Mancini aspetta, il Lione non molla. In mezzo la Roma, che in più di un'occasione si è detta intenzionata a rinnovare il contratto del brasiliano in scadenza il 30 giugno 2009. Un primo incontro a luglio: presenti il direttore sportivo Pradè, il procuratore di Amantino, Veloz, e lo stesso giocatore. La firma, allora, sembrava cosa fatta: accordo fino al 30 giugno 2012, aumento dell'ingaggio dall'attuale milione e 400mila euro a 2.5 milioni più premi l'anno. «Ci rivedremo ad ottobre», dirà più tardi Veloz. E all'agente farà eco Pradè, a metà settembre: «Ho parlato con il procuratore di Amantino, ho visto segnali di apertura. Affronteremo la questione all'inizio di ottobre, in completa serenità». Il periodo scelto da entrambe le parti è questo, è adesso. In agenda, però, non ci sono appuntamenti. Nessun incontro programmato, nessuna chiacchierata informale. E, sembra, nessun contatto. Gilmar Veloz è in vacanza, nel suo Brasile. Aspetta una chiamata dalla Roma, per evitare viaggi a vuoto. Pubblicamente ripete da mesi che la volontà del suo assistito è quella di restare nella Capitale, perché «qui si trova benissimo». Dice che «sì, Mancini piace alle grandi, ma le voci sul trasferimento non ci riguardano». «Roma è come una seconda casa», aggiunge il diretto interessato. Eppure, oggi, il rinnovo del contratto non è cosa fatta e la partenza del brasiliano, anche a gennaio, non è da escludere.

In prima linea c'è ancora il Lione, orfano di Malouda. Il club pluricampione di Francia ha già pronto per Mancini un quadriennale (con opzione per il quinto anno) da 4 milioni netti a stagione più premi (circa 300mila euro). E il presidente Aulas, che già aveva tentato di portar via Amantino a fine agosto, è ancora intenzionato a chiudere l'affare. Anzi, è disposto a tutto pur di assicurarsi il cartellino del giocatore. Lo vuole già a gennaio, a qualsiasi costo. Il Lione, in fondo, non se la passa benissimo e cerca rinforzi. In Ligue 1 Juninho e compagni sono primi a pari merito con il Nancy, che però deve recuperare una partita. In Champions, invece, è crollo totale: 0-3 col Barcellona all'esordio, 0-3 con i Rangers di Glasgow martedì scorso. Mancini, insomma, farebbe comodo. E se la Roma non dovesse trovare l'accordo con il giocatore entro la fine dell'anno rischierebbe non solo di perderlo, ma di lasciarlo partire per una cifra irrisoria: possibile, infatti, che Mancini sfrutti la clausola Fifa per svincolarsi a un prezzo stabilito. In casa giallorossa, poi, a una partenza dovrebbe corrispondere un arrivo, in ossequio al principio spallettiano dei due giocatori per ruolo. Ecco allora spuntare di nuovo il nome di Totò Di Natale (costretto in queste ore ad affrontare il dolore per la perdita della mamma). «Di fronte a un'offerta di molti milioni Pozzo potrebbe cederlo», aveva detto un mese fa Carpeggiani, procuratore dell'attaccante dell'Udinese. Ma era prima della Nazionale, prima dei gol impossibili. Cose che si pagano.



From what I can make out, it says Mancini is not interested in Lyon whatsoever, and he doesn't see it as a 'motivating' move. He wants to stay and extend with Roma, that is all. Both he and his agent, Gilmar Veloz, have said this, and he is happy with a 5-year €2.5m-a-year plus-bonuses extentsion. However, the problem is that both Prade and Veloz said that we will seal Mancini's extension in October, but there is no meeting scheduled to take place yet, and no sign of one happening soon either. Veloz is back in Brazil, on holidays, and Prade is doing nothing to speed along the process.

Then, there is Lyon, who are under pressure following a terrible start to the season, and also to appease the fans by signing a quality replacement for Malouda. And so Lyon's president, Aulas, just seems to have the biggest possible hard-on in history for Mancini, and is ready to give him a four-year €4m-a-season (plus-bonuses) deal, and he wants to sign him at all cost, and even as soon as January.

So, simply because Mancini may or may not have broken up with his girlfriend earlier this week, and because of this concrete interest in him from Lyon, Mancini wants to leave. That is what some reports are saying, and it is just bullshit, and completely misleading. Mancini wants to stay, his agent is saying everything is fine, and Prade has said he will meet with him soon and get it sorted. It is just taking longer than it should, which is in keeping with the way things are done at Roma. I don't think it is anything to worry about, but we need to act fast and agree to his extension before Lyon's president makes an offer we can't refuse.

Jamoldo, I meant more in terms of the squad. What I don't get is that he says that this squad couldn't deliver. He is right, the past four years the squad couldn't deliver. Though, he does forget that he was a part of that squad that couldn't deliver. When it comes to the management, hes absolutely right. I don't know, I guess I made too much of that whole quote. Regardless of this I'm still not sold on the fact that he was all to blame in what happened over the summer. I mean none of our players came out and spoke against him, which I think really says something.

Tuna, in a city like Roma, with a team as passionate as it is, with Totti, De Rossi, Aqui and co, no one bad mouthed him. That's very true. You had snakes like Emerson who were slammed by his former teammates, but not Chivu.

It's all over with now so we might as well get on with it.

The squad certainly did not deliver because it did not have the means to do so, whether or not Chivu was a part of it...
