i don't know why so many people are surprised at the result. i was expecting it all along, thats why i was only praying for anything but a wipeout.

but it was shrewd defensive masterclass by ferguson that will go unnoticed by everybody. man.utd didn't even play us off the park, we had 59% possession anyway, and just 1 less shot on goal.

but ferguson set his team up so well that it restricted us to nothing.

and maro, do you really think we had a chance with nesta, zambrotta, pato and seedorf? i would have expected probably a less humiliating scoreline, but definitely a loss.

seedorf would have been the key.

but that is how the ball rolls....

and i feel the guys at the zonalmarking website, while decently knowledgeable in terms of tactics, watch very few games of milan if they think that we should have played with a 4-5-1 with ronaldinho and beckham out wide.

cluster fuck in midfield is not what we needed.

Well, mk, you know I don't think this Milan side is in fact especially good - which is in large part why I was so disappointed we gave them so much too much respect on Saturday. I think when everything clicks you can beat anyone (and you could have been three or four up at half-time at the San Siro), but I don't really like your formation and I think you have too many weak links, really. At least Seedorf would have allowed you to dominate possession (even more). Starving Manure of the ball would make them panic a little.

As I'm sure was evident, I got a bit bored with the zonalmarking guys and was looking for someone else to spice things up. As you say. there's quite a lot of Championship Manager bred tactical knowledge and not much practical sensitivity to how this Milan side actually work and have been working. On cursory view, it seems the site is run by a few guys who know some stuff but who are maybe a bit self-satisfied with their 'superior, self-consciously tactical' take on football and so who end up running into just a different set of cliches in the end.
