Firstly, there is no evidence to support the claim that Roma is subsidising Italpetroli, secondly, it is extremely unlikely that the relatively modest sums Roma generate would be of any practical help to Italptreoli, and thirdly, it is still May, the squad reconvenes in mid-July, leaving at least 2 months to complete the mercarto, so writing off this summer's transfers is premature in the extreme.

Gio, Giacomo, Ed, & Deini, I'm really wondering just what our club's stance will prove to be over Mexes who again insists he wants to stay with Roma. We know Rosella is depending upon his sale to pay bills, at very least to cover club expenditure. AS Roma as a business ran at a profit this past season and club money should only therefore be reinvested in the team or at worst utilised to cover club affairs which we suspect, and with good reason, may not however be the case!

It's possible Mexes could actually demand under the terms of his contract with us to stay, though in terms of being frozen out he would be foolish to do so.

Reading a little more about him, I'm seeing it's not by any means just his contract and his liking of our club which makes him want to stay. His partner is Italian and obviously his little family has started to spread roots in the city of Roma which would account for his saying, "Why should I move?" On humanitarian grounds he has my sympathy if not necessarily in a business sense. It may however be we will lose Burdisso and Motta on the altar of having Eboue, Gallas,(again!) and retaining Mexes! I don't even want to let my mind wander down the road of whom else could be sacrificed should Mexes be kept!

As if these aren't bad enough breaks! Just as I was coming to accept having to regard this World Cup as a "throwaway" in an Italian sense, consoling myself that after Lippi we might just get someone to give us something to be happy about as we prepare for Euro 2012...what do we hear? We have it confirmed we will have to suffer quel buon inutile per niente Prandelli as CT! From the frying pan to the fire...

We do not know whether Mexes will leave if Gallas signs because we do not know whether Roma can buy Burdisso from Inter. While there is agreement between the player and Roma, getting agreement with Inter should not be taken for granted, particularly because last summer there was no option to buy in the contract which brought him to Roma on loan because of a dispute over his valuation.

I expect Roma does have a transfer budget this summer, which is why there are links to players such as Sanchez and Isla.

De Rossi and Ranieri have already said in public that a stronger squad is necessary for a season including CL football and the indications so far are that Roma is working to deliver that squad. By the beginning of August we will be better placed to judge.

By the way, the likelihood of Vucinic being sold is the same as that of De Rossi: 0%.

I foresee that Motta will leave. Andreolli is mentioned to be exchanged with Zaccardo from Parma. And Sao Paolo wants Cicinho and is offering a central defender as a replacement since they don't have money. If Roma is smart they take Miranda from Sao Paolo. If he comes and Burdisso you can bet that they will ship out Mexes to the highest bidder. Sad to see him go but that is the scenario I see regarding the defense this summer mercato.

And a mercato budget? That one is not yet set. And it's n ice to see us linked with Isla and Sanchez and countless of other players but don't get your hopes up. All depends if we have a budget is off the sales of Mexes, Doni and Baptista. Or maybe more then 50% will be used to pay the loans (like with the Aquilani sale) and to reinvest in Sensi's debts.

Prandelli seems like a good choice for the Nazionale imo.

I see James here remains an apologist for Rosella. It is real simple James; Roma has restrictions on what it can spend, period. There is no borrowing allowed to buy players or even pay wages. Roma has no lines of credit, and no ability to secure financing without the direct approval of Unicredit, which, as you know, hold 49% of the shares in Ip, which controls Roma. Roma is an asset that can be sold to pay off Ip's debts. Therefore, a debt free, financially healthy Roma makes it a better asset than say, a debt laden club that loses money. Everyone knows that Jimmy. Therefore, what Edzo said is absolutely correct. Ip's financial problems has a direct effect on how Roma is operated.

We have been over this ground a thousand times and I'm not sure any of us has the strength to get into further specifics. One thing I can say is that Rosella and her sisters will never really have to work for a living. They are set up for life.

Decent player. Attack minded central midfielder. Technically competent and makes some nice runs into the box.

I hope you sign him, because I don't really want him to go to Rangers or Celtic.

I'm trying to find a report of our interest in this Joe Ledley on one of the Roma news sites, but can't see anything yet which suggests he is traveling to Roma to discuss a move like that BBC article does. God, I hope thats not true. Just when you think Roma's summer mercato's can't get any worse, we find ourselves competing with British heavyweights Celtic, Rangers, Blackburn and Wigan to sign some anonymously weird wangly Welsh winger named Joey Ledley.

But its ok though, as Jamie says there's still over two months left to complete in this mercato, so I'm sure we'll sign Dzeko or Cardozo and Ribery or Afellay to make it all better.

James' view is great.

Just because Roma have sold an important player every summer for several seasons, doesn't mean they will do it again this season, despite the fact that nothing has changed in terms of their financial situation.

I wish I could have such a blindly optimistic outlook on life.

Roma is auto-financed, it spends what it earns which will also be the norm for clubs playing in CL/EL after last week's decision by UEFA. This way Roma is protected from incurring debts which jeopardise its existence. The kind which is engulfing many clubs across Europe and which will - from 2012/13 - make clubs ineligigble for CL/EL udner UEFA's new licencing regime. I would like evidence to be presented which proves that Roma is subsidising Italpetroli.

The important players Roma sold since 2007 were not sold because they were not offered new contracts but because they requested a contract which they did not deserve and they were all replaced by players who proved to be at least as good, sometimes better. Aquilani's case was different.

If Mexes is sold it will not be a sacrifice to help Italpetroli, on the contrary, it will be to raise investment which will be plouged back into the team. It will be a strategic business decision, and there is a clear strategic reason in favour of selling Mexes, although that remains an open question at the moment because of other ongoing issues which are related to it, namely the futures of Burdisso and Gallas. I am pleased that Roma's mamangement, unlike some people here, are not letting sentimentality determine their mercato decisions. I prefer a more business-like approach.

Today is 1 June, the mercato closes on 31 August, that leaves up to 3 months, preferably 2, to complete the mercato. It is not possible to brand this summer's mercato a failure until at least the beginning of August. You are being way too hasty.
