Non accenna a diminuire, da Oltre Manica, la tendenza allo scippo dei talenti in giro per il mondo. Nonostante la sentenza Kakuta (recentemente sconfessata, peraltro) che aveva condannato il Chelsea a non fare mercato, i rivali del Manchester United proseguono per la loro strada di reclutamento di baby talenti. Questa volta, dopo la Lazio con Macheda, dovrebbe essere la Roma a farne le spese. I giallorossi avevano già perso il giovane Petrucci qualche anno fa, ma adesso la storia pare destinata a ripetersi: nella lente di ingrandimento di Sir tender Alex Ferguson, sono infatti finiti i quindicenni Valerio Verre e Filippo Cipriani.

Apparently the dirty scumfucks at Man Utd are planning on poaching two of our promising youngsters in Valerio Verre and Filippo Cipriani from our youth set up (they're not in our primavera, but a younger side, presumably the giovanissimi or somesuch, our wonderful official website has those sides listed as blank). Fecking 15-year-olds. How do they even know about these kids? Its disgusting what they are doing and the fact that they can get away with it is even worse. It better not happen.

I don't know about that, Tomzo, but surely you can't agree with what these english clubs are doing? Its a fault in the law and UEFA and the FIGC should take measures to prevent this from happening in Italy (and UEFA in Spain, France etc. too). Its not allowed in england and it is these 'english' clubs who can't develop their own youth but have the funds to throw at young players and their fathers and it is wrong.

It's free trade, nedzo, and freedom of movement. Why are you stuck in out-moded conceptions of place and nation and community? If these kids see an opportunity to develop their potential better at ManUre, then why shouldn't they be free to pursue that opportunity? It's not like they're not complicit in the moves - surely it's Roma's fault for not doing enough to hang onto these kids and to give them enough reason to wait a little longer for their own professional opportunities with their own club within their own city?

Oh sorry, I forgot you were from MidWorld where there are no borders and no countries where the people prance around wearing nothing but vegetable-tanned leather trading crops for stories and are free to roam wherever they choose. Your not in the real world here, Tomzo. The kids shouldn't be allow to move for many different reasons, the most obvious being is it right for a young kid of 15-years to be moved and having his whole family move to a different country with a different language and culture purely for the sake of money? Its not like these kids are living on the streets in their homelands, no one is suffering here. What happens to those who don't make it at these english clubs? They are raked in from all around the world like a Japanese fish trawler and most of them are discarded after a few years when the club realise they aren't worth it. Furthermore, its hardly Roma's or any Italian or Spanish clubs fault if the likes of these 'english' clubs poach these young lads because the laws state they can't be offered a professional contract until they are 17, so clubs can poach them for a pittance of what their potential market-value could be, and whole issue stinks of moral indecency.

Whose, though, is the moral indecency? The poaching clubs'? Or the players' and their families' - who are prepared to take the risk of making the move and trying to make it work?

It's closer to a form of an arbitrage opportunity than free trade given the legal differences between the two markets. England has an artificially imposed comparative advantage in attracting young players due to laws that allow such players to be signed to professional contracts at younger age than is legal in Italy (or other European countries). If Italy (and other European countries) feel slighted by this reallocation of resources they should work to level the playing field by changing their laws.

Well hey, assumung United throw them some decent contracts, and the kids aren't that tied to Roma (emotionally) why not? The organization is a world famous one, is renowned for winning (with the mentality to match), has a solid youth academy and fantastic overall facilities... Let's not forget the Roman practice of dumping our youth off in later years anyhow - after having not used them one bit, or really giving them a shot. Do we really have to discuss how little it took Petrucci to leave?
