is always hope!" It just had to be him to be the toast of the Olimpico this evening!

But...we have only won the battle, not the war as the old saying goes. Let's hope we can cope as well with first Cluj, then Napoli. It will be quite a week to come!

Lobont had a fine game and done everything that was required of him. Hopefully he can build on this performance. However, I still don't have total confidence in him and feel he will be prone to the odd howler every now and then, particularly under the high ball.

Totti's reaction to be subbed wasn't nice to see. He had a fine game and remains an important champion for us, but Ranieri has some serious thinking to do. I'm too fecked to get into it in detail right now but have more to say about it later.

EDIT: Stefano, I think it was yourself who first highlighted in the SB yesterday during the game that there was a problem with the commentary, in that it sounded like the commentator, Richard Wittle, was calling in over a phone, as in the sound quality was shite. I watching a re-run of the game now on TV on Setanta Sports, and it sounds exactly like that. So, I don't think it was a problem with a stream, but a fault in the actual commentary coverage.

Cracking game.

It was quite a spectacle from high up in the south east corner; thunder and lightning, Vucinic scoring in the last minute and watching the surge in the curva.

Pizzaro is even better than I thought he was.

Roma could have won comfortably had Borriello tried to get in front of his man (like Vucinic did for the goal) on some of the many times Menez skinned Chivu and put decent balls in, instead of waiting at the back post on his heels.
