Pauly, I've heard 'em all, the stories over the years about who is involved and who certain people want one to assume is involved. We all know how Italy works and sometimes an assumption can be discouragement enough.

In my above post I was generalising rather than confining my thoughts to any one particular case. It's an interesting fact of life, don't you think, that sometimes presence alone is enough to convince others to...see your point of view?

pocari, three things are possible here.

A) Getting Sheva gratis and on an affordable salary.

B) Doing business with Madrid.

C) Losing Juan whom they want, on the altar of bringing Huntelaar to Trigoria...

i see where you're coming from Italiamia and ive always gunned for us keeping our youth. even if the youth isnt ours, initially id hope we keep Andreolli and alot of our Roman youth to come. in all seriousness, our future looks more Roman than ever with the amount of decent youth players coming through but under our current management (again!!) we ending up taking the Ajax approach. our entire squad is likely to become alot more Italian (Roman even), if we just had the time to nurture our youth. do us all a favour and bring the riots to Rosella, her presence affects us in all point possible

Pauly & Pocari, Sheva could most probably do us a service and may indeed have to, depending on our finances.

I've always said I can't see Huntelaar in Italy as he seems more naturally drawn to Spain or England...but his circumstances are now changing. He and Wesley Schneider to Roma? We should be so lucky! Toni...he's starting to remind me of John Carew! Then again, maybe big Luca just needs to come home!

Gio, of course we need to get back to basics but between Bosman, the Champions League, and the mega rich, a monster has been created that will take years to even tame, let alone kill! After the Nth. Ireland game, Lippi made a big thing of the fact that true Italian football still exists amongst our more modest clubs. He left unsaid they are compelled by accident or design to buy mainly Italian players and also utilise their youth products.

I too badly miss the times when because of the limitation on foreigners we saw a strong presence of Italian clubs in Europe and a strong Nazionale!

As things stand, we now depend on the likes of Platini to try to impliment the rule of at least five home grown players per club. Hopefully it will happen but in the meantime, let's suppose we get our salvatore della patria in Trigoria this summer and he buys us a team which though largely foreign, starts winning big. Makes things very difficult for guys like you and I to plead our case...

Carlo, we had quite the Nazionale three years ago. I wouldn't worry about it too much, it goes in cycles. But you do make a good point that calcio is truly played amongst the middling clubs. Hopefully we don't fall to that.

Indeed, Steve! Statistics tell us we are fourth of importance in Italy and the fifth best supported team...we don't want to slip back!

Yes, our Mondiale 2006 squad was as you say, quite the side and I won't bug you with my praises of Azzurri sides of the past which had the benefit of being able to draw players from all our top clubs...

Hopefully, our Roma can always retain an Italian majority.

Is anyone in Italy willing to do that unless forced to (lack of finances/injury)? Not just Riise's quote but other's I have read that pretty much say that managers in Italy would rather veteran players play out of position rather than give a shot to young players... It could be cultural thing too

BREAKING NEWS: the club may or may not be sold, we should or shouldn't find out by a deadline set two or three days after the day the rumour starts, but it may or may not be cancelled due to a prior engagement of Rosella's nail appointment, the day of which she can't confirm at this time, and which may or may not take place at all.
