Milan zoom in on Zhirkov

Milan are turning towards CSKA Moscow star Yuri Zhirkov for the left flank, but face competition from Chelsea. The Rossoneri had secured Aly Cissokho for that role, but the move collapsed after the Porto man failed a medical. It is now reported that the new target is Russian international Zhirkov, who is tactically versatile for his ability to play left-back or on the left side of midfield. He turns 26 next month and has also been linked with former Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea.

Zhirkov was among the 30 nominees for the Ballon dÃ¢â‚¬â„¢Or in 2008 and named in the Euro 2008 Team of the Tournament. It is claimed Zhirkov would like a move to Serie A, while his Ã‚Â£10m price-tag is roughly what the Diavolo wouldÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ve paid for Cissokho.

There is also news for Cissokho, as his failed medical due to a teeth problem has not been enough to shake off interest from other clubs. French newspaper LÃ¢â‚¬â„¢Equipe claims the Porto starlet is the focus of a tug-of-war between Olympique Lyonnais and Inter.
