Inzaghi wants one more season at Milan

AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi has insisted that he wants to stay at the club so that he can beat Marco Van Basten's club scoring record - despite the Dutchman being in line to be coach at the San Siro side next season.

Inzaghi told Football Italia: "I want to stay because I want to score one more goal in Europe to beat a 35-year-old record and I also don't want to miss out on scoring more goals than Marco Van Basten did here. I'm only three short of that."

Inzaghi has fallen out of favour under coach Leonardo but, with the Brazilian leaving his post at the end of the current Serie A season, the striker remains hopeful over his future.

He said: "I have started just nine games this term but I did manage to feel important. I accepted whatever decision the coach made, but I want to feel even more important next term. My hope is to remain in this shirt."

Inzaghi's current contract expires at the end of June, with Inzaghi hoping he can be offered a one-year extension once the Rossoneri have automatically qualified for the Champions League.

The prospect of Inzaghi being coached by the player whose record he wants to break doesn't concern the Italian. He said: "No matter who will coach the team next season, the important thing is that Milan return to winning ways.

"I don't think there will be problems [with my contract extension]."

Official: Leonardo will leave Milan

Milan have announced that Leonardo will leave the club after the last game of the season against Juventus tomorrow.

It's no secret that Leonardo wanted to leave San Siro after just one campaign.

The Brazilian is believed to want to spend more time with his family who still live in Rio de Janeiro.

His relationship with Milan patron Silvio Berlusconi has also become strained in recent months.

Earlier in May, Leonardo revealed his belief that they were 'perhaps incompatible'.

Speaking at a Press Conference, Leonardo said: “It's all very clear, we have come to the end.

“We met this morning and made a decision.â€
