It does, Tomzo, I agree. It is a rather shite piece of writing. I wish we set up the ability for blog entries here, it would be perfect for this type of subject.

I beleive I started the comparison with Gemany purely to use an example. I could have used France, England or Holland as an example of integrating players who arent purely French, English or Dutch but I chose Germany since it's more 'trendy'. Certainly Italy didnt have it's colonies like the aforementioned countries did in the past (unless one is willing to go back to the Romans..), and therefore it is certainly more difficult to have players with some connection to Italy. However many Argentinians for example have Italian background, some Brazilians too and nowadays many north-African or eastern European people are flowing into the country.
The point of all this is that this is something new, and in 5-10 years time, there will be more of the Balotelli type applicable for the Italian NT. The idea is to think about that future now. Integrating now, have the Italians accustomed to this situation now so that in 5-10 years time these people will be better accepted. And I'm saying this is to be done now also because Germany is the envy of most other nations. A German side with 11 not-pure German blood has accepted by everyone without problem, without the need to do what you did Maro and wiki their birthplace or blood line.

I don't understand the point you're making Lomba. It seems to me you run the risk of slipping between two quite distinct points: first, that there are non-Italians with Italian links who might be able to incorporated within the football team and, secondly, that the make-up of Italian society is about to change. Surely it's a logical inevitability that as the make-up of Italian society changes the make-up of its football team will change as will the make-up of its football fans? Quite why there would be any need for pre-emptive, programmatic action here (other than at grass-roots level), I don't understand.

The reasoning I am making is that up till a month ago, I was against Oriundi joining the NT unless they had Italian blood or at least born in Italy. But I got to see the way the Germans changed skin in order not to lose their competitivity (10-15 years ago, German football was on a decline) and I'll be honest to say I quite liked the result. I mean, I didnt need to see what their blood-line was or where they're born to consider them Germans.
Italian mentality on this subject is quite different, currently but mainly it is because there are just a few Oriundi who can actually make this team better. In the near future, due to the current immigration problems from Eastern-Europeans and Africans, these people will settle in Italy and their sons, if talented will ant to play for Italy, just like Balotelli or Okaka. Nowadays these 'type' of players are looked at with diffidence within the nation, but we need to take a step forward, incorporate these kind of players and in the future this situation will be better accepted.
In other words, we incorporate the few Oriundi currently able to play at this level now, have the general public accept this idea and in the future more young kids with dual-passport will think twice before chosing their NT. Of course I am not saying this is the solution for all our problems, but rather a part of the solution.

Using Serafino Ingardia's logic, only native Americans should represent the USA at international sporting events. Mesut Ozil is as German as Oliver Kahn, Mario Gomez is as Spanish as Robert Aquafresca is Polish, Balotelli is more Italian than he is Ghanaian, and Ingardia as shown himself to be racist (using the definition of racism as Discrimination or prejudice based on race).

He even makes the statement While six of the above mentioned players have every right to play for Germany since they were born in the country, in which case why even mention them and suggest that they have as many German links as a plate of spaghetti? Very disappointing article.
