How would that make us look if we swapped a total dunce of a presidente for someone who does more fiddling than Yehudi Menuhin?

UniCredit, Sensi Family May Agree on Roma Deal by Thursday, Sole Reports

The Sensi family may agree to hand over ownership of Compagnia Italpetroli SpA, which controls soccer club AS Roma SpA, to lender UniCredit SpA by July 8, Il Sole 24 Ore reported, without saying where it got the information.

Over four hours of talks were not enough to find a solution: they will reconvene on 8 July at 6:00 pm. Ruperto's words: "It's only a suspension. Have we avoided arbitration? Let's hope so." And CONSOB, Italy's securities regulator, has asked the club for a statement by tomorrow morning to avoid sudden changes in the share price on the Stock Exchange.

ROME, 5 July 2010 - A day of meetings, talk, agreements and friction. In the end it was decided that further talks would be held on Thursday at 6:00 pm, following which it seems highly likely that we will know what Roma's future company structure will be. The day had begun with a two and a quarter hour long meeting between the parties in Prof. Ruperto's office in the Corso Francia area, with Rosella Sensi once again face to face with Unicredit's number three Piergiorgio Peluso. The parties then met again at 6:40 pm to resume the talks, while on the Stock Exchange Roma's shares had risen a significant 7.17%, but two hours later the postponement was announced.

STATEMENT TOMORROW — In order to avoid any sudden changes in the share price, CONSOB, Italy's securities regulator, this evening asked Roma to issue a statement before the Stock Exchange reopens in Piazza Affari. The note will therefore arrive early tomorrow morning, and we will probably learn some more about what happened today.

RUPERTO'S HOPES — Leaving the meeting, Cesare Ruperto, the chairman of the arbitration board charged with resolving the issue related to Italpetroli's debt of over 325 million euros, was at pains to explain that "this is not a postponement but a suspension, we will adjourn until Thursday because we have other commitments until then." But when he was asked if arbitration had been avoided he looked skywards and said: "Let's hope so... Until I sign I'm not ruling anything out, but there is full cooperation between the three parties." And again: "We hoped we would finish, but it did not work out that way. There is no disagreement, but everything needs to be finalised. We hoped we would finish in half an hour, but it did not work out that way. I am confident that everything can be settled on Thursday."

AVOIDING ARBITRATION — If agreement is reached on Thursday, avoiding risky arbitration, the Sensi family according to the rumours would hold on to their family residence and other real estate for around 25-30 million. Then the lending institution would need to name an advisor, someone who would enhance Roma's value and manage its sale to a new buyer or group of buyers.

SENSI MANAGEMENT — The Sensi family has managed the Giallorosso club for 17 years: firstly the father Franco, who died in 2008 after managing Roma for 15 years, and then for the last two years his daughter Rosella. It has been a major chapter in the club's history, with tremendous victories and painful defeats, some great signings and some gaping holes in the balance sheet. Franco Sensi bought the club together with Massimo Mezzaroma to save it from Giuseppe Ciarrapico's failed management, and in November 1983 he became the sole shareholder. His reign continued until 18 August 2008, when the president died at the age of 82. The high point of his fifteen years was winning the scudetto in 2001, the third time Roma had done so. But they were also fifteen years of disagreement with the Italian football hierarchy and with some clubs in the north (Milan and Juve), with Luciano Moggi and Adriano Galliani. Roma's 18th president also won two Italian Super Cups (2001 and 2007) and twice won the Coppa Italia (2006-2007 and 2007-2008). The team finished second five times (once by court ruling after Calciopoli). In 2008 the championship was lost to Inter on the final day amid much controversy. The outcome of this year's title race was similar.

ROSELLA TAKES OVER — Following Franco Sensi's death, his daughter Rosella took over the running of the club. She was 36 at the time, already the managing director, and she also became the president of Italpetroli. Rosella inherited a good team, but also a very high level of debt to Unicredit, given that president Sensi had used many of the family's own assets to keep financing Roma. Talk of selling Roma to repay the debt began in 2008, but despite mention of Russian, Arab and American buyers, and the names of George Soros and the FIFA agent Vincio Fioranelli, nothing came of it. In 2009 the fans erupted in protest; at the end of the last championship the coach Luciano Spalletti was sacked and replaced by the Roman Claudio Ranieri. Under his guidance Roma were in title contention right up to the last day before conceding to Josè Mourinho's outstanding Inter.

ALEMANNO WAITS — The mayor of Rome Gianni Alemanno has expressed some concern about Roma's current situation: "This is the most delicate time: if Roma in fact becomes the property of a bank, we will need to be careful to ensure that the team and the club are preserved." Alemanno said he had "spoken with Unicredit several times" and that he had been clear, having "given this same message to all those who have put themselves forward as possible buyers." However, he said in closing, "we cannot interfere with the financial workings of the club, because it is listed on the Stock Exchange. If there are favourable circumstances for other buyers we will highlight them, but we will always seek to confirm that they are focused on the team and on its ability to do well in the next championship."

Also, the other side of this mess is how its going to effect the team as it stands now and how Ranieri is meant to build a side capable of facing tougher challenges this season. Pre-season training in Brunico starts next week (list of players called – Loria is back), yet I think its fair to say all future mercato dealings are on hold until the situation is resolved one way or another, so we're stuck as we are. And yet if, as expected, Compagnia Italpetroli and Roma are handed over to UniCredit on Thursday (and thats not including more delays and stand-offs and even the very real worry of going to arbitration), Roma will then be in ownership of the banks, with no concrete buyer on the blocks. How will we proceed like that, then, and for how long will it take for one of ours potential buyers to make a firm move for the club? It is all very uncertain and very dangerous waters and who knows how long it could take before it is all sorted out.

fAtdriano trained at Trigoria this morning (eventually, anyway, some are saying he was a little late as he slept in). He doesn't look too fat, I don't think, its just the jersey. I mean, I have the same jersey which I were to football and it looks a little tight on me, too, but thats just the material and shape of the jersey, I'm sure.
