Irrespective of the other results in any of the games (including the game against Barca), a victory against Rubin at home should get us through to the next round.
Inter v Roma
Bologna v Inter
FC Barcelona v Inter
Inter v Fiorentina
Juventus v Inter
Inter v FC Rubin Kazan
That's our next 6 games; season defining stuff right there. This is where the advantage of 7 points in the Sere A come into play; all team rotations should be centered around Barca and Rubin. If Juventus drop points between now and when we face them, that would be a massive help.
At long last....some fuckin balls out there!! That was what I hated the most in this competition. We might say we were jinxed in this competition (and at a certain point in the second half, I started to believe there really is a jinx on us), but when we play with a defensive midfield setup, you go nowhere in Europe. Yesterday we saw an offensive midfield in the second half and Dinamo were crushed in their own half all the time. Play with guts for fuck's sake. Oh, and this is were we should thank God we have Mou on our side. He might not be the best tactical coach out there, but when it comes down to man management and motivating, he's the top. This side needs motivations all the time, and yesterday we got what we needed thanks to sheer determination.
This could really turn the European tide in our favour. IF we really managed to mentally unblock ourselves in Europe, than that is the best result we could achive in Europe this year. We all know we dont have a real shot at winning this year's competition, but our aim should be to mentally unblock ourselves in Europe so that next year we could become a real threat. If this goes out to be that turning point, than this would be hugely more important than just 3 points.
P.S. Fuck, we have Juve just before the most important game of the group for us. That sucks..
Just found this vid from yesterday's match. Stankovic is clearly giving Sheva an advice of what he should be doing after the match.... (watch closely his hand & face movements..)
Wow, that's some line up of games right there. There is also an international break somewhere in between so expect the likes of Sneijder and co. to come back injured.
If Bayern win the next game and Juve don't win at Bordeaux, it will be a do or die clash for them as well.
If a week is a long time in politics, 90 minutes can be a lifetime in football. Jose Mourinho must have lived through a few of them against Dynamo Kyiv but in the end Inter Milan are alive and kicking in the Champions League.
NEWS, Wed 4 Nov: Inter squeak through
For so long it looked like it was going to be one of those evenings, behind to an early goal from an old enemy and squandering chances – until Diego Milito scuffed home an equaliser and Wesley Sneijder’s whippet-like reactions saved the Nerazzurri season.
More than anything, those late goals from the two big summer signings have ensured that Mourinho has defied those critics waiting to bewail another European failure.
The Portuguese had wrapped up anyone capable of putting one foot in front of the other for the big chill-down in Ukraine – and the medical staff had worked long and hard on repairing Sneijder’s damaged hamstring.
As an extra precaution against the midfielder breaking down, he was supplied with a heat-inducing pair of fetching black tights that would have done Nureyev proud.
With the little Dutch dancer in the middle of the park there was no sign that Inter were going to take a siege mentality to the east.
In fact, until Andriy Shevchenko’s deflected goal, the visitors had enjoyed more possession – but then of course the old doubts started to creep in as passes went astray, tackles were missed and the locals could sense an Italian collapse.
All credit then to Jose for taking the game to the hosts at the start of the second half by sending on Thiago Motta, who hadn't played for three weeks, and the unpredictable Mario Balotelli. If ever Mourinho’s changes needed to work then it had to be on this occasion.
Uncharacteristically, experienced European performer Samuel Eto’o who wasted two glorious chances; equally unexpectedly, sub Sulley Muntari who helped set up the winner with a speculative shot which the aptly-named Bogush fumbled for the Dutchman to lash in a late winner.
The result: Inter’s first win in the competition since October 2008 and from bottom of the group to top in five short minutes.
It's the kind of night to foster the self-belief that this side can finally carry home the Holy Grail. Now Mourinho has to maintain the buoyant mood.
Tellingly, he has become less inclined to get involved in petty arguments with his peers and media – and dominating the domestic league has certainly left his critics with little opportunity to snipe at him.
The job's not done yet: any of the four teams can still qualify. But just as city cousins AC Milan had a glamorous night out in Spain, Inter travel to face Barcelona at the end of the month.
A win would send out a clear message that Inter are genuine contenders (and, coupled with a Rubin Kazan draw, would send the holders out).
For sheer pressure-free entertainment then Florence is the place to be. Another big European scoreline and Fiorentina are almost in touching distance of the knock-out stages.
Lyon will be a mighty challenge but the Viola do not know how to play for a draw so if they do make the two-legged affairs then they could be one of those fan-favourites capable of scoring five or conceding five.
Italian football may not be back at numero uno just yet but the European exploits this week suggest it is getting there.
Inter & Massimo Moratti Created Calciopoli & Sent Juventus Down To Serie B - Christian Vieri
The striker has alleged Inter were behind the Calciopoli scandal...
Former Inter striker Christian Vieri has sent shockwaves through the Italian game by suggesting that the Calciopoli scandal was dreamt up and executed by Nerazzurri president Massimo Moratti in order to make his club the strongest team in Italy and send Juventus down to Serie B.
Vieri is currently suing Inter and telecommunications company Telecom Italia for illegal wire tapping.
Firenzeviola.it reports that the wire tapping plan between Moratti and Telecom Italia was to eliminate teams in Serie A so that Inter could pave the way for success. It claims Inter players were made to sign a document to cover up any existence of the plan to take down other clubs. The allegation is that Vieri's phone was tapped up to ensure he never spoke of Inter's Calciopoli plans.
"I am ready to show everyone the document, everyone knew what was happening. I was spied upon because I cannot keep these things locked up," Vieri said as reported by Firenze Viola.
"Seventy per cent of the contract was to be paid by Inter, and the other 30 per cent by Telecom who used me for advertising campaigns so that they could pay less taxes.
"I have only ever spoken about this to Mr [Rinaldo] Ghelfi of Inter, agreeing everything with him.
"I felt really sorry for Juventus because I have affection for them. The same with Milan. I thought I was doing something good for my president who has plenty to sell in terms of having a double personality."
The Calciopoli scandal shook the Italian game to its core in the summer of 2006, leading to the relegation of Juventus to Serie B. The Bianconeri, who were then the dominant side in Italy, had two Scudetti revoked from 2005 and 2006, the latter of which was assigned to Inter. Heavy points penalties were also dished out to the likes of Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina.
There have since been many conspiracy theories that have maintained that the scandal was just a conspiracy involving the likes of Inter President Massimo Moratti, former Telecom Italia President Tronchetti Provera and ex-FIGC President Guido Rossi, the latter two of whom are well known Inter loyalists and shareholders.
Since Calciopoli, the Nerazzurri have dominated Serie A with three successive Scudetti on the pitch, having previously waited since 1989 to win the Campionato.
Seems to me as if this is some sort of payback from the dirty fucker. It was clear that he was spied upon cause he and Ronaldo were always partying and turning up intoxicated to training, which is exactly what was happening. How long has it been since Calciopli, 4 years? He comes out with this now after an epiphany? We should be suing this fucker asap
