Well, a little brightening news if only in part. It would seem Pradè has decided that although Gallas would come to us free, his high wages are unrealistic so apparently our interest in him is over.

As I never watch Arsenal I know little of our supposed latest target, Emmanuel Eboue. Ranieri apparently appreciates the fact he can play right back, right wing and central defence...his age too is better, 26. To get him this summer means Mexes definitely goes, according to Football Italia but we already knew the rumours of he or Juan being our latest fall guys...and here was me, the forum cynic, thinking Pradè was just on another paid holiday at our club's expense!

Taddei in the partitella at Trigoria today scored a goal reminiscent of Totti against Sampdoria which had the small crowd of spectators applauding him. If he could only do more of that in our competetive matches...

That Taddei goal was yesterday's news, Carlo. Today's news is that Luca scored two in a match against the Primavera. No doubt he's got some bean-pole 14-year-old marking him.

Eboue' is an appalling player - fast, strong, technically pretty ordinary and probably the biggest diver in European football. I'd rather we signed Gallas, Phil Neville, and I had to sacrifice a testicle to the cheese-grater. I'm not sure there's a player I'd like less than Eboue'.

Having said that, I can remember one time in my youth, a very slow evening in the hotel where I was then working. The head chef thought it would be good customer relations if some of us went into the restaurant and chatted to the residents and off the street diners. We got talking to a rat catcher (albeit a smartly dressed one) who had apparently had to lose most of his penis (he didn't say why) and he told us he'd become accustomed to it, didn't miss its sexual function. I didn't believe him though I couldn't of course say so.

The sous chef who was doing the talking to this "pest control officer" was himself a bit of a freaky guy. I didn't stay in that job long!

I'd had quite a sheltered upbringing in my teens and hotel life really opened my eyes whern I got to my early twenties! If I thought there was a constant game of musical beds between the residents and overnight or conference customers, the waitresses and receptionists gave we guys a real seeing-to! You know the script. Nice girls at home, butter wouldn't melt etc. then once away from prying eyes it's open house...and other things!

Of course, it's so different now with a more relaxed morality. In those days it couldn't be so openly done.

But in truth I have to say the taxi trade gave me my true street and life's education...strange though, that the hooker to whom I once said we cabbies and they had one thing in common, we depended on the streets for our living...didn't at all appreciate the remark!
