Report: Baptista-Burdisso swap

Inter and Roma are on the verge of completing a swap deal, sending Julio Baptista to San Siro in exchange for Nicolas Burdisso.

The transfer would see only one player actually move, as Burdisso is already at the Olimpico on loan and could be made a permanent fixture in the Giallorossi squad.

A cash sum would also be included in order for Inter to buy up all of Baptista’s contract.

It’s widely reported that a meeting between directors Marco Branca and Daniele Pradè is in progress and the deal could be announced by the end of the evening.

The Brazilian would be fielded as a trequartista, providing an alternative to Wesley Sneijder, who is currently the only player with those characteristics.

The two clubs battled for the Scudetto in the last few years, but have a solid transfer understanding, as Cristian Chivu and Amantino Mancini have moved to Inter.

Inter give Mourinho backing - Nerazzurri coach given vote of confidence ahead of Chelsea clash

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti insists Jose Mourinho's job is safe regardless of what happens in the UEFA Champions League clash with Chelsea.

Mourinho comes up against his former club in the knock-out stages of Europe's elite competition next month in the first of a two-legged affair at the San Siro.

Knowing only too well the threat they pose to his quest for European glory, he is preparing his side to be at their best against a Chelsea side desperate to claim their first Champions League crown.

Regardless of the outcome, Moratti claims the Inter coach should be safe in the knowledge that his role at the club will be unaffected.

"The Champions League should not become an obsession or a complex for us," he told La Stampa, before pointing out his father's success as club president when winning the tournament in the 1964-65 campaign.

"That's not the case for me, thanks to the fact that as a family, we have already won this title.

"We know, however, that we have to work from a psychological standpoint to overcome the first hurdle."

Moratti gave his full backing to Mourinho, who has done a sterling job since joining the Serie A leaders.

Asked if the Portuguese tactician could lose his post should Inter fail to progress, he simply said: "No, the coach will remain with us."

Guti: 'Voglio andare all'Inter'

Guti vuole l'Inter. A dirlo è lo stesso giocatore nel programma 'Informe Robinson' su Canal+. Il madridista alla domanda del conduttore 'Dopo il Ream Madrid ci sarà un'altra squadra per Guti?' il centrocampista timidamente afferma: 'Mi piacerebbe restare al Madrid", poi, dopo un attimo di silenzio, lancia il messaggio ai nerazzurri: "Ma è anche vero che mi picerebbe giocare con la maglia di un altro club. Poter conoscere un altro calcio conoscere altri compagni. L'Inter mi prenderebbe a braccia aperte? Anche io ci andrei a braccia aperte. Lì ho due grandi amici, Samuel e Sneijder e poi l'Inter è una squadra che puo' aspirare a vincere tutto. I'm not sure about Cambiasso or Muntari making this game but if either of them can partner J.Z in midfield, it would be a big help.

Guti? Well I'd take him over Baptista but when all's said and done, he's 33. You can't even plan around the guy cause he's finished in a season or 2.

I'm not sure the problem with Baptista is that he'd be really playing out of position, Lomba, so much as that he's just shit. I also think he can do more of a job for us for the rest of the season than he can for you, so in a way I think it'd be lose-lose, even though I know my fellow Romanisti will string me up by the balls for defending Baptista.

In all honesty I would rather take Guti than Baptista. Guti is much more talented than Baptista but he is possibly the laziest and moodiest player I have ever seen. At least Baptista has physique which is a characteristic we lack in our midfield and he is not a loud mouth like Guti is. Baptista also knows Serie A while Guti at 33, settling in is a big question mark.

Both are not going to be any good for us, but I would rather go with Baptista than Guti.

We need a midfielder, says Mou

Inter boss Jose Mourinho has dodged questions about the possible arrival of Julio Baptista from Roma, telling the Press he would like a central midfielder.

The Nerazzurri are reportedly a matter of hours away from signing 'the Beast' in a player-plus-cash deal involving Argentinian defender Nicolas Burdisso.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's game against Bari, Mourinho said: “I think about the players that I have available to me and I don't cry if someone leaves, like for example Samuel Eto'o who is at the African Cup of Nations.

“I always say the same thing: if before January 31 a player arrives who can give balance to our central midfield and allow us to rotate things a little then Okay. Otherwise, it's not a problem. Stevanovic for example has come in against Siena and done a good job.â€
