Hey at least they make profit by selling the club's soul and have some sort of coherent thesis.

We're not even doing that despite flogging off promising youth (ok- mishandling them) and selling guys like Aquilani (hey, it made sense from a monetary and business standpoint - but that's not was Roma is about, is it)! Our Italian parent (or whatever legal entity may be) is clearly siphoning any hint of profit off.

We're a joke in every aspect.

I thought we started off fairly well and took the initiative but then their first goal, their first real attack and against the run of play, really took the wind out of us and shattered whatever confidence we had. After that Udinese were on top and we struggled to get into the game before our equaliser. Again, after they re-took the lead in the second-half we really looked down and out (obviously Taddei being a fuckin idiot didn't help), but i wonder if this is a mental issue left over from Spalletti's reign which Ranieri has failed to solve? A team needs a strong mental will to fight back when they're up against it and we looked a million miles from that last night. You would think that Ranieiri – a stubborn, defensive, no nonsense, no easy goals tight-as-they-come kind of guy – would of looked at addressing this issue, but not based on last nights performance, thats for sure.

I'm sure I'll get slated here but I thought Vucinic had a decent game last night. Vince pointed out in the SB that decent isn't good enough but its a lot better then some of the other performances. Obviously I'm not going to try and defend Vucinic's form – he is (now) a striker and his job is to score goals and he's currently not doing that and thats not good enough – but last night a saw a lot of effort and determination to get back to his best which was perhaps missing in the Livorno game. He worked hard and held the ball up well for a forward who was very, very isolated, even more so after Taddei ran his mouth, and so it was always going to be a tough game for a lone striker, but he done well at times. He should of buried that chance though, no question, even if it did take a wicked bobble just before he hit it. It was a decent performance from him but obviously he just has a mental block in front of goal right now which he needs to get over. This is what Ranieri had to say about him: “Strikers go through these periods of poor form, it happens. The fact remains I must thank Vucinic for his efforts. He is not fully fit, but I continue to play him because I have no alternative.â€

Edzo, I honestly do not think there is any need to defend Vucinic. Collectively as a team Roma is very poor right now. To me, the results speak for themselves. Vucinic is a player who will take the most criticism because he is paid to score goals and right now, he is not earning his money. And- it's not like he has not be given opportunities. This is the single worst start to a season in the history of the club. The question of the day is "who is to blame" for this poor excuse for a team. To me, it starts at the top. Ownership must shoulder a significant portion of the blame but the players must share blame as well.

By the way, Perrotta and Pizarro signed contract extensions.

Ed, re/your posting of that Spalletti/Zenit St.P article...it goes to show I was right in my suspicions back in the summer when I said he might not have been so magnanimous in his gestures when leaving us if he hadn't been pretty sure he had somewhere else to go! Those Zenit rumours started in July, didn't they? How fortunate for us, as Gio points out, Pizarro and Perrotta have just signed extensions to their existing contracts!


So, we are all on the prayer mat again after these latest statements by our investors...


As an afterthought, on hearing Taddei has a two match ban...we have a hell of a list of absentees for the Bologna game. De Rossi's yellow on Wednesday means he is also suspended.

As for the injuries list...

Pizarro, Riise, Tonetto, Burdisso, Cerci, and Totti, we already know about. Still No word yet on Motta though.

In an ideal world we'd have a financially secure Italian owner who if not a Romano, would be aware of and have a respect for the Roman culture. He would initially buy two or three top quality Italian stars and build a team around them with the best quality players he could afford, irrespective of their nationality. Then, with the help of a well skilled management team, turn us into genuine contenders again. All the while he would be developing our youth system and grooming a group of mainly Italian lads to be our future, not someone else's. It's nice to dream of a largely Italian Roma becoming future winners...

But we already know these things. We also know in life we don't get all we ask for...


Deini hopes Angelini can revive us, given the chance. He would have his work cut out in doing just as best he can to begin with. Even if he took control by Christmas, we all know major players don't usually move in January which means although we'd see a couple of useful deals to put us back in the black, so to speak, it would be next summer before we would see a marked difference.

Steve & 'Tec talk of soul. Gio has painted a picture of Angelini as a no-nonsense businessman. I don't have a problem with that, a firm hand is good unless overdone. Somehow I think my imaginary Italian might be closer to having soul though.

Jamil, you have some valid objections to Italian business. But having lived in Italy and being an avid reader as you are, you know it won't change and you don't need the reasoning spelled out for you...

Carlo, you misunderstand me. Roma has soul - soul that has and will remain resilient in difficult circumstances. I am not specifically asking for an owner with soul. I am asking for a capable owner who wants to win.
