Italy finds 4,500-year old skeleton of warrior

A roughly 4,500 year-old skeleton of a man, probably a warrior killed by an arrow to the chest, has been discovered on a beach south of Rome, Italian police said. Skip related content
The well-preserved skeleton, dubbed "Nello," was found during a routine flyover around areas of archaeological interest in May that prompted police to probe a fissure in the ground.

"We thought it was that of a Roman solider, but then the experts identified it as dating back to the third millennium B.C.," said Raffaele Mancino, an official with the police division overseeing Italy's cultural heritage.

Six small vases were found buried alongside the skeleton, whose feet are missing. The young man probably lived just within a few hundred years of "Otzi," the prehistoric iceman whose corpse was found frozen in the Italian Alps in 1991.

Archaeologists said they plan further excavations since the discovery could be a tip-off to a broader necropolis in the area.

Tommaso, thanks for that piece from il principe, the best regista of his time in Italy! While I said, if it was a backs to the wall thing, I'd rather lose Aqui than Vuci, I added I didn't want to see either go. Hell, it's not so long ago we regarded Aquilani as intoccabile...untouchable which he was. It's now the third (?) season in recent times we've been vitually required to let one of our stars go to raise cash...

I wonder if Aquilani knows what kind of a city he's going to, if he indeed does? Highest crime rate in Britain, courts obliged to impose fines as the prisons are full. Fines not paid because half the b*stards are flybynights who can't be found...nice! Forget the glamour of the early to mid 1960's, that's all of simpler times when the people may have been hard but at least they were fair...

As for Negredo coming to us...a year's loan with the option to then buy him? He's young, he's just off a successful loan season in a competetive league. OK, so 6 of his 19 strikes were penalties but what the hell, he can obviously take them! I'm not against this one! What's the worst that could happen if the deal doesn't work out? We're not paying any fortunes for him at this point. As an afterthought, what might Madrid ask for him after his year with us is done if we want to buy?

I'm praying that the Aquilani deal, if there actually is one, falls through. Unlike some, I really don't care if the move is logical. Give him another shot. I mean really, are we going to be that much better off with him gone? What're we going to do with that money? Sign another Madrid reject? If they can prove to me that the team will sign a good player, then I might understand, but I still won't be okay with this. And we all know they can't bring in a very good player. They couldn't pull it off last year when they had the money, and they can't do it this year when the money isn't there.

On a related note, where have the romans been in all of this. I haven't heard much, if anything, about them protesting this sale. I guess they're probably still too busy protesting against Rosella.

Pauly, since when has rationality had anything to do with being a Romanista? Rationally you shouldn't even be supporting the side at all since, rationally, they're not likely to win many more than three trophies in the next 100 years. If you delight in Vooch and Mexes as somehow having become true Romans then surely Aquilani embodies without qualification all that you value in true Romanitas?
