Yep, Burdisso official this morning –  – so we paid €8m for him? Cunning ploy on our part, to hold off right until the last minute and get the price reduced to… er… So why the fuck did we not just pay the €8m for him a month or two ago so he could be part of pre-season? Idiots.

Fahad, let Bagg laugh just now. We know Aqui is made of glass, as Deini also points out, but on the Doni thing, I'm wondering if we may yet keep him since Lobont obviously can't handle the pressure of the big occasions. Damn but this is what the Australians refer to as "Buckley's Choice!" That aside, we know JS is called for the squad this evening but Doni will play.

Lupa, I finally took your advice and got hdmi, not just the HD tv. Trouble is that having given up the ripoff British priced Sky Italia and gone for the Rai/Mediaset owned TivuSat instead, I now have to also return to BSkyB. Both combined are still cheaper than what we pay here for Sky Italia alone and considerably cheaper than their hdmi version ($2453 Canadian p/a) Trouble is the UK version of ESPN on BSkyB which covers Serie A I don't think is hi-def...still, it's better than 'net feeds! But I won't have the BSkyB installed until next week so I may miss our opening match tonight. Worse things happen at sea as the saying goes...I am fully capable of installing the receiver (and a lot more) but BSkyB won't let me have a box unless it's installed by one of their own, or at least an approved outside "technician" and i say that laughingly! It's not as if I'm even paying an installation fee because I'm subscribing to enough of a package to avoid charges. Damn pests! I could have had it all done by now!

Looks like OmniSport lost the rights to Serie A. There are no listings for any of this weekends matches. I know Bet365 shows them but I liked that you could watch in full screen without hickups. For the big games it was worth $5.99.



I am gonna have to get Sky with ESPN. The last time I saw Roma on the telly was when they played Arsenal! Too long!

I'm not keen on the sharing option, I've seen it in practice and you are dependent upon others to want to watch the same things you do and you have to continually switch viewing groups.

As you may know there are various other methods all involving having a receiver permanently connected to your PC.

In the UK and Ireland the cable systems have been hacked for ages and you can get a "hookey" box, but that just gives you the BSkyB packages though it must be said, pretty damn cheaply!

We should open a thread on this subject and those who are interested can compare notes...

edzo, whether it's strictly true or not, the official line is that the club didn't have the money to be able to offer 8 mil earlier in the summer. They thought 5.5 was a fair offer and was as much as they could muster. Then with the sale of Cerci going through (and there was some comment about an extra effort made by the bank to release some funds) we were in a position to raise our offer. This may not be the truth but it's entirely logical. Until Cerci was sold, then, we couldn't have matched Inter's demands (which is also entirely of a piece with the emphasis that we couldn't raise our offer unless we managed to sell Baptista).

What's the plan tonight? 4-1-4-1, with Vooch-Simone-DDR-Menez in front of Pizza and behind Totti? Surely we have to play this way having offloaded Cerci and Guberti now? Or, more to my liking, 4-3-1-2 with Menez through the middle? In practice, I suspect those two alternatives are less different than they might look. I was too busy chatting to 'tec to get a proper sense of how we were set out against Sphincter (he was too busy pretending to chat to me while checking out the sensational pair to our left).

Grazie, Chewna. That was how romanews were projecting our line-up earlier in the week. Genoa are top - let's hope not for more than a couple of hours (if we can't win, the least we can do is lose by a couple to allow Cesena the distinction for a night).

Carlo, with all due respect, it strikes me as quite insane that you're prepared to draw such bold conclusions about Lobont on the basis (or so it seems) of one game. I always think that, in general, tifosi are more terrible judges of 'keepers than of any other position.

Tom, your probably right about the Burdisso situation, but the whole episode of trying to sign the only player the manager requested was so drawn-out and so tit-for-tat it was shambolic, especially for a such a big club who is competing in the CL and supposedly aiming for the scudetto.

Anyway, on to tonights game, will it be a 4-1-4-1 considering we are at home and against a team who are likely to pack their defence and keep things tighter than Maro's moglie? I think we'll see Vuc and Menez much higher up in the pitch.
