Looks like "G" will be joining us soon...I heard from him today and just as soon as the pressure of his work eases, we should be seeing him post. As he already knows a few of us it will indeed be a renewal of old acquaintances.
Liverfekkin'wankscum and Chelsea target Kjaer can leave Italy for £11m Last updated at 3:17 PM on 11th March 2009 – www.dailymail.co.uk
Liverfekkin'wankscum and Chelsea are reported to be interested in Palermo's teenage sensation Simon Kjaer. The 19-year-old Danish centre back can leave the Italian club for £11million in the summer and is also said to be a target for Real Madrid after impressing in his debut Serie A season.
His agent, former Derby and Middlesbrough striker Mikkel Beck, claims there is plenty of interest in the former FC Midtjylland defender.
Beck said: 'I can't give names, but it is clear that the top clubs in Europe are tracking Simon after his outstanding season.
'We don't know what will happen. He is very happy at Palermo and could stay there. There is a clause in his contract that allows him to leave during the summer window.'
With the international break upon us, the world of Calcio has been relatively quiet throughout the Peninsula this week but step into the world of the Rosanero and you will find it's anything but that. There has been any number of transfer links involving players that could be leaving the island-based club in the foreseeable future. Furthermore, Club President Maurizio Zamparini recently made headlines for all the wrong reasons when he spoke out publicly on his future plans with the Rosanero. But before we move on to all that it's only fitting that with the international break currently taking place that we take a look at which players from the current Rosanero squad should be considered for a possible Azzurri call-up in the future.
Over the last couple of years many Rosanero players have gone on to represent the national team, if we take a look at the world cup winning squad of 2006, four players - Luca Toni, Fabio Grosso, Andrea Barzagli and Christian Zaccardo - at one time or another have donned the distinctive colours of Palermo. However the squad that was picked to play against Montenegro and the Republic of Ireland had only one Palermo representative in Marco Amelia who is the second-choice back-up to Gigi Buffon, so who else deserves recognition from the current squad?
Federico Balzaretti should, in this writer’s opinion, be a starting line-up contender for the Azzurri. This season he has probably been the most consistent performer for the Rosanero, he adds an attacking dimension to the squad with his constant runs up the flanks and is sound defensively. In the recent Sicilian derby the 27-year-old looked as though he was the only one on the team who turned up on the pitch ready to play, throughout the game the Rosanero tifosi were repeatedly chanting his name in the crowds recognising the fact that he was the only one who was showing passion in a local derby. The rest of the team were half-asleep, unable even to string two passes together. The Italian backline is ageing especially in the full-back positions and Balzac (as known by most fans) as a solid replacement for the likes of Fabio Grosso and Gianluca Zambrotta in the future. Although he has represented Italy at numerous levels in the past, the time has arrived for him to take the next step up to the first team.
With talk of the Italian frontline needing reshuffling due to a lack of creativity and speed from the current crop, the inclusion of Fabrizio Miccoli could very well provide the answer to the Nazionale attacking woes. The pint-sized striker does have 10 caps to his name but he hasn’t been included in the national squad since 2004 and this writer thinks it’s about time he re-emerged onto the international scene. The pride of Lecce has been on fine form for the Rosanero this season having netted 10 goals in 22 appearances. You could say he fits the mould of Antonio Di Natale - both being of similar size and boasting the ability of beating defenders one-on-one with their immense pace. Former teammate Amauri now currently with Juventus has stated that he thinks Miccoli is better than his current strike partner Alessandro The Waterboy: “The Waterboy? Miccoli is stronger - I can honestly say that Miccoli is the strongest player I have ever played with.â€
Yes, we all know what he can be at times but for those of us who can remember the Gaucci regime at Perugia there is no comparison between a businessman prone to eccentricity like Zampa, as opposed to an out and out clown!

In-form Palermo will look to keep up the pressure on Roma when they travel to Siena on Sunday. The Sicilian giants continued their brilliant home form in Serie A with a 5-1 thrashing of Cagliari at La Favorita last weekend. Five different players were on target as Davide Ballardini's side made it four wins in a row at home.
With four games left, Palermo are one point behind sixth-place Roma, who hold the last European qualifying spot. Palermo defender Federico Balzaretti said: "We are having a great season at La Favorita and we are just one point behind Roma.
"Our aim is to play in Europe next season. "We will try to catch Roma and finish sixth in the standings."
Roma have struggled lately and travel to Cagliari this weekend knowing anything but a win could see Palermo leapfrog them in the table, provided the Rossaneri come out triumphant at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.
"Roma are superior to us but we are in good form," said Balzaretti. "We have four finals left, our first at Siena."
Palermo, who have now accrued 39 of their 52 points this season in Sicily, will look to end the rot on the road with a triumph at Siena. The Rossaneri have collected only one point in their last three away matches and they have mustered just two wins on their travels this year.
