i don't think 'immature' was meant as a case for a players personality as it was meant to describe a players' quality.

giovinco has horrible decision making skills on the ball. there are at least 4 italians in front of him for the role of fantasista; cassano, miccoli, balotelli (sort of) and pepe rossi.

i can't really see giovinco getting into the azzuri squad for the euros, and i wouldn't bet on it for the world cup either.

actually, i don't really see giovinco getting into the juventus squad either.

what prandelli needs to do is pray that players like aquilani and d'agostino can step up in their respective clubs. when you have quality players like that in the middle, they won't need much support from the forwards in maintaining possession which helps the forwards focus on getting open in attacking areas and working their magic from there.

italy has a remarkable set of quality midfielders that just have to be used properly; on a club level and the international level. lets hope prandelli can set his italy down a clear and precise goal.

It all comes back to another of Lippi's errors: the mis-use of friendlies. He preferred to award players like Maresca and Pellissier with caps for a fine season than actually experiment with players who may realistically be of use to the team.

What we must remember is that there are many ways to win a football match and considerably more than skill alone is involved.

The higher the stakes, the more unscrupulous the opposition's tactics become and they don't by any means always have to resort to bookable offences to stop Giovinco from being an influence on a game. I feel for guys like that, so much talent but only able to be effective with it under certain circumstances and I imagine that's probably why Juve are considering letting him go.


As for Moggi and his incessant comments on matters he is no longer a part of...he has plenty of other concerns with which to occupy himself, his entertainment business involvement for one. He can never return to il calcio no matter how it may please him to think otherwise...even in Italy the sun cannot rise in the west! It's a shame he didn't think to show more of his Dr. Jekyll qualities to us all than his infinitely more sinister Mr Hyde. As a transfers guru he was second to none, and if he hadn't gone from the sublime to the ridiculous in wanting to be seen as il padrino di calcio, we may just have accepted him as being a man who could get the job done.

there's a reason why he excelled in the u21. because its u21... i'm not saying he's a bad player. but he makes some pretty stupid decisions on the ball.

Danny-boy, I think you're confusing what we mean when we speak of Giovinco's decision-making: he's technically a better player than Pepe, but he's a much less 'accurate one'. Most of the time Pepe does the right thing; his problem is that he doesn't always do it well enough. At Roma, two of the most 'accurate' players in terms of their decision-making, I think, are Tonetto and Taddei; this doesn't mean they don't both have their own limitations as players, but their decision-making is usually very good (except for those frequent occasions when Taddei decides to roll around like he's been shot in the nuts). It's been ages since I last saw Giovinco play, but I'm not sure he plays with his head up as much as he needs to and his decisions over when to push for the killer-ball and when to keep it simple are not accurate enough for me. In terms of decision-making, he's light-years behind every one of those players you've picked out: decision-making's probably the only thing Iaquinta has going for him (in terms of movement of the ball rather than passing-range when on it).

Pepe had his chance and was technically poor....aswell as whoefully Inaccurate!
He blew it.
The performance and the result prove the point.
Same with Iaquinta.
Gilardino had absolutely no presense up front.

So far Giovinco has not been given that chance
All i am asking is that Giovinco be given that opportunity as the above clowns who failed Italy.
If he blows it....fair enough....he will be deemed not good enough.
But if he pulls it off ...Italy can have their own Messi!.

Apart from the quality of an individual player.....the other important factor is the interaction between players.
Giovinco playing with Iaquinta will not work because Iaquinta does not make any kind of intelligent runs so he can recieve that defence splitting pass(that someone like Giovinco can provide)

Giovinco playing with someone like Cassano,Rossi or Balotelli would be way more productive...because those players are not only mobile....but they make provocative runs that give options to the likes of Giovinco to provide that through pass.
