Bergamo denies Inter present

The former referee designator at the heart of the Calciopoli scandal has denied receiving a present from Inter President Massimo Moratti.

Paolo Bergamo was responding to claims made by Luciano Moggi's defence lawyers at the Calciopoli trial in Naples where new evidence has recently come to light.

One wiretap shows the late Giacinto Facchetti apparently asking Bergamo to come to Inter's offices to receive a 'little present'.

Another appears to show Facchetti demanding that Bergamo designate Pierluigi Collina for one of their matches.

Speaking to Rai Sport, Bergamo was pressed on whether he ever received any presents from Inter.

La sessione estiva di calciomercato, ancora non è iniziata, ma la società nerazzurra sembra essere una delle più attive su questo fronte. Per rinforzare il centrocampo, alcuni giorni fa si era fatto il nome di Miguel Veloso, talentuoso giocatore dello Sporting Lisbona. Branca non ha mai nascosto il proprio apprezzamento per il portoghese, anche se per ora nicchia. "Conosciamo bene Veloso - ha dichiarato il dt interista sulle pagine di Report - si tratta di un giocatore che interessa a molti club in Europa. Siamo attenti, ma per il momento non c'è niente di ufficiale. In questo momento siamo concentrati solo sulla Champions".
Lo stesso quotidiano portoghese Report, riporta i termini di questa operazione. Il procuratore di Veloso è lo stesso di Quaresma, e proprio per questo dovrebbe essere reso più facile lo scambio tra i due, oltre ad un conguaglio di 10 mln di euro da parte dell'Inter da versare nelle casse della società portoghese. Per il momento però "non c'è nessun contatto ufficiale ma a maggio ne parleremo" ha dichiarato Branca. Ma il "si" del giocatore sembra più che scontato.

How about this falsifying of the phone call transcripts apparently done by Moggi's lawyers? There seems to be two transcripts of the phone call where in one, it appears GF's asking specifically for Collina to ref a game while the other has no such thing. This seems to be the biggest game of smokes and mirrors I've ever seen. And of course, GF can't defend himself which is the biggest shame of all.

But, that's not all, Milan have now been accused of having direct communication with referees at the time.

In another call, published by L'Espresso, the then Milan consultant Leonardo Meani spoke with referee Pierluigi Collina after he took a game between Siena and Milan. Meani says Milan vice president Adriano Galliani is keen to speak with the bald-headed whistle blower.

Meani: He [Adriano Galliani] asked about you. He wanted to have a chat, but couldn't because the location was not ideal.

Meani then invites Collina to a meeting at Galliani's house, but the referee refuses, fearing he will be recognised.

Collina: Both myself and Galliani can easily be recognised, I wouldn't want someone to see us.

Collina and Galliani are then alleged to have met at Meani's own restaurant for a meeting and again on other occasions.

Some time after the original Calcipoli scandal, Collina was promoted, and is currently the Serie A and B referee designator.

If anything, this is probably the most suspicious call I've read so far. Talking to designators was fine but I'm pretty sure talking directly to refs is not.
