Luciano Spalletti, da poche settimane alla guida dello Zenit San Pietroburgo, guarda dalla Russia (il campionato comincerà a marzo) il rendimento della Roma e parla di scudetto in un'intervista pubblicata da "La Gazzetta dello Sport".

"Con Toni è una Roma da scudetto. Toni può essere la quadratura del cerchio, garantisce gol 'sporchi', inventati dal nulla. È importante che Toni sia arrivato a Roma, con la benedizione di Totti. La Roma potrebbe cambiare modulo, forse passerà dal 4-2-3-0 dove lo zero è il Totti che fa il centravanti o che scompare per fare spazio ai compagni a un più classico 4-4-2. La Roma è qualcosa che mi è rimasta sulla pelle, potrò indossare altri vestiti ma la Roma resterà la Roma".

Spalletti weighs in on Toni to Roma. I'm not suprised he thinks he's a good addition, since he always wanted a prima punta.

Luca Toni huh. Luca friggin Toni. Its good to finally see him at Roma. Its just a pity its about five or six years late. Giovanni, it is a big shame we never got him five years ago when he was leaving Palermo or again when he wanted to leave Fiorentina – he has always been associated with a move to us and he would of fitted in quite nicely with us, but now his arrival is a bit too late and he is unfortunately not the same player he once was. In fact, he hasn't been the same player for quite some time, since after his first successful season with Bayern. I don't think we need to argue over that. But who knows, we have to rub the slate clean, we have to give him a chance, a new start with some fresh impetus back in his native country with some teammates he knows well, so who knows, he may do well for us, or he may not. Its up to him.

I wonder will he make his debut today for us in our (kick-off 3pm I think). Ah, I see he has made the teamsheet (below). His official presentation was this morning in Roma. He will wear the number 30 for us.

I certainly would have welcomed Toni to Roma when Palermo came up to Serie A, and I was hoping we'd try to get him then and at other times when he became available. Unfortunate set of circumstances that we didn't get him before now, but here's hoping for the best.

I don't really think it was an unfortunate set of circumstances that led to us not getting him before, Lupa, more just that our management were stingy cnuts and never stumped up the cash to get him, which was a pity. Even with signing Luca now, you could say our management has taken the easy way out – instead of making some proper transfer funds available so we could finally solve our long-term and oft highlighted prima-punta problems and get someone younger and more able they have taken the easy, short-term solution by signing a 32-year-old outcast on loan for six months who is desperate to prove he is still a decent player and who's long term future is uncertain. I hope that doesn't come across as sounding harsh on Luca – it wasn't meant too, I'll give him a chance and wish him well – but its the way it is with our management, I feel.

I like Luca. He's Italian. He's a true prima punta di peso. He leads the line. He'll take some of Totti's kicks for him. He'll complement Vooch's game quite well; he'll allow us to play from back-to-front more quickly at times. And the lack of pace he and Totti have won't, I think, be too exposed because with Totti's passing and Vooch's pace and Perrotta's runs I suspect teams will be very wary of playing too high a line against us. Luca may be finished but I'm glad it'll be with us that he'll get a chance to prove he's not. I will cut him much more slack than edzo and 'moldy, among others, will.
