No Jamil, he wasn't referring to the clubs performance or management or anything like that, but about the fans. Such ignorant and naive remarks which you would not expect from anyone with half a brain:

"I can't imagine that at this stage of the competition a team like Fulham or a team like Basel or Sofia going to engender the type of hatred that will get their fans sharpening their knives, because that's what they do over there. There is no doubt that they do have a very dangerous bunch of fans."

I'm gonna miss the game tonight as I have football to play myself which I can't miss. Its a shame, as it would be an honour to see us play against such a European powerhouse and EPL side. The EPL is so great that any side in it is obviously going to be better than us, we should be honoured to play them, lets hope we make an impression so they can buy DDR and co. next summer, the EPL is so great blaaaaaaah blah blah... thank fuck for that last gasp from Andreolli. fuck man, i want to support Menez but how do you not bury a fucking penalty. watching Roma, you get your share of missed/blocked penalties in a lifetime. Guberti was another good player for us again. since Doni has come back, it's handicapped us some more

Ed, Tom, & Jamil, after years of seeing an impeccable Roy Hodgson on Italian tv I'm shocked to discover he would make a remark like the one Ed highlighted! Tonight on Ch5 he was certainly miffed about the penalty incident but his complaint was with the officials, not Riise or Roma. That seemed much more in keeping with his norm, as was his Mediaset interview, Thursday lunchtime.

The UK Ch5 tv presenter was predictably biased toward Fulham and his final comment of the night, "There's only one effin Roma" got up my nose possibly even more than the Hodgson knives comment!

Let's see what is said both in the build-up to and the aftermath of the ritorno on November 5'th.

On the match itself, I also wonder why Pizarro didn't take the penalty...I don't doubt we will progress from our group but I have the feeling Ranieri may not be able to afford the luxury of trying to sustain an EL campaign. This season, a top six Serie A place is surely our priority, and heaven help us, if that is beyond us then we must try to win the Coppa Italia!

Steve, I too, liked the flares before they were outlawed. When I look at old recordings I have of big European nights featuring Italian clubs, they really added colour and atmosphere.