"In order to have a chance to play in Europe next season, we need to start taking points on the road," admitted Balzaretti. "That has been our weakness this season. "But there is no reason why we cannot show our good form away from Palermo."
Ballardini will have to watch the match from the stands as he serves a one-match touchline ban this weekend. Rivals Siena beat Napoli 2-1 last weekend to take a giant step towards preserving their Serie A status. The Bianconeri bounced back from defeats by Chievo and Torino to clinch their 11th win of the campaign.
Traditionally, 40 points is the magic figure clubs aim for at the start of the campaign and, ahead of tomorrow's encounter, Siena have 40 in the bank as the season enters its final four weeks.
The Tuscan outfit are 11 points clear of the drop zone and know a positive result this weekend would be sufficient to see them begin celebrating. Siena coach Marco Giampaolo said: "We are missing just one point. But we can already say we've done our duty.
"It has been a long journey but we have achieved a difficult aim. "We must now finish the job against Palermo."
A win on Sunday would be a big morale boost for Siena with their next two games coming at Serie A leaders Inter Milan and against Juventus. Palermo will field attacking duo Edison Cavani and Fabrizio Miccoli, who have scored half of their team's goals this season. The Rossaneri will be boosted by the return of Cesare Bovo from suspension.
PALERMO DREAM OF EUROPA LEAGUE SPOT www.sportinglife.com – E-mail Article Print-Friendly Subscribe to RSS Feed
Palermo make the trip to Bergamo to meet Atalanta on Sunday knowing their hopes of playing in next season's Europa League remain in the balance. The Sicilian giants are lying seventh in the Serie A standings - two points behind Roma who play at AC Milan on the same day. With two games remaining, Palermo know they cannot make any mistakes if they wish to leapfrog Roma and finish sixth.
"We have a duty to clinch six points in our next two games," said Palermo midfielder Mark Bresciano. "The team is well physically and mentally and we know that the game in Bergamo is very important for us.
"We really want to play in Europe next season but in order for that to happen we must hope that Roma slip.
"To know that we need to win at all costs will give us a further motivation.
Last weekend's 2-0 win over Lazio marked the Rosaneri's fifth consecutive win at La Favorita.
But with just two wins collected on their travels this year and just one point won in their last four outings, Bresciano knows his team must step up their game in Bergamo.
"We hope that finally we will have the possibility to prove our worth on the road," he said."We have struggled away from home and the matches at La Favorita have been crucial for us."
Palermo will not take Atalanta lightly though.
The Bergamaschi held Juventus to a 2-2 draw in the last round and will be determined to sign off with a victory in their final game of the season at the Atleti Azzurri d'Italia stadium.
"Atalanta will not grant us any favours," said Bresciano."They have a good team and will be looking to give their fans a good performance.
"But we will have plenty of determination to take home three points."
Sunday's game will also mark Luigi Del Neri's last game in Bergamo as coach of Atalanta.
He turned down a contract extension with the Bergamaschi having already guided the team for a second consecutive year to Serie A safety.
Del Neri wants to leave on a high note and with just four points needed to beat the club's 50-point record in Serie A set in the 2006-07 campaign, Palermo can expect a battle.
"If we win our final two games we would end the campaign with 52 points," said Del Neri. "Palermo are a very strong side, with players of the quality of Fabrizio Miccoli and Mark Bresciano.
"But we have the fortune of playing at home. "A positive result on Sunday would be a big morale boost for our final game at Inter.
"We hope Inter will still be celebrating the scudetto and that we can repeat our success we had again them earlier this season when we beat them 3-1."
The hosts will have to overcome the absence of team's top scorer Sergio Floccari, who is out of action with a muscular injury.
Simplicio got a call up to the Brazil squad for the first time. It is just for a few friendlies but still good for him. Bit of a surprise.
Simplicio delighted with Brazil call – Tuesday 10 November, 2009
Palermo midfielder Fabio Simplicio has spoken of the joy he felt on being called up to the Brazil squad for the first time in his career. The 30-year-old has long been a favourite in Serie A, but until now never got the recognition he deserved outside the peninsula. Speaking to mediterraneonline.it, Simplicio said: “This call up lifted my morale after the defeat against Bologna. It's a great joy.
“Kaka called me to say 'congratulations', he also gave me some indication that I would be selected. “As for Palermo, I heard from Walter Zenga, Cesare Bovo, who is my neighbour, and Cavani who sent me a text.â€
Zamparini furious with Zenga
Tuesday 10 November, 2009
Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini is furious with Walter Zenga but insists he won't sack him for now.
The Rosanero haven't won any of their last three matches in Serie A, losing 3-1 to relegation battlers Bologna on Sunday.
After breaking into the top four in October, Palermo now lie a disappointing 11th in the table.
“Zenga has spoken about individual errors in the defence, but he has to teach them not to repeat certain blunders,â€
