To be honest, at their peak I would pick Deco over Sneijder for our game. I mean we havent been able to control the tempo of the game for ages and Deco would be more suitable for that kind of game. But at their current age, it's impossible not to think of Sneijder being much better. I think Mou thought that Deco could be getting here for free/cheap, therefore he did set his eyes on him, since that spot could be taken in future years by Coutinho. But since Chelsea would rather give a player to Man U rather than Mourinho, we had to remain stranded. I beleive that had we known this from the very beginning, we would have made a move for Diego too.
Maro, maybe you've seen VDV play more than I did, but from the few occasions I've seen him play, he seems to have a very direct approach at goal, rather than being a link between midfield & attack, therefore I beleive he is not suitable for our needs, whereas Sneijder is much more of a complimentary player to play between the midfield & attack line to feed our strikers when they attack the spaces. His adaptability to play as a wide option in a 4-3-3 or trequartista in the rombo formation is probably the cherry on the cake. But I might be mistaken, since I havent seen both of them play that frequently..

Yeah, it's interesting, Lomba. After those couple of years when he fell away in Holland he seemed to have been reinvented as more of a second forward at Hamburg. When he was younger, he was deemed very much in the Sneijder style - a left-sided/central attacking midfielder and a busy, technically gifted, creative player who stitched things together and made things happen. It's probably true that he runs with the ball more than Sneijder and his natural tempo is much higher than Deco's, but I think in a way he wouldn't be all that different from Hleb, say. Four or five years ago I think everyone would have agreed that he was a natural trequartista and a very talented one, though he's certainly not a languid player. He probably needs to go back to another 'second-tier' side at this stage (like Roma, say) where he can be just about guaranteed a starting spot whereas at Inter he'd struggle, I think, if he didn't start well, but he'd be an interesting gamble. He'd fit your 4-3-3 better than Sneijder in my opinion, but your rombo less well.

We go into the season with the diamond midfield as our first choice formation and the 4-3-3 as a back up option. Quaresma and Mancini weren't even on the bench for the Super Cup match and we also want to get rid of Mancini which I think clearly shows what Mourinho has in mind. And as you said Mou wants both Eto'o and Milito to play centrally rather than Eto'o as a wide player.

I don't think Quaresma has the defensive discipline to play in that role. He can fill in when needed or play against smaller teams.

Mou has said it enough number of times now but everything seems to quite on the transfer front. Moratti has not said a word nor has Branca or Oriali. There are reports on Italian papers daily but there have been no quotes to add some amount of truth to those reports.

Reports: Inter £17.5m Sneijder bid

Inter are closing in on a deal for Real Madrid’s Wesley Sneijder worth £17.5m, according to the latest reports.

Jose Mourinho is continuing to demand a trequartista, especially after Esteban Cambiasso’s knee ligament surgery could force Dejan Stankovic back into a deeper midfield role.

It is reported on Mediaset that today’s transfer summit between President Massimo Moratti and technical director Marco Branca decided on a strategy to get Sneijder.

Inter are offering a total of £17.5m for the Dutch international, but £7m is to be handed over immediately and the remaining sum in two payments during 2010.

Sneijder is given a four-year contract worth £3.5m per season, including bonuses.

The player recently stated he wanted to remain at Real and fight for his place, but with the influx of new faces he is unlikely to get much playing time.

Meanwhile, Cambiasso underwent keyhole surgery today after suffering ligament damage to his knee during the Trofeo TIM game with Juventus.

It is believed the Argentine will be out of action for around six weeks.

Roma's Julio Baptista Wanted By Inter & Premiershit Sides – Report

'The Beast' is a wanted man, but not necessarily at Trigoria...

With Roma eager to offload another player to provide funds for squad reinforcement, clubs are beginning to register an interest in Julio Baptista.

The former Real Madrid forward signed for the Giallorossi last summer in a €9 million deal, but he could be on the move again, just 12 months into a four-year contract.

Jose Mourinho's Inter have been searching for a trequartista throughout the summer, and La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Nerazzurri are interested in 'the Beast'.

The pink paper is suggesting that there could be an exchange of loan deals, with former Giallorossi winger Amantino Mancini and Portuguese flop Ricardo Quaresma moving in the opposite direction. Nicolas Burdisso, long wanted by Roma coach Luciano Spalletti, is also an option.

However, Inter may find yet another route blocked as Roma are more inclined to sell for hard cash rather than take on the Beneamata's deadwood in exchange.

With this in mind, La Gazzetta dello Sport is also claiming that a number of clubs from the Premiershit have registered their interest in the 27-year-old. Baptista, formerly of Arsenal, has previously been considered a target for Manchester City.
