Here we go with Prandelli. His interviews show yet again that he "talks" a good game. We've seen it before from him, stating the obvious as his promises for the future, which makes him consistent in my eyes as a "nearly" man, one who can't quite go all the way.

Don't get me wrong, I like the fact he will give our young bloods their chance, and also those established stars who ought to have had more of a bite at the cherry before now, including Oriundi though I hope that means the likes of Thiago Motta more than Amauri if we must go down that road!

To quote Campanale to whom I wouldn't usually give daylight in a dark corner, yet who by the law of averages has to get it right once in a while, "How sad that such a concept has started to look revolutionary from a new Italy Coach!" This is what I mean by Prandelli unfortunately for us not being another Azeglio Vicini as he leads us through our post Lippi period of transition or rebuilding as it were. Vicini in the post Bearzot era was a different prospect though in fairness most probably a one-off and therefore unfair comparison.

Gigi Buffon will go under the knife in the hope of sorting his back out to allow him to play properly for another while which means some of our Euro 2012 campaign including the finals. I'm glad because if Prandelli is considering Marchetti's standard as being an acceptable substitute in the interim, I'd venture to suggest he could do worse than give Julio Sergio Bertagnoli a shot as he is arguably better. It will also be interesting to see if Sirigu is given a chance.

Perhaps someone can correct me here if it's necessary. It would appear that Prandelli's intention, all being well, is to make Buffon our capitano when he is once again fit. So with the De Rossi statement does that mean he considers a "broken" captaincy term with Daniele as a stand-in until Gigi returns, then again after Euro 2012 as the full-time successor?

We will soon see on August 10th with the friendly against the Ivory Coast. Apparently the FIGC had problems lining up a worthwhile opponent. Why in hell choose Craven Cottage as a venue though? Well, at least it's a match I can conceivably go to, depending on tickets of course.

It would be silly to announce De Rossi as the captain only to full back on Gigi when he does come back. Anywho, I do hope De Rossi stays as the Azzurri's Capitano! I look forward to this upcoming generation and the post Lippi era. The Ivory Coast match would be a decent spectical, and hopefully marks the return of Cassano. With the Italian foreign player talk, I don't mind the introduction of Thiago Motta for the simple fact that he would be a decent addition and able to play for us during the upcoming Euros as well as the next World Cup, being only 27. On the other hand, Amauri (if introduced) would only last the next Euros, if that.

Maybe we should accept Oriundi into our squad....seeing how well it has worked for Germany.

Klose, Podolski, Trochowski, Ozil, Khedira, Cacau, Tasci, Boateng, etc...

I think the Germanitas of players like Oezil [sic], Podolski, Klose, etc. is perhaps of a different kind from the Italianitas of someone like Amauri. Germany has a rather different cultural and geographical relationship with Poland and Turkey than Italy does with Brazil, no?

Marko Marin was born in Bosnia, Jerome Boateng is of Ghanian descent and Dennis Aogo is of Nigerian descent. In Italy its unlikely these players would be called up, but there is no problem with it and I don't see anything wrong with a nation calling up a player who is entitled to play for them under current rules.

So, if Wiki can be trusted, Jerome Boateng was born in Germany and has a German mother; Marin moved to Germany with his family when he was 2; and Aogo was born in Germany. All three, it would seem, have had their entire football training within Germany. Khedira was born in Germany and has a German mother. Cacau is the one exception here, having become eligible on the basis of residency having lived in Germany for the past 9 years having moved there to play football as a 20-year-old. The rest are all Germans in what seems to me an almost entirely unambiguous way. They are entirely different from what I understand people to mean when they speak of "Oriundi" in an Italian football context.
