Francesco Totti has apologised for the ‘thumbs down’ gesture that infuriated Lazio, as clashes outside the Olimpico marred the derby.

I think he's apologizing because there were violent incidents after the game and he doesn't want it to seem like he got the fans in an uproar. Let's face it, they didn't need him to get in an uproar. It was probably inevitable.

There's little to be gained by being confrontational about it at this stage, I guess.
