It's unbeleivabke really... Here's a club whose owners have more debt than roma, and there're still able to prise us from a much lived player on our team.

I don't understand why we didn't offer aquilani to Madrid or someone in some sort of a money player deal. Like hubtelaar plus 10 or something.. That would have been our beat shot at securing a good striker, by offering a player in return.

Spqr, in terms of team play and quality, I hardly think we will notice a difference because of aquilani's injuries during the past three years.. However no amount if reinvestment or money will compensate for the sale of what most of us considered an untouchable player

I stand by my post of yesterday. This affair wasn't just Rosella saying either Aquilani or Vučinić would be sacrificed as she did a while back...somebody wanted Aquilani out as soon as the first believable excuse presented itself. Payback time for the way he and his dad dragged out the contract renewal and it doesn't get any conveniently better for our management than the good business aspect of getting top dollar for a player who's in and out of the team too often for comfort...

The reasoning behind Aqui's move is now academic as the act is done. On a personal basis I feel for this young man. I'll repeat I really believe he doesn't realise what he's letting himself in for, going to the kind of city he is and mixing with the kind of people he will be. I only hope someone advises him to get his ass up the A565 to Southport, set himself up with a smart apartment, commute to and from Anfield...and stay the hell out of the 'pool!

There's those who already give him a year like Dossena at most before he moves back home...it wouldn't surprise me, though I'd like to think that being a Romano as he is, Alberto is made of stronger stuff! In saying that though, I'm glad Dossena finally got his move to Napoli.

On another track, what's this latest shit from Fioranelli, promising all but the kingdom of heaven? An attention seeker, a big talker...another Cecchi Gori or Gaucci! A f*ckin' windbag and timewaster!

More positively, at least we know Vuci's surgery went well today (Wednesday) and he is estimated to be back in three weeks...so, yes Tom, not as good news as having him fit to play against Gent as that mistaken link in the Shoutbox yesterday had us believe, but hopefully much better all round in the long term...

Gio, I don't buy the Spalletti theory, though I'm listening. This huge season-long injury pattern did not really develop until last year. 2005-2006 until last season were not specifically too terrible injury-wise. Of course the other thing we have to realise is that we are significantly more shallow depth-wise than other teams and it shows. I'm not sure that the answer is a straight-forward one.

Good post...depressing but what to do??? All is true and it is so hard to support this team at times. We all knew that already but this summer is without a doubt a "though time" like Bruno Conti said about the sale of Alberto.
Depressing and still, we are all more or less the same attached to this club. What is wrong with us I wonder!!!

Vincenzo, let's see just what Huntelaar does for Milan. Remember he originally always wanted either the EPL or la liga, despite all his rhetoric now about Van Basten and his grande Milan! If he makes it big then I'll admit I'm wrong to say I don't think he will...at this point, to me, good though he is he still has to crack Serie A and re-prove himself! Not always easy!

By that same logic Carlo, let's just see what Aqui does at the 'puke. I personally think that Huntelaar will be a great fit up front with Pato at Milan. Dollars to donuts, Huntelaar will be more effective with his club this year than Aquilani will.

Vincenzo my point is that there was no way in hell Roma was going to make a move for Huntelaar or anyone else of that caliber. Everybody knew that of course. The post is not directed at you Vincenz. I think many agreed with the fact that if there was a way to derive maximum benefit from the sale of Alberto then it would ease the pain.

I will blame management and Spalletti. Rosella is a vindictive bitch with probably the worst people skills I've seen for someone in that position. This take it or leave it attitude has alienated a number of players. If Aquilani wanted to leave, perhaps we cannot blame him given the ownership and the inflexibility of the coach. But certainly it had to be a difficult decision. Spalletti of course, does not give a shit and neither does Rosella.

I think most of us would agree that if there's a way to derive minimum benefit from the sale of Alberto then Rosella will stumble across it. I suspect one might also put Populusque's point this way: were Alberto a prima punta rather than a midfielder, with the same mix of promise and injuries, then I imagine the club would have been rather more inclined (and better placed) to take another punt on him this season.

Gio, yeah and seeing as Negredo's agent is babbling on now about a €15mil straight sale, no loan deal, I suppose we won't get him either, let alone someone like Huntelaar! If that's true re/Negredo's agent and not just media gossip.

Vincenzo, I think many of us would like to see Aquilani recover his form in England but get back home ASAP...I'd have a hell of a lot more faith in that idea if he'd gone to a London club though!
