I'm not all that pushed about making our proposed starting line-up for the new season at the moment with all this talk of player 'sacrifices' and not knowing what whey Roma's mercato will go. We could end up selling half of our team.

It still looks like we are still going to proceed with the idea of selling one of our 'big' players, and it looks like it could well be Aquilani, if Madrid do sign Alonso. According to the , we have told Alberto to be prepared for a transfer and a move to Liverfekkin'wankscum, and that officials from that vile excuse for a club have even flown to Rome to begin talks.

This is, obviously, terrible news. However, I was thinking about who would be worse to lose, Alberto or Mirko, and putting my obvious favouritism which some may of picked up upon in the past aside, I think it would be fair to say that Mirko is the more invaluable. Alberto doesn't even make it into the proposed starting line-ups of many of us here, while Mirko is already a crucial part of our attack and would be very difficult to replace. So the harsh reality is if one had to go I think Aquilani is the more expendable, and thats a sad situation which this management has somehow landed us in. What makes it even more difficult is that he is a romanista (yes, thats born and bred in Rome, Jamil, just to clarify) and a proud graduate of our primevera system, and the fact that he will be leaving us to join Liverfekkin'wankscum makes it all that much harder to take, like having a permanent taste of vile in your throat which you just can't dispense.

Its all very well blaming Rosella for being in this situation were we have to 'sacrifice' a player for our mercato, but I'd like to know where Luciano Spalletti and Bruno Conti stand in all this. How can Spalletti, who came close to leaving us in the summer, continue in a situation where the club insists on selling a big player every summer to create funds for new players? It was said that one of the conditions of his staying was that he would take a more active role in all our mercato dealings, so are we to presume that he is ok with selling Aqulani/Vucinic? Why doesn't he do what most if not all of us here have been screaming and not sell any big name players and cope as we our, relying on our youth to fill the voids of positions which he believes we need strengthening?

Conti has said that someone may have to be sold and we will evaluate all offers, but how can he stand by and watch us sell Aquilani and be alright with it? Does he agree with this policy of having to sell in order to buy, even if what is being sold is better than what comes in? I just don't know how this fucking club works, we're a complete mess.

I could deal with Chivu leaving. Selling Mancini was actually brilliant business on Roma's part seeing how he has turned out. But if this is true it's just unacceptable. I know he has been injured alot but Jesus he's part of the Roman Trinity as Chris calls them - Totti, De Rossi and Aquilani. I thought the bank was forcing Rosella to sell, I thought a manager was being appointed to manage the sale. WHAT THE FUCK is going on?!

How things can change within 12 months...

This time last year the thought of Aquilani leaving and Totti being asked to retire would have been unthinkable amongst most of our forum regulars...I've got a wry smile on my face though neither of the above points are funny!

Gio, on the subject of our gallant Capitan' Francesco, I remember making the same suggestion just over two years ago, then again the Christmas before last, and finally here on Serie A a few months ago. I based my thoughts on the facts that first and foremost, Totti will never last more than three more seasons from the time of my 1'st writing, April 2007, in top flight football. His age, lack of pace, and being more injury prone are now all against him. Yes, most certainly we need to look to life beyond Totti, that's to say if we are to compete at top level. If on the other hand we are to be reduced to being at best no more than Europa League standard because of a financially impoverished ownership then he's fine, playing on for as long as he chooses...if you get my point!

What would Totti do if he hung his boots up?

Probably thanks to Ilaria's contacts, I remember he started making a number of tv appearances, progressing from cellphone ads with Rino Gattuso to a number of more involved and elaborate affairs involving dialogue which went on for quite some time though I have noticed they seem to have stopped. Let's face it, even we heterosexual males can't help but see Totti is a good looking man and the females amongst Italian tv viewers seem to love him. Hell, he's got a movie career waiting for him if he wants it, at very least plenty of television.

He can avoid the embarrassment of the media saying he can't cut it any more with no loss of face at all...if he makes this coming season his last. Maybe he actually intends just that, saying his goodbye by playing a part at the World Cup despite his past statements of denial!

As for Aquilani...

I hope he stays and I hope this season he shrugs off his injury hoodoo! It's worth remembering just what the lad is capable of and how the thought of losing him was not so long ago, as I said above, unthinkable to most giallorossi! A number of guys here will possibly remember Nou Mestella from XFF and that I've mentioned before, a debate I had with him, nearly two years ago re/Alberto being a liability to us. I said it to Nubil and I'll say again I hope Aquilani proves all his doubters wrong and does it while wearing a Roma shirt...

It seems certain factions of the media however are still persisting with the transfer bit. Heaven help Alberto if he ends up in that hole of a place Rafael BeniÃ‚Âtez apparently wants to bring him to. I'll argue with anyone that if a young Italian footballer wants to make the most of his time spent in the UK he has to stick to the greater London area! Those who didn't have regretted it, with one possible exception...

Finally, I wouldn't want to do either, but if I had to choose between selling off Aquilani or Vučinić then it has to be Aquilani.

Steve, we should also be grateful we can recall all those loan players to boost our squad. Some of them are going to meet expectations...I worry that Rosella will sell them off just as soon as their value rises though!

btw, I thought my above comment on Totti was worth one of your quips!

Listen.. we will NOT sign Huntelaar or any other worthwhile player if we sell either or both of Vucinic and Aqulani. We will sign Huntelaar or Sheva on a loan basis, which is obviously almost free, and that will be our big signing and the bitch will poicket the rest for the fucking club. Some of you guys should stop fantasizing about who we will buy with the moola we will get by getting rid of our present and future
