Incidentally, there wasn't a hint of sarcasm in my post about bringing the Roma kids back and building the side around them regardless of the results. I'm sick of football's culture. I'd like to see a Roma side built around Roma youth products regardless of the consequences. At least I could then watch the team with an uncompromisable pride and affection. Then it'd be about something more than winning and losing - something more important and more serious and more valuable.

Guys, I have to say I also would very much like to see a young and mostly Italian Roma side rise from all of this. A new beginning so to speak. But...in this day and age? I too have to say I doubt it, more's the pity.

Still. Okaka wants to come back and that's something. Sorrentino has been approached by us and though he does not want to be our second choice, it will be interesting to see just what Ranieri does for him with the rotation system if the transfer happens.

On Adriano...what's this with the media saying he has told his friends he is waiting for Roma to come calling? The impressions we've been given led us to believe he or at least his agent had already been contacted!

If it were my decision I would do my best to field an all Italian side. I maintain that it can be done even in this age of calcio. We do not need an Adriano on the team and Sorrentino does not really want to be the 2nd keeper. Just bring Curci back and we should be fine. I still believe we need to get better defensively. Dealing Mexes will not help the cause.

Giampaolo Montali, coordinatore generale della Roma, ospite della trasmissione televisiva "Parla con me" in onda stasera su Rai3 ha raccontato la stagione della squadra e il secondo posto finale: "Siamo orgogliosi, fieri, della nostra cavalcata visto che per 30-40 minuti siamo anche stati campioni d'Italia. Il vero vincitore della stagione è Ranieri che ha fatto 80 punti con due gare in meno". Montali ha inoltre confermato che la società ha intenzione di tenere nella rosa il francese Mexes: "Phlippe è un patrimonio della Roma e la società non ha alcuna intenzione di privarsene". Lo stesso dirigente è tornato poi sul caso Totti-Balotelli: "La migliore risposta l'ha data Francesco dicendo che ha sbagliato. Ogni volta che succede qualcosa con Francesco viene messa sotto la lente d'ingrandimento, ma trovo imbarazzante criticarlo come persona. Se c'e' una persona che non e' razzista, ma anzi generosa con tutti, quella è proprio Francesco". Montali ha detto la sua anche su Lazio-Inter: "Credo che l'Inter sia stata in imbarazzo, parlando con mio figlio di 12 anni che fa il portiere e gli spiegavo perchè i tifosi della Lazio fischiavano il proprio portiere anche io mi sentivo in imbarazzo. E' stata la cosa più brutta dell'Olimpico in quel giorno".

"Mexes is heritage of Roma and the society does not have the intention of selling him". Great news, although his buy-out clause may say otherwise, if someone were to match it.

Why do non-Romans/non-Italians bother whether Roma has lots of Italians/Romans in their team?

I love it when Aberdeen have lots of Scottish players, and the more Aberdonians we have the better, but I am from Aberdeen, so there is a link.

One of my favourite Aberdeen games was when we got a result in Ukraine to progress in the UEFA Cup with a team that was all Scottish and had seven players who had come through the club's youth teams in the starting XI.
