Inter Boss Jose Mourinho Reiterates Need For A Playmaker

'The Special One' wants to add some more creativity to the Nerazzurri attack...

Inter coach Jose Mourinho has never hidden his desire to strengthen his squad in order to compete with Europe's elite. The Nerazzurri have already brought in Samuel Eto'o, Diego Milito, Thiago Motta and Lucio this summer, but the Scudetto winning tactician claims he needs one more piece to complete the puzzle.

"I want a playmaker, a player who creates and that can build the play. We need it," he said at a press conference, according to the Corriere dello Sport.

"[Dejan] Stankovic did it last year, but that is not his role."

When asked about the possibility of his former pupil, Deco, arriving, the 46-year-old dismissed the possibility.

"It's difficult for a player from Chelsea to come here," he shrugged. "Why? Every time I am interested in a player it is always difficult. In the summer, Deco was free to leave, but when Inter approached, his fee increased from nothing to €5 million."

The ex-Blues tactician also commented on new signing Marko Arnautovic, who is still recovering from a stress fracture to his right foot.

"Arnautovic? He is not training with the the squad. At this moment he cannot give anything to the team. I don't think of him as a player of mine, but of the medical staff," Mourinho stated.

Inter face Lazio in the Supercoppa Italiana on Sunday.

New Inter Signing Marko Arnautovic Keen To Prove His Worth

The Austrian international is delighted with his move to Italy...

Marko Arnautovic is eager for his Italian adventure with Inter to begin, believing that he can break into the Nerazzurri first team imminently.

After months of speculation, the Italian powerhouse finally announced the capture of the young forward from Twente on Thursday morning.

The Austrian international has made it clear that he's quite happy that the deal is finally completed, adding that he's keen to fight for a spot in the starting XI.

"Everything went really quick all of a sudden," said Arnautovic to the Austrian press. "They asked me to leave the training pitch in order to join my agent in the office. They offered me a contract and I immediately signed it. I can hardly believe that I've actually signed for such a big club.

"It took a while before the transfer was a done deal, but Inter really want to be certain that my injury will not be a problem. I'll return to regular training sessions in about two weeks.

"I'm keen to prove my worth for the club as soon as possible. I'll fight for a spot in the starting XI with Samuel Eto'o and Diego Milito. I think I'm up for the challenge though."

Mourinho Complains Of Chelsea Inflation

BEIJING (Reuters) - Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho believes his former club Chelsea are making it difficult for him to sign Deco and Ricardo Carvalho.

Mourinho said on Thursday attempts to bring playmaker Deco and defender Carvalho foundered when the London club ramped up the price after discovering his interest.

"To be fair about Deco, I feel it's very difficult for a Chelsea player to come to me," the Portuguese told a news conference ahead of Saturday's Italian Super Cup against Lazio at the Olympic Bird's Nest stadium.

"Every time I'm interested in one of their players, it looks quite different. In the summer we were told he was almost free to come. Two weeks later, when they know Inter are interested, it goes zero to five (million) and for Carvalho from five to 15 (million). Something like that."

Mourinho also said Inter had heard nothing from Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur about midfielder Patrick Vieira, who has been linked with a move back to former club Arsenal or their North London rivals.

"If they want him, they have to let us know. I have to say until this moment, no Tottenham, no Arsenal. They have not contacted us," he said, adding that the Frenchman would be on the bench for Saturday's match and remained "an option" for Inter.

Deco and Carvalho were both part of the Porto team Mourinho guided to Champions League victory in 2004.

Carvalho was one of Mourinho's first signings following his subsequent move to Chelsea, while Deco joined the London club in 2008 after a successful spell at Barcelona.

Mourinho, who has brought in four new players since the end of last season, said he would still like to add a playmaker to his side, even if it was not Deco.

"We want a playmaker, yes," he added. "It's a position for a long time we think we needed. (Dejan) Stankovic did a great job for us last season (but) it's not his best position for the team.

"We are looking for a player. Who? I don't know. I'm more about the structure, I leave names for the club structure."

