lol I can't believe I've heard that argument before. They make it harder to buy their shit because they really don't outsiders to buy it.

Jam, I have to agree with you on the whole Mexes/Vuci being Roman argument. Lets not forget that people were saying the same shit about Chivu before he left. As for Mexes, I think him being loyal to this team has a lot to do with the way he came to this team. Roma took a huge hit during that mess, and he probably feels like he owed us something because of that.

Tuna, I wouldn't go that far about Mexes. We just don't know. I was simply using him as an example for my argument more than anything.

This is a slightly diriculous argument, since in fact, 'moldy, at the base of it you and Pauly are on the same side - that a player might be able to earn his stripes as some kind of pseudo-naturalised Roman is surely, so your argument runs, evidence that a non-Roman owner might be similarly 'naturalised' through commitment to the club over a stretch of years. Of course Vooch and Mexes aren't Roman, but that doesn't stop them representing the club with pride and loyalty and passion, etc. etc. But then Pauly, I think, shares your attitude to foreign ownership.

Galloppa is an ordinary player who will never be much more than a battling midfielder for a club at about Siena's level. Palermo is worse. Chiellini isn't a youth-product and wasn't, as it were, 'let go'. Amelia's just about a half-valid instance, but it's worth noting that at the time the two 'keepers who were ahead of him were themselves both Italian; still, I think Doni's better than Amelia and Curci but I agree, I'd rather have Curci between the sticks for us. D'Agostino was never going to get a run under Capello because he was never going to play him through the middle (because he didn't play with any kind of regista (though, of course, that wasn't Gaetano's thing then) and he had a couple of rather good options as trequartisti ahead of him. Bovo will never be quite good enough, but again I think is a valid instance because he was let go because the club was too tight to hang on to him. Our finances meant we weren't prepared to take a punt on him when it came to the busta with Palermo. The only thing we know about Rosi is from an uncorroborated comment from the Livorno president.

This side, I say, struggles to finish in the top eight next season: Curci, Motta, Mexes, Andreolli, Rosi, De Rossi, Aquilani, Brighi, Cerci, Okaka, Totti.

So, in short, we support a shit club that has failed to a) win; b) properly market itself and grow revenues through ticket sales, merchandising, and television rights; and c) properly focus on long-timeframe youth development to engender future athletic success and/or higher sales prices further down the road. Further, the club is burdened by its highly levered (and struggling) parent company controlled by a headless family. On the bright side, it's still Roman and Roman owned.
