Abuse directed at Mario Balotelli not just a black and white issue

One measure of the weight resting on his 19-year-old shoulders is that when the biggest clubs in Italy met on Saturday night, the spotlight was entirely on him. Mario Balotelli’s presence overshadowed Juventus, Inter Milan and, yes, even the Special One . . . and he was not even in the starting XI.

His story encompasses a number of hot-button issues, both sociocultural (racism, multiculturalism, free expression) and personal (ego, ability, behaviour), which is why it is so compelling.

Balotelli is the first black Italian superstar footballer in a nation that was once ethnically homogenous and is now, thanks to immigration and economic forces, much more diverse.

Well MI, according to Channel4, he did train with the squad today.

Sneijder back for Inter

Inter have received a boost ahead of Wednesday night's all-important Champions League clash with Rubin Kazan, as Wesley Sneijder is practically fit again.

The 25-year-old former Ajax youngster has been struggling with a thigh problem suffered while on international duty with Holland last month.

He was expected to return in time for Inter's trip to Barcelona on November 24, but his recovery hit a snag and his return was eventually delayed.

Sneijder has now finally started training again with the group after a number of individual sessions tailored to his own recuperation.

He has become nothing short of talismanic at Inter since joining the club from Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer.

With Sneijder in their starting XI Inter have won eight games and drawn three; without him they have won four games, drawn one and lost three.

Aleksandr Bukharov Injury Blow For Rubin Kazan

The highly rated attacker will be out of action for a while...

Russian champions Rubin Kazan have received some disturbing news from the treatment table in the build-up to their decisive Champions League clash against Inter on Wednesday.

They will travel to Italy without highly rated attacker Aleksandr Bukharov as the striker recovers from wrist surgery.

The 24-year-old injured his wrist against Khimki on October 17 and although he was soon back in action wearing a cast, surgery was an increasing inevitability.

Bukharov went under the knife in Germany last week, ruling him out for four weeks.

The striker played a significant role in Rubin retaining the Russian title with his 16 goals in 23 Premier-Liga outings, but has yet to score his first Champions League goal.

About Balotelli, the only thing I've got to add is I wonder if this circus would be as large as it is if he didn't play for Inter. The way they're going on about it, you'd think he was the only black person in the history of the world.

Off topic MI but what about that draw for the Aussies at the world cup? Germany, Ghana and Serbia! The only result I can see is bottom of the table without a single point. We're pretty decent tactically atm but technically, we're going to get absolutely massacred. Sort of like Inter, we simply don't have the technical quality to match up against tough opposition.

Inter start talks for Aguero

Inter are apparently negotiating a deal with Atletico Madrid for their Argentinian star Sergio 'Kun' Aguero, according to the Catalan Press.

El Mundo Deportivo understands the Nerazzurri want to bring Aguero to Italy in the summer and Atletico are willing to sell in order to ease their considerable financial problems.

Chelsea have already launched a bid in the region of £40m only to see it turned down, but Inter feel they can do a part-exchange deal, swapping Riccardo Quaresma in the process.

Inter were ready to do a deal for the 21-year-old in January but Aguero, who is also Diego Maradona's son-in-law, announced his intention to stay at the Calderon until the end of the season.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly given the deal the green light as he continues his search for a creative player capable of complementing Wesley Sneijder.

The Dutchman has been inspirational since his transfer from Real Madrid, but injuries have limited his playing time, leaving Inter short of ideas going forward.

Inter have a reputation in Spain for pulling off huge transfer deals, especially after Zlatan Ibrahimovic's move to Barcelona in the summer.

The presence of a number of Argentinian players within the squad is also seen as an advantage in future negotiations with Aguero.

Inter consider bid for Toni

La Gazzetta dello Sport understands Inter are ready to join the race to sign want-away Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni.

The Nerazzurri are in the market for a target man capable of leading the line in Samuel Eto'o's absence in January.

They have so far focused their attention on Lazio's Goran Pandev, however, his going to court to rescind his contract with the Biancocelesti is seriously complicating matters.

With existing strikers Marko Arnautovic and David Suazo failing to offer guarantees, Inter have therefore accelerated their position on Toni.

A number of Italian teams, notably Roma and Napoli, have made their interest in Toni known in recent months, but his wages, which total £3m a year until 2011 present a considerable obstacle.

However, according to La Gazzetta, Bayern are reportedly so frustrated with Toni they are prepared to let him leave on a free transfer.

It had been reported that Bayern reached an agreement to sell Toni to Valencia, but the player's desire is that of returning to Italy as expressed last week in an interview with Italian gossip magazine 'Chi'.

Toni has made just one appearance in Bayern's last three games and it appears unlikely that he will feature against Juventus in the Champions League this evening.