I agree guys, sure we didn't win but this is the start of what is practically a new team. Once the newbies start to gel, and once we get our trequartista (I still think Deco is going to be announced shortly) the team is going to play its best football in years.
Ofcourse Deco will be our temp next season as he will be the benchie for our true trequartista.

Exactly my thoughts Lomba. I don't want to exaggerate but I thought we were brilliant in the first 15 minutes of the second half, after which they scored and we got tired. I am really happy with the performance, I think we will see Inter play some good football this season especially if they keep up this passing game.

In the first half we were too narrow on the pitch, all the midfielders drifted to the center and Stankovic playing as a trequartista played really deep. Mou set them right in the second half and suddenly there was so much space for us to move.

However, this game again stressed the need for a pure playmaker especially the first half. We kept passing but we never moved forward and kept passing back to our defenders and Eto'o or Milito had to drop deep to get the ball. I also think we should keep Vieria, I mean we have only got the four midfielders who played today and if anyone is injured we have only got Khrin and Obi. I don't mind giving them a chance in the league but CL,no.

I was surprised Quaresma wasn't even on the bench. So, there is no chance for Mancini. We should get rid of him,Rivas,Obinna and Burdisso.

BEIJING - Jose Mourinho analysed Inter's Super Cup performance in a flash interview with Rai Sport after giving his runners-up medal to a fan who had travelled all the way from Italy to watch the Nerazzurri in action in China.

He said: "Lazio have the joy of the victory and we have the tranquillity of having a team and a future. I am very satisfied with the performance of my players and our new way of playing, but I am obviously not happy about the result because everyone saw that it could have ended differently, like 3-1 for us. We had 12 or 14 scoring chances before they took the lead.

"They stayed in defence and luck was on their side, and then they started playing in the final minutes. Even the crowd didn't like it, but this is football. All my players gave their all and I repeat, I am satisfied with having a team and a future."

In the post-match press conference, Mourinho added: "I told my players one thing: we have a team. There was a team that played and a team that won. One team created 14 scoring chances and the other won with luck and with three shots on goal. If Lazio continue having this luck they can also try for the Scudetto...

"I am satisfied and optimistic, I believe that our team played a different kind of football and with great quality. We were fantastic tonight. I don't remember seeing Inter play with this quality. Maybe against Roma last season, maybe against Juve, and maybe in bits of matches, but tonight, in difficult conditions, we certainly played a great game with quality football.

"Lazio's best players? The goalkeeper and the doctor who did very well in the final minutes... If I were the referee this is the only thing I would have underlined with a decision, that of giving at least ten minutes of added time... Anyway, it went like this and Lazio won. We have to continue on this track, we are convinced. There's still something missing: condition, our play in cetain situations, but with four new players on the pitch it went better than expected. It could have gone better in terms of the result, but I am optimistic."

On Samuel Eto'o's first goal for Inter, Mourinho commented: "He's very good, and behind him the whole team did well. He's a fantastic player, he's still not at his best, but he played until the end - more than expected - because he has quality and spirit."

Inter Left A Good Impression On Me, Too Bad About Result - Moratti

Following Inter's 2-1 defeat to Lazio in the Italian Supercup final in Beijing, Inter president Massimo Moratti was obviously disappointed with the result, but felt that the team played a good match.

"The impression is very good, I saw good football and also the new arrivals all did well, even [David] Suazo, who I hadn't seen in a year," he said to Sky Sport.

"Looking at the future, I am optimistic, but as for today's match I can only say too bad, because I imagined a different result."

On Samuel Eto'o, who scored his first goal in an Inter shirt today, Moratti said he was delighted.

"He's fast and smart, I think we will see some good things from him. Then there are a few players who need to improve, but I was satisfied, it's not easy to assemble all the new players so quickly. I also liked [Diego] Milito, who's always very practical."

Coach Jose Mourinho has been saying that the team still needs a playmaker. On that issue, the president said: "Yes, but it's pointless just to get any playmaker, we're not going to buy someone just to buy. At the moment we have no one in particular in mind.

"We also need to sell a few players, for the good of their careers and their pride, it's better if they find another team."

Asked if he was sad about Zlatan Ibrahimovic's departure, he said, "Everything went in a way that benefited Inter, so I don't see why I should be sad."
