Is this what it's come to?

Adrian Mutu speaks Turkish and would be ready to say yes to Fenerbace's offer of a deal worth between €4 and 5 million, according to Turkish daily paper Haberturk. He earns just over €2mil in Firenze.

Perhaps someone can correct me if I am inaccurate, but as I recall, Mutu was hardly ever played at Chelsea before the infamous cocaine incident. While I will never condone it's use, I can at least understand the circumstances of the time. We had a young man away from home, friends, and family, discovering his dream career move was going, to coin an English phrase, pear shaped! One night at a party, to lift his mood he snorts some coke, end of story. No drunken brawls, no menacing of innocent bystanders, no damage to property, public or private, excessive noise etc. unlike the actions of some other footballers of whom it must be said, the English mentality appears to be far more accepting of.

The Chelsea fans can say what they like re/their agreement over their club's compensation demand of Mutu. A far more rational and sensible figure could be reached...

Prandelli renewal a formality

Fiorentina owner Diego Della Valle insists Cesare Prandelli's contract extension is a formality after last night's 1-0 victory over Lyon.

The three points qualify Fiorentina for the latter stages of the Champions League for the first time in a decade with a game to spare.

Prandelli has been widely praised for his achievements with the Viola and is being strongly linked with the Italy job, which is expected to become vacant after the World Cup next summer.

Interviewed by Mediaset, Della Valle was asked about the prospect of Fiorentina renewing Prandelli's contract, to which he replied: “It's a formality.

“The players and the trainer are one big family and they will stay here for many other years.â€

Fiorentina won the Tuscan derby in style with an emphatic 5-1 victory at Serie A basement boys Siena. After an inconsistent first half of the season, La Viola were eager to start 2010 on a high and did so in style.

Per Kroldrup, Mario Alberto Santana and Alberto Gilardino put the visitors in the driving seat in the first half before the returning Adrian Mutu and a second for Gilardino completed the rout.

Massimo Maccarone's late penalty was barely any consolation for Siena, who are rooted to the bottom of the table. Siena forced an early chance when a third-minute corner fell to Cristiano Del Grosso outside the box, only for his shot to go high and wide. And two minutes later the opening goal was scored by Fiorentina.

Juan Vargas' corner from the right was floated perfectly into the middle of the Siena area for Gilardino to head goalwards. The striker's effort was blocked but fell nicely for defender Kroldrup to tap home at the far post. Siena attempted to bounce back from the early blow, with Michele Paolucci crossing from the right but seeing his ball elude his team-mates rushing in.

In the 26th minute, Maccarone's cross from the left found Simone Vergassola, whose header flew narrowly wide. Clinical Fiorentina stunned the hosts once more two minutes before the half-hour mark when Mutu, on his return from injury, centred from the left flank. Kroldrup met the ball with a header, which led to Santana nodding home La Viola's second goal from close range.

The blow seemed to take any remaining wind out of Siena's sails and in the 36th minute Cesare Prandelli's side made it 3-0. Gilardino found himself in space with only Siena goalkeeper Gianluca Curci to beat but saw his effort saved. The rebound fell for Mutu, who forced another miraculous save from Curci, only for Gilardino to finally hammer home past the despairing shot-stopper.

Siena tried to make a fist of it early in the second half but were hit on the counter as Mutu fed Ricardo Montolivo before Curci saved from the playmaker.

Vargas' 58th-minute corner was headed goalwards by Montolivo, with Curci producing a lightning-quick save with his right foot, but less than 10 minutes later the score was 4-0.

Gianluca Comotto crossed from the right flank but only managed to direct the ball to the periphery of the home side's area. However, Gilardino powered his header from nearly 20 yards to beat Curci and heap further misery on the home support.

Mutu tried his luck from distance in the 77th minute, with Curci saving well, but the Romanian did get his goal with 10 minutes left on the clock, tapping home from close range after Curci had saved Gilardino's lob.

Four minutes later, Siena pulled one back through Maccarone's penalty, awarded when Kroldrup injudiciously fouled Emanuele Calaio. A second consolation nearly came when Goncalo Brandao's left-footed shot from 25 yards skimmed the right-hand post.

Official: Fiorentina sign Ljajic

Fiorentina have formally announced the transfer of Partizan Belgrade wide man Adem Ljajic, dubbed ‘Little Kaka.’ The club released a statement on its official website this afternoon confirming the deal had been struck for the 18-year-old, pending a medical.

It is believed that the cost of the operation is around £6.5m and Ljajic is considered one of the hottest young talents on the international football scene. The Serb had a deal in place to join Manchester United, but the Old Trafford side suddenly pulled out of the £9m deal due to work permit issues in December.

"We made a tentative approach to get a work permit and the word we got back from the Home Office was that we couldn't get that through in time to get Adem signed in January," said assistant manager Mike Phelan.

Adrian Mutu's Agent Issues Fiorentina With Extension Ultimatum

Mutu's Viola future is up in the air...

There are mixed messages surrounding Adrian Mutu's Fiorentina future as his agent issues the club with an extension option or face the prospect of losing him, just 24 hours after the striker had assured that he wanted to remain in Tuscany.

Mutu has been linked with Premiershit side Manchester City and Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk, but on Friday he sidestepped those questions, claiming he had plans to remain with Fiorentina, and then end his career with Dinamo Bucarest.

But his Fiorentina future is not closed to debate. It seems complications over a new deal have arisen in relation to the player's wage demands. His agent has now issued an ultimatum: pay Mutu big money or he walks.

"I have been in Milan speaking with Pantaleo Corvino. If Fiorentina want to keep Mutu then they have to give him an important contract," agent Giovanni Becali told Lady Radio.

"If you have a phenomenon in your team then you have to pay him for his work. There needs to be a two or three year deal with high wages. I think €3.5 million will avoid any type of speculation."
