Inter Can Reach Barcelona's Level By The End Of The Season - Sandro Mazzola
Former Inter players Sandro Mazzola and Evaristo Beccalossi are optimistic about the outcome of the team's season after the Champions League match against Barcelona.

Most of the comments on Inter's performance in Wednesday's Champions League clash against European champions Barcelona have been negative, with many foreseeing a bleak future for the Nerazzurri's European ambitions.

However, two former Inter legends, Sandro Mazzola and Evaristo Beccalossi, gave a more optimistic perspective on things in an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Let's not forget that [Jose] Mourinho was without [Esteban] Cambiasso and [Dejan] Stankovic wasn't entirely fit," said Mazzola. "With those two at their best, we can play on the same level as them both at Camp Nou and, who knows, at the Bernabeu.

"At the moment Barca are the best team in the world, but Inter were better than them for 15 minutes of the first half. I think Mou is right when he says patience is needed, because there are many new players, there are still works in progress at the Pinetina. There is a concrete possibility of reaching Barca's level from now until May."

Meanwhile, Beccalossi said, "We saw the confirmation that Inter's squad is not inferior to that of the European champions, which I think is an important thing to note. We are a team that, like Real Madrid, is still building, while the Blaugrana are a team where every player knows one another. However, now Mourinho has the time to take Inter to that level."

Inter and Barcelona will meet again at Camp Nou on November 24 on the fifth matchday of the Champions League.

So now we've got Cagliari in our first game away from home (funny how we've played our first 3 games at home and "away" against Milan which still means 4 games at the San Siro). At about the 80 min mark, we looked like we'd been run off our feet so I expect some changes in the team although Mou doesn't really use squad rotation as much as other managers.

The backline should be the same but if Cambiasso is ready to go, I expect him to play as well as Stankovic. I reckon Balotelli should get a start and we might even see Arnautovic if he's finally fit. We've also got Vieira who we can use against the smaller clubs if need be.

Mou is on fire today in the press conference! I've only just heard the first part of his interview and he's already attacked Juve, media, LEGA Calcio & Zaccheroni. This part of the interview is extremely hilarious...

One of the worst performances I have ever seen. We had no tactical organization and we looked like a completely different team to the one which played against Barca. What disappointed me more that than the organization was that no one had the motivation even when we were trailing the game at 1-0. What got us through was Milito's precision in front of goal and a stupid error from Caligari's defence.

I hope to see a completely different mentality against Napoli in midweek. Samuel is so crucial for us, hope to see him back on Wednesday. Good to see Cambiasso get some minutes.

To be fair, Cagliari didn't have to play Barca midweek. These are the weeks when most of all you want to play one of the other teams involved in European competition.

Just when Cambiasso returns Motta is out for a month. How long do we have to wait to see our best 4 midfielders on the pitch at the same time.

Motta out for a month

Inter received some ugly news this morning when the club doctor revealed Thiago Motta would be out for a month.

Inter's chief medic Franco Combi has informed Jose Mourinho that Motta has ruptured a muscle in the back of his right thigh.

The Brazilian will start therapy in the next few days with a view to returning to first team action in mid to late October.

Mourinho will be particularly concerned as Motta performs a crucial role in the midfield and has Champions League experience.

He has started his Inter career a little slowly, but showed signs, especially against Milan, that he is worth the money Inter spent on him earlier this summer.

Motta will miss Inter's trip to Rubin Kazan next week and could also be out when Dinamo Kiev travel to San Siro on October 20.
