Perhaps pre-Aquilani I would have jumped at the chance, but to be fair to la Bestia, he did make some critical contributions to the side at times last season and I'd like him around for another to properly assess his value. Although most players have a price, I don't think 8m is really enough in this case.

Jamil, the questions now seem to be how much our management is prepared to offer for Negredo if the loan deal is dead, or if indeed they are even willing to do that.

We read yesterday that unless Baptista is sold then we can't afford to go for Negredo, given that the Aquilani money or at least the lion's share of it is apparently intended for balancing the books only. We also yesterday saw Hull City place A £12mil bid for Negredo and though he says he'd prefer to come to us, Madrid, Negredo's agent, or both have been recently talking about a straight sale...and that we'd better get the finger out if we're going to do business.

To rub salt in the wound, if we lose Negredo, we are now linked with some Polish dude I'd never even heard of until yesterday. He'd be free but he's hardly a prolific scorer...

Former Pacos de Ferreira left-back Antunes looks set for a change of scenery after an unhappy two-year spell in Italy. The left-back is not part of Roma’s plans for the upcoming season.

Antunes earned himself a big-money move to Roma in August 2007 following a highly impressive season for Pacos de Ferreira. Indeed, the rugged defender made such an impression that a host of clubs including Benfica, Sporting, Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa were reported to be chasing his signature, before he opted for a move to Serie A.

However, despite a bright start to his career at Roma, Antunes was rarely selected in the first team, and last season he was loaned out to Lecce. Now Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has decided not to integrate Antunes into the squad for this season. The Italian press has suggested a move to Greece or a return to the Liga Sagres is the most likely next move for the 23-year-old, who has won three caps for Portugal’s national team.


This Portuguese site quite accurate for news. But in this case I hope they're wrong as I think iTunes can become a good player for us.

Interesting little piece from Goal.com on Burdisso...

It could open a possibility or two for us but not, I think with Mancini. It seemed believable that Inter might sell us Burdisso and set up a loan deal with Mancini but if Inter agree to terminate the Burdisso contract and he moves to us on a free transfer I can't imagine Inter giving us Mancini on a loan under those circs...Burdisso's agent has said on tv today that a move to Roma is very possible, but didn't mention under what circumstances.

Fonz, I forgot to post a piece I read on Toni's agent. He made a statement a few days ago along the lines of there being no contact between Roma and himself, therefore no truth in the rumours of a move to us. Apparently we had been speaking to an unofficial representative.

There is truth to those Toni rumors Carlo. But they won't let him go for free. Burdisso has been difficult to deal with. He wants to be assured of a starting position. How can we do that? Well, if Juan plays his usual 10 games, then he could start along side Mexes I suppose.

Oh yes, Gio, I know there's been talk between Toni and us. His "real" agent is obviously letting us all know it has to come through him. But time is getting shorter...

I'm sorry we have lost out on Negredo. It would seem that despite differing stories, Sevilla have got him. I'm interested to see just what difference if any, a termination of Burdisso's contract by Inter could have on our mercato.
