All this talk of Naples reminds me of a (now) funny experience I had there. My wife and I were on a tour of Italia in July of 2001 for our honeymoon. We had stopped at a glassworks factory on the outskirts of Naples. Me blissfully (dangerously) unaware of the intricacies of Italian football rivalries was wearing my newly purchased Roma jersey - Totti No. 10 of course. I am standing talking to my wife when I hear flick,flick,flick behind me. I turn around and one of the factory workers on a smoke break is half pretending to set my jersey on fire. He leans in close and said in English "I HATE your shirt! I don't hate you but I HATE your shirt!" Needless to say I covered it up with my jacket and melted for the rest of the day (it was 35 degrees celsius that day)

As far as this North and South divide is concerned the Italian half of my family is from San Romano in Garfagnana in Tuscany and I found when I was over there that from Tuscany and down I found the people to be friendlier and more welcoming. I didn't like Milan at all I found the Milanese to be very rude. I didn't make it any farther south than Capri. I am considering when my daughter is a little older to go on holiday in Calabria. They were advertising heavily over here with Rino Gattuso as the official spokes person. Your post on how welcoming the Calebrese are has really made me want to go there Gio.
