The Italian media insist Fabio Capello could go to Inter with just a £4m buy-out clause from his England contract.

President Massimo Moratti has named Capello as one of the primary candidates to replace Jose Mourinho at San Siro next season.

Don Fabio’s contract with the England FA runs until the summer of 2012, but Lord Triesman’s sudden resignation increases the uncertainty.

New FA general secretary tender Alex Horne is set to meet the Italian to discuss what happens after the World Cup.

Capello had been reportedly ready to scrap the buy-out clause in his contract and took out a verbal agreement with Lord Triesman, but with his departure there is nothing written down and Inter aim to take advantage.

José Mourinho completes switch to Real Madrid from Inter

José Mourinho was presented at the Santiago Bernabéu as the new coach of Real Madrid today, after signing a four-year deal with the Spanish side. The Portuguese coach moves from Internazionale, where he helped guide the side to a Coppa Italia, Serie A and Champions League treble-winning campaign. Mourinho, who becomes Real's ninth coach in six years, replaces Manuel Pellegrini, who was sacked after just one season in charge.

"Mourinho has signed a contract for four seasons," confirmed the Real sporting director, Jorge Valdano. "It's an honour to have with us one of the most prestigious coaches in the world. We are delighted to have him here. The best thing for our club right now, is to have Mourinho with us."

Mourinho, 47, terminated his contract with Inter last week after two seasons at the club. Real have paid Inter a reported €8m (£6.8m) in compensation.

Mourinho said: "I don't know if I was born to coach Real Madrid but I was born to be a football coach. I love important challenges. I am José Mourinho and I don't change. I arrive with all my qualities and my defects. My attraction to Real Madrid is due to its history, its frustrations in recent years and its expectations to win. It's a unique club and I believe that not to coach Real leaves a void in a coach's career.

"Luckily, I've had a beautiful career and it makes me proud to have come here. I am very enthusiastic. I want my players to think that way. The beauty is not so much to train or play at Real, but to win at Real Madrid."

Real parted company with Pellegrini last week after a disappointing campaign. They lost out to Barcelona in the title race, despite amassing a club-record points haul, and were knocked of the Champions League at the last-16 stage for the sixth season in a row.

"I think a coach needs to be ready to be sacked," Mourinho said. "But if a coach fears that, he doesn't work well and has great problems. I am a coach that has a lot of self-esteem and confidence and I don't think about the possibility of being sacked.

"I think four years of contract is enough to win, to build a strong team for the present and the future. The sacking of Pellegrini doesn't make me happy. I am never happy when a coach is sacked. But football is like that. I have a lot of confidence in my players; I have the hope that my new players have confidence in me."

Mourinho shed little light on what changes he will bring to Real, or his transfer objectives, but outlined his vision for the future of the club, stressing the importance of the team alongside star names such as Cristiano Ronaldo.

"It's too early to speak about changes," he said. "I believe it's time to analyse the situation, to get to know my club, ask lots of questions and get answers. I need to realise the direction of my work. The most important thing is not the coach or the players but the club. We are too small compared to the dimension of the club. If we work as a group, it's not difficult to get results.

"I want this group to have an identity, to win everything. The strength of my team is always the team and not the individuals. Cristiano Ronaldo is an incredible player not only for Real but for the whole of football. Cristiano is a winner and it's not difficult to persuade him of this.

"I don't like to talk about players because their prices will go up if I do. The club is happy with the roster of last season and so am I. We don't need major changes. We need three or four players to have more possibilities to get closer to my ideal of a team. "But I don't think it's going to be a summer with a lot of changes. I think it will be a more calm summer with all the focus on the World Cup."

When asked if this was his biggest career challenge, Mourinho replied: "I cannot say this is the biggest motivation in my career. My biggest ambition is always the next one. Right now it is Real Madrid.

"I don't change my level of ambition or motivation. I gave everything to every club where I have been and I will do the same here. I don't feel any kind of different pressure. I am a coach that improves day by day. I arrive with everything a coach can win in club football."

Speaking of arch-rivals Barcelona, Mourinho said: "I am not anti-Barcelona. I am coach of Real but Barça doesn't worry me. My only concern is to grow Real. Barça are great rivals and we respect them. If I am hated at Barcelona, it is their problem but not mine. Fear is not a word in my football dictionary."

The former Chelsea manager had kind words for Inter, the club he left after two successful seasons at the helm. "I hope my former players can win everything in Italy but not the Champions League," he said. "I cannot forget the group that I've had. Inter has a team for the future.

"They will need a quality coach and the coach that arrives will need to be intelligent and follow the path he needs to follow. Whoever arrives will be lucky because they will get the chance to play in three finals, the Italian Supercup, European Supercup and World Club tournament – a present I have left."

It's all speculation atm. Whether he is commited or not. IMO, it comes down to how England perform. If they reach the final, they will keep him. Anything less, he may be given the boot.

I don't think he'll be able to take both roles so it's one or the other. The only good thing so far is he hasn't ruled out wanting to coach us so it's either a. he wants to get out after the world cup or b. he'll use the situation to milk more money from the FA. I just want the result to come as quick as possible so we can focus elsewhere if need be, not that there is much elsewhere tbh.

About Benitez, I've had a rethink on this. He uses the 4-2-3-1 system which we agree is our best formation and he's a good tactician but the only thing that lets him down is his ridiculous transfers even though he's had the dough to bring in a lot of players. How Lucas, Insua etc make it in his team is bewildering but if he comes to Inter, it's a given that no player comes in unless Branca and Oriali give the ok so with that in mind, he doesn't seem as bad as before. Still, 16mil to buy him out of his contract is absurd and unless it's halved, I wouldn't pay it.

Btw, does anyone know what's become of Mou's team? His assistant coaches etc? Haven't heard much about them..

Yes if Capello & Hiddink fail, its obvious our next objective would have to be Benitez...He's an excellent tactician but I'm not sure how he does cope with champions....We need someone champions fear, like Mou was & Capello is much more than we need an excellent tactician, but it is obvious there's not much going around.
Dejan I beleive Mou's staff followed him to Madrid. He doesnt leave without them, though I admit I havent heard anything about them.

Zanetti: 'Milito will stay'

Inter captain Javier Zanetti has no doubt that Diego Milito will stay at San Siro amid interest from Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid.

The 30-year-old Argentine striker scored 22 goals in Serie A this season, as well as two in the Champions League Final last month.

Jose Mourinho has admitted that he would like to sign him for Real Madrid, but acknowledges that Milito is now part of Inter's history.

Milito hasn't exactly discouraged Mourinho's interest, leading to speculation about his future with the Champions League winners.

MI, I do plan to update my sig, but unfortunately that damned 'Tec is currently on vacation or something, so I gotta wait.

You guys know anything about this Aguirregaray (this guy will take me some time to learn his name properly...)? Heard about him, but I dont have any real info.. Without Maicon we'll have Santon, Aguirregaray & there is always Zanetti. But I dont beleive there is any other RB in the world who could actually substitute Maicon. So just like Mourinho, we may find an alternative but it will never be of the same category.
It seems like today, we have officialy made contact with Guus' agent, who in turn advised we should contact the Turkish federation...
