Sorry Stefano, thats a bit lost on me. I did say his words would stand to motivate the Irish players tomorrow (see my original post), which obviously wasn't his intention, but it will have that effect, I'm sure. The manner in which he done it though, while walking off the pitch, is what makes it so bad. Could you imagine if De Rossi or Cannavaro were walking off the pitch after losing a high-charged, high-tempo play-off game and Diarra whispered "your out your greaseball wop Italian" into their ear? There would be war. And rightfully so. To me that sort of thing is not the same as other shit which goes on on a football field and has no place in the game.

Anyway, I don't want to dwell on this one issue. There is still 90 minutes left to play, 90 minutes to qualify for the World Cup. We will do our talking on the pitch by playing the game (which, I just read, we'll be able to watch on terrestrial TV after our broadcaster finally secured the rights for).

Did Diarra use any words equivalent to "greaseball wop"? My point is that while insulting an opponent after the fact is unsportsmanlike this was not actually after the fact as the tie is only half complete. It is no different to say "you're out" in the middle of the first leg, between the two legs, or in the middle of the second leg. In each situation, qualification is still under contention. Once the second leg has finished, the players should shake hands and leave the field in a sporting manner, but the time for such post competition niceties has not yet arrived.

No perhaps not, although its not known exactly what words he used, but it was something bad toward Irish people in general and so I took liberty in using those words for an Italian example. Ok I get what you mean, but i still don't think what he said was in anyway acceptable or the same old same old 'fighting talk' kind of thing, and I see it different from kicking an opponent (as in getting stuck in) on the pitch or shouting his face "your only a prick" during the 90 minutes. It is unprofessional and unmanly, and typical of such a player as Diarra.

Totti & De Rossi Return For Roma

Roma pair Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi are getting ready to start training once more after suffering from injury problems. According to Il Corriere Dello Sport, both players are expected to return to Trigoria. Moreover, they could make the weekend clash against Bari.

De Rossi should be discharged from the Gemelli Hospital in Rome on Tuesday after suffering from renal colic. It is unknown whether the midfielder will make the grade for the weekend. He has been told to drink around three litres of water a day to help alleviate his problems and speed up his recovery.

Totti, on the other hand, has been absent for 40 days, but he will rejoin the squad and train with them on Tuesday afternoon. His personal trainer, Vito Scala, reviewed the captain's situation, and the signs are positive.

"The situation is good," Scala stated. "Francesco is always getting better. We are hoping to see him on the pitch for the game against Bari."

What did you think of Materrazzi's insult Shield? Comdemnable or acceptable?
Because I do not remeber any of you here criticizing what he had said. Sorry to bring this back again but I feel it can be compared even though he said it during the 90 minutes of game time. I am not trying to defend The Bald Algerian because we all know that, as a professional, he had been very weak at that time and so reacted in an horrible way in a very important game. However, I feel that depending on the players and probably the team, you do not have the same reactions.

UNICREDIT CITA ITALPETROLI IN TRIBUNALE: BILANCIO NULLO ROMA A RISCHIO VENDITA

IL MESSAGGERO - Unicredit chiede al tribunale di Roma che attesti «la dichiarazione di nullità o comunque l’annullamento della delibera assembleare del 30 giugno 2009 di approvazione del bilancio 2008 della Compagnia Italpetroli». L’atto di citazione redatto da Francesco Carbonetti, Fabrizio Carbonetti, Massimo Tesei, secondo quanto ricostruito da Il Messaggero presso fonti giudiziarie, lungo 13 pagine in cui si ricostruiscono gli ultimi eventi, è stato depositato l’11 novembre scorso. L’udienza è fissata per il 25 febbraio 2010. Il nuovo fronte giudiziario aperto, dopo le 13 richieste di procedimenti esecutivi presentate e i due pignoramenti ottenuti, dimostra che Unicredit ha rotto gli indugi per recuperare il proprio credito, pari a settembre a 324,9 milioni, cui vanno aggiunti altri 100 milioni che Italpetroli deve a Mps. La banca guidata da Alessandro Profumo spiega che avendo l’istituto di credito disdettato l’accordo sul debito - perchè Italpetroli non ha pagato le rate - il bilancio non sarebbe più veritiero perchè non tiene più conto del valore dei crediti e delle partecipazioni. Non c’è quindi, sempre secondo gli avvocati, più continuità aziendale. Di qui l’ipotesi che il gruppo venga messo in liquidazione con la cessione di tutti i beni, compresa la As Roma, per restituire quanto dovuto. «Gli amministratori ritenevano che il gruppo Italpetroli», si legge nel documento, «si trovasse in una situazione di continuità aziendale e, conseguentemente, predisponevano il bilancio secondo i principi applicabili nella prospettiva della continuazione dell’attività» Ma «la valutazione di continuità, nella situazione di fortissimo indebitamento di Italpetroli, era in buona sostanza basata sull’esistenza di un accordo con il principale creditore, Unicredit - socio al 49% del gruppo di cui la famiglia Sensi ha il 51%, ndr - comprendente tra l’altro, un pactum de non petendo e disciplinante un processo di significative, ma progressive cessioni di asset». Il progetto di bilancio veniva approvato il 28 maggio dal consiglio e il 30 giugno dall’assemblea, con l’astensione di piazza Cordusio. Pochi giorni dopo l’ok del consiglio, cioè «il 4 giugno Unicredit esercitava il proprio recesso dall’Accordo sul debito». E come conseguenza «veniva meno il pactum de non petendo», cioè l’impegno a non intraprendere azioni giudiziarie per riavere i soldi. Il 15 giugno il Collegio sindacale dava parere positivo al bilancio e «non faceva menzione dell’intervenuta inefficacia dell’Accordo sul debito».
